For multiSIM, you have to designate one of the SIMs as the primary so calls will be forwarded there. The designation is pretty much on-the-fly with just a few key presses.

Reporting back here for the benefit of everyone. I have just replaced the physical SIM card this morning with eSIM and kept all my other 3 existing multiSIMs. The Maxis representative who helped me with my request said I'm allowed the maximum of 5 multiSIMs, unchanged from what was previously known. Upon activation of eSIM, only the primary multiSIM on my phone got deactivated. The Maxis center I went to was Menara Maxis in KLCC. Hope this helps.

i just changed to esim. just sharing my experience here.

So, I walk in the a maxis center two week ago, it took like 10mins.,then i walk out with the esim on my iphone xs max.

Few days after i changed i realize the hotspot is not working on esim. Then i come across this tread. putting back in the physical sim doesn't work for me (i dont know if i am doing it correctly, but the physical sim just not showing any reception anymore)

i called 100 twice, one guy ask me to wait but the call got put off, another one ask me to reset network setting which doesn't work.

So i went back to maxis center in Gardens. A guy spent like 15 mins god knows what he pressed on my phone and made it works. i tried ask him, he wasn't willing to share, just say you use vpn before and it will get block for hotspot, but i never did.
(note: he never put physical sim card in or whatever, just pressing my phone)

i travel a lot in asean, so i change sim frequently. right after my first trip, i realize my hotspot not working again after i remove the physical sim.

so i try google again. with the keyword vpn but got nothing. I remember the guy didn't actually do anything material, he was trial and erroring, like on off the mobile data, tweaking the setting here and there. so i decide to try my luck.

then....

i made it works, when i turn ON the roaming, the hotspot works like magic. and you can turn roaming back off. no need physical sim.

not sure if this is helpful for any other user. My takeaway of this story is, the telco cant help us when we have these kind of problem. Even in apple forum people have same problems, and the suggest solution is put in physical sim... there are too many phones too many customer out there.

Heard that changing device will require us to visit Maxis Centre to get a new QR Code for esim?

Anybody can verify?

Cannot use back old QR Code?

As am planning to switch to new iPhone 11 Pro from XS Max.

Thanks.

i have same question too!

I rang maxis CS, they told me one QR code is for one device only. You can reuse the QR code but must be same device.

Well.. sometime i don't 100% believe what CS said. Any other users can give us advise maybe?

I've read somewhere that you could try removing the data plan, then wait anything from 5 mins to 24 hours and re-add again.

This is for overseas telcos.

However, I really don't have the luxury to not have cellular access for 24 hours.......

That’s a shame. Sounds funny having to get a new QR code for every device change

If you use your phone to scan the old QR code, it will say that the code is no longer valid.

You need to go to a Maxis Centre and get a new QR code.

Even some Maxis staff seem to be unaware of this. They will insist that you scan the original QR code. I told them that I already did that many times and still failed.

A question on eSIM. We all know iPhone has Quick Start, to automatically set up the new iPhone. Just bring the 2 iPhones close together, and setup is done on the fly.

When i upgrade frm iPhone 11 Pro Max to 13 Pro Max, will the eSIM be ‘transferred’ over to the 13 Pro Max?

Yes, select the cellular plan (eSIM) to transfer over during this process.

Hmmm.. maxis doesn’t support esim transfer. See maxis esim FAQ

For eSIM, any change in device will require a new QR code (SIM replacement treatment). In this case, you may use the dedicated nano-SIM slot available in your mobile device.
