QUOTE(fms21 @ Mar 21 2019, 04:56 PM) in reality, they offered 5GB quota for hotspot.. I think their network engineers are not to be underestimated. maybe u need to complaint about unable to do hotspot.. They have firewalls to detect data packets from my innocent 3g router. Definitely its (my router) identifying itself to Umobile as a 3g router and not a smart phone. Its clearly written in their T&C QUOTE Clause #4 https://www.u.com.my/plans/gilerunlimited/gx50#tncFor non-mobile hotspot usage, you can use GX50 via smartphones only and no other devices including MiFi and USB dongle. U Mobile may from time to time change the device requirement for GX50 based on its discretion. Of course i wont be telling umobile's CS that im using a router. They will darn right say - its your fault, you didnt read our T&C. Here is a link on how telcos detect Hotspot. Complex. https://android.stackexchange.com/questions...cl-wifi-hotspot okay fine Umobile - you win this time but not for long when i consider porting out. YOODO seems attractive with their flexible plan. But have to be extra alert with YooDo. This post has been edited by SleeplessEyes: Mar 22 2019, 12:13 AM |

Interested on the GX50 plan, but was wondering how bad/good is the 5mbps speed cap??
i'm at Penang, Bayan lepas , Gelugor area most of the time, anyone can comment on the speed? I would say the only time I needed a lot of data is when i'm using, Youtube, FB (videos) and Spotify streaming (very high setting) Is 5mpbs speed enough for those above? thanks. |

QUOTE(khan @ Mar 22 2019, 10:06 AM) Interested on the GX50 plan, but was wondering how bad/good is the 5mbps speed cap?? Hi. I was in D'Piazza AirBnb apartment for the CNY and i find the speed quite respectable. Not extremely fast but not slow eeither . Was using Youtube btw. Which is more stress-test compare to Spotify.i'm at Penang, Bayan lepas , Gelugor area most of the time, anyone can comment on the speed? I would say the only time I needed a lot of data is when i'm using, Youtube, FB (videos) and Spotify streaming (very high setting) Is 5mpbs speed enough for those above? thanks. And im using P79 which means i have uncapped speed. But i was on 3g signal (due to my modem is only 3g). However your speed will vary depending on base station busyness and location and time. And Bayan Lepas i believe is quite a wide area. |

So I'm planning to buy a um prepaid sim to test um coverage and speed at my area, and if all goes well I'll port over from unifi prepaid. My question is do i need to buy another sim for the mnp process or just use the existing one I've used to test? Looking at um website, for online mnp its intructed to buy a simcard and register at the dealer, key in the new simcard number and serial at the online form, reply to existing telco mnp confirmation then use the um sim but it didn't mention anywhere whether the um sim need to be activated or not after purchase before invoking the mnp process. Its confusing.

Hope Umobile can introduce more flexible add on for prepaid, just like how Digi introduces the add on of daily plan, music plan, video lite plan and etc...
