QUOTE(Colada @ May 20 2025, 02:46 PM) I asked them about their higher speed 50RM package, which they said would be compatible with the router. Are they gonna bet their job on such confirmation/ promise/ representation?Better and safer to read the T&Cs at UMobile's website rather than believing what others say, including those working in UMobile store. QUOTE 5G signal is working at my unit which is 20th floor, but the coverage is not stable and sometime drop back to 4G. Yeah, I thought the '8th floor' rule is a bit pessimistic. Anyhow I have an update on progress. Yesterday I went back to the shop where I bought the TP-Link 4G router. They tested it with my Umobile SIM and agreed it isn't compatible. They were very nice and took it back, giving me a credit note for the full amount. I'm satisfied with that cos I plan to buy a new printer soon and will use the credit there. One interesting thing they told me is that the Telco's have a way of 'killing' cracked routers remotely, and that rather than my old router just 'dieing' it may have been 'bricked' by Umobile remotely! Anyone ever heard of this? Anyway they suggested I should go to a nearby mall which sells 'no-brand' 4G routers which might work for me. So I did that, and found a new no-brand router there. The shop tested my Umobile SIM in their router and it worked. I asked what their guarentee on it was if it got bricked or died - they said one for one within 12 months. So I bought it. Got it home and set it up. All works, EXCEPT, weirdly, my TV can't connect to the internet through it. All my other devices hook up no prob. But the TV - it connects to the router, but stubbornly insists 'No Internet'! I'll keep trying. So there you go folks, if you didn't already know it, be careful when buying a 'branded' 4G LTE router to use with a prepaid SIM. |

"Branded" 4G/5G modem routers (like TP-L) if purchased from legit sources are normally no problem, if your SIM's plan has none "restriction-to-use-on-smartphone-only" to start with. |

QUOTE((lurkingaround @ Jan 19 2021, 01:20 PM) . U Mobile will likely often do Deep Packet Inspection on the few subscribers who use the most Internet data per month, especially during non-MCO/PKP period, eg iirc, Maknok has related his experience about kena suspended by U Mobile for using his SIM card inside a modded 4G modem-router to bypass the hotspot limit. Celcos have limited bandwidth, eg U Mobile has only 1.2Gbps for each 3G/4G cell tower, which can only serve a maximum of about 240 active Internet users at any one time = 5Mbps each. Hence celcos have to impose FUP limits on bandwidth hoggers and suspend illegal users, once detected, in order to minimize 4G network congestion, especially during peak hours. In comparison, immobile/fixed Fiber Home Internet has 10Gbps per Fiber cable = limited to about 250Mbps per 40 terrace/link-houses = less chance of network congestion. Hence Fiber ports are limited by TM Unifi. . QUOTE(Colada @ May 21 2025, 01:22 PM) Yeah, I thought the '8th floor' rule is a bit pessimistic. .Anyhow I have an update on progress. QUOTE(petpenyubobo @ May 21 2025, 08:47 PM) Very expensive compared to CD's Kuning 25 plan. Hotlink is by far the most straight forward telco that gives you the freedom to use the data in whatever way you want. Also CD's Kuning 15 plan has no speed limit and can access 5G/4G with same 40GB pool. It has separate 30GB for hotspot access. Avoid telcos which sells their plans claiming to be UNLIMITED but with FUP quota and also insist that you only use the SIM in phones. This is outright a SCAM which MCMC still ignores. Support telcos which honestly sells large fixed quota and allows you to use them in any device regardless of 4G/5G network. I tried the 100GB for rm15 Celcomdigi offer - the hotspot is severely crippled with very low speed and it stalls at times. I felt that it was a bit dishonest for them not to inform beforehand that the data can only be used in phones, not hotspot or modem. Lots of great info with your replies folks, thanks.
QUOTE(svchia78 @ May 20 2025, 04:13 PM) Are they gonna bet their job on such confirmation/ promise/ representation? Svchia78 that's it in writing! Only phones allowed. Thanks for pointing this out and I now see what's going on. This was not pointed out to me by the salesman at Umobile, even though I explained clearly why I was buying the package and how I'd use it (on a router).Better and safer to read the T&Cs at UMobile's website rather than believing what others say, including those working in UMobile store. ![]() Paragraph 6. Support telcos which honestly sells large fixed quota and allows you to use them in any device regardless of 4G/5G network. You are absolutely correct sir. Only they don't 'insist' clearly enough when selling the package! I had no idea I was buying a scam. QUOTE Also CD's Kuning 15 plan has no speed limit and can access 5G/4G with same 40GB pool. It has separate 30GB for hotspot access. But do they forbid use in a router? Chrono-Trigger says it's forbidden by Celcom. I'm scared now that my new no-brand router or Umobile SIM card will soon be blocked. Is Hotlink my best alternative (I'm gonna switch as soon as my current credit with Umobile expires). |

QUOTE(JLA @ May 22 2025, 08:03 AM) This is old CD Unlimited Pelan Biru for those coming from Celcom when merging with DiGi.It retained the old marketing of Celcom because it claims to be UNLIMITED but again misleading with FUP quota. Also the speed is throttled in return for giving you a large quota. The telco should be honest by selling a plan by claiming 200GB quota with 12mbps throttling speed for RM35. *Can be used in any device including modems. It's not understandable why you impose people with a FUP quota and throttle their speed yet you don't want to allow them to use the SIM inside other devices other than the phone?
