Actually doesnt need to be exact 13inch, im fine with screen size. 15inch also can.
Just not too heavy, good battery life, nice design, good display
No need: good gpu, since im not using it, without gpu also fine

Im looking at asus zenbook 14 and Huawei Matebook
*
But you said that you want upgradable RAM?

1060 laptop is also fine, but got newer and faster graphics card out now. I prefer 1660ti cos i dont really see the use of raytracing in 2060 for me, but if the price between the two isnt much different i rather have the better one.
*
But 1660TI/2060 laptops is above 5k

Acer Swift 3 SF314-55G-547H or Asus Zenbook UX430U-NGV176T

Can't comment on Prodigy and Rogue since I haven't test them out, however Rogue should be OK (2.35kg)

Fine with 1060 laptop? Or you prefer 2060/1660TI?

So you're looking at tablet. TBH there isn't much options to choose from since I personally avoid Surface products. Fine with 2 in 1 convertible? Cannot detach display but got touchscreen

ok. Ya, i am fine with 2 in 1 convertible.

Then be specific smile.gif

You may look at Microsoft Surface to be honest . Got couple of freebies

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/microsof...jS1Jg3&search=1

If not soo power user , can look for normal Surface
Personally if you are looking at a good 2-in-1 laptop computer/tablet. I WOULD recommend Lenovo Yoga but it's a bit meh , Surface is still FTW
*
oops.gif

Why lenovo Yoga is a bit meh?

1660Ti would do the trick , as it has a bit more cores. So you can play future games at 1080p High (maybe slight things at Medium also). Now would the whole laptop last after 4 years , that's a different question...

1060 is still going strong and will go strong for 1080p gaming
*
so how much is the difference in performance between a 1060 and a 1660Ti and price difference? i seen the 1060 around for quite some time.

yeah 4 years would be a stretch :c

I can increase budget by 500, but i will put off buying 2.5 storage and ram upgrade for the meantime.

Hi, I am looking for a laptop for university use. Mainly engineering softwares for 3D modelling and renders such as SolidWorks, AutoCad.

Budget:
Up to RM 6-7.5K. Would prefer something really bang for my buck.

Requirements:
1. Processor: min. 3.0 GHz Multi-core CPU
2. Memory: min. 16 GB RAM and 500 GB HDD/SSD (or both)
3. Display: 15.6" HD LED or better
4. Graphics: min. 4 GB vRAM NVIDIA
5. Operating System: Windows 10 Professional 64 bit
6. Battery: last at least 3 - 4 hours unplugged
7. Weight: max 3 kg

Preference:
Good build quality, thin bezels, camera up top, good keyboard and trackpad, minimal design aesthetics

Currently looking at the MS Surface Book 2 but will cost me my left kidney

Thanks all

Surface is much more value for money if you ask me. True 2-in-1 , can run as a tablet or laptop. Has a pen and it's pretty good for the usage

TLDR - both can pump >60fps on High settings or even Highest - except for 1060 on Tomb Raider (at highest setting) - even my external GPU can't pump that high in highest settings.

4 years should be okay at high/medium settings

My recommendation is to pick up the one with 1660Ti. The reason being is you aren't getting the stupid Max-Q variant which is a joke by nvidia. You would be thinking the max 2060 , but nope it's a crippled 2060 with lower clock speed. 1660Ti looks like full version - so you should get good performacne out of it

Fine with low sRGB display? Mind non-upgradable RAM? You probably don't need to spend so much

If you want 1660TI/2060, can consider Illegear Rogue (haven't review, but should be good) and Level51 Forge 15 Pro

Dual channel RAM is highly recommended

FYI many regular laptops with good display don't have upgradable RAM

Thinkpad T490, T480 and L380 Yoga are over budget

Ideapad S540 - not sure it has good display (advertisement say 72% NTSC), no reviews

Fine with 16GB non-upgradable RAM?

FYI 1660TI mobile is slightly slower than 2060 mobile. Both have reduced clock speed compared to desktop ones

Fine with low sRGB display. RAM should be at 8gb, otherwise scare lag when open too many pages at one time.

Lenovo Yoga 530 81EK013BMJ +RAM or Lenovo Yoga 520 81C80016MJ / 17MJ +RAM

Under 3k, good battery life. Only thing is it only has 1 RAM slot

For more options you can refer to regular laptop list

Can consider this too, a little over budget: Lenovo Yoga S730 81J0005MMJ / 81J0005NMJ - no USB A

But if you are gaming at 1080p (High) - assuming you remove DLSS and ray tracing , both can do a good job. Unless he really needs the Turing cores for machine learning

Would like to ask which should I choose ?
Illegear Raven or Onyx Lite ?

Raven has better spec with i5 9300H and GTX 1650 but it is heavier(2.2kg0 as portable is my concern because I am a college students. It has thicker bezel than the Onyx Lite. Cheaper too(RM3766)

Onyx Lite has i5 8300H and GTX 1050 Ti. It is lighter(1.95kg) for my needs as a college students. In my opinion, the screen bezel is thinner too which is very nice to look at compared to Raven. However , it is slightly expensive too( RM3899)

What do you guys think? Do you think I should sacrifice better spec to get a portable one ? Will I regret ? I kinda in a dilemma.

You need to try out the weight by yourself. Some might think that 2.2kg is light/acceptable while some might think that even 2kg is heavy

Any preference on battery life? Max budget? Sure you want gaming laptop?

Yeah but the Onyx Lite is so nice to look at with thinner bezel and lighter too, but Raven has better specs. Battery life 3-4 hours should be okay, max budget 4k. Having a gaming laptop would be okay too.

For that budget get a good 1650 model
