Hi guys, been researching on ultrabooks and came across this model ASUS zenbook 14 ux433.

Any comments on this particular model or have better alternatives around this price tag?

Have seen mixed reviews on the ASUS laptops and not sure on its QC as I plan to use it for longer term
*
Personally I would opt for Thinkpad. Since you've mentioned long term. I am assuming that the price is around RM 4000 or so

Consider T-series or X280 , sure you'll not get the best specs for that price but Thinkpads are known to be durable and lasts pretty long.....

Hi I'm looking for a Laptop for architecture usage.

1. Preferred Brand : No preference.

2. Budget : 6 - 7k ish

3. Screen size : preferably 17inch

4. Main preference : able to withstand concurrent usage of Lumion, Sketch up and Autocad ( prefer smooth performance and not to overheat during rendering )

5. Usage : Architechture work. designing softwares like  Lumion, autocad, revit, Photoshop, Illustrator..

Question : is minimum of 32gb a must ? For concurrent usage of LUMION Sketch up and autocad ?
*
Personally I would opt for Thinkpad P-series , those aren't cheap but I would say you could say that PC easily would last....are you willing to spend it

Or if you don't mind , you can go for consumer level , but normally for your workload - you would nee business/prosumer level smile.gif

CAD stuff normally works best with Quadro. GeForce can still do the work , but then again Quadro would normally igve the boost

Ideapad 330 (15 Intel) vs Thinkpad E585(Amd) which is better?  hmm.gif
coz I manage to config the Thinkpad to match as close to Ideapad specs. and I notice is cheaper for thinkpad. heck you can get more ram when you match it price. lol
*
Thinkpad E585

i can't seem to find latitude configurations and dell online store no price.

i never use Thinkpad before, E490 really that poor?  confused.gif

with around my budget, i can set thinkpad to these build:
1) E490->  i7-8565U , Ram 8gb, gpu: AMD RX550 X
2) T480->  i5-8250U , Ram 8gb, gpu: Nvidia MX150

spec wise, E490 seems to achieve higher spec than T480 with around same price.
but is the i7 really give much performance? confused.gif
*
T series , E series is basically consumer level like ZM Fong pointed out. So my recommendation is to go for T-series, you could easily upgrade and it's pretty durable laptop
Personally i would pick T series , if you need recommendation try reddit thinkpad subforum

QUOTE(ZM Fong @ Mar 6 2019, 01:15 PM)
Thinkpad E is basically consumer rebrand

Most Ryzen laptops have inconsistent/poor CPU performance and battery life due to bad drivers/firmware/BIOS

Can refer to my regular laptop list for more options
*
Lenovo were the first ones to allow Ryzen . So far I checked out some youtube vidoes , gives you some decent performance for the price.

Min battery life  - Not too sure on this as I havent had much experience dealing with laptop battery life. is 2-3 hours while running programs on a high or low battery life end.

Max Weight - Around 1.5kg max preferably.

thinkpad seems like a good shout.

Any thoughts on asus zenbook 14 vs thinkpad T?
*
What sort of programs do you run ?

just wondering, E series is consumer level, is it still much better build than ideapad series or same same only? confused.gif

want to know is how severe the cooling in E490? confused.gif
is it always that hot when only multi tab web browsing and using visual studio
or hot when constantly playing game?

if i5 and i7 no much difference, with around the same spec setup for E490 and T480,
the price difference is around RM500+-
this RM500 worth the better cooling and battery in T480?
*
QUOTE(BZP @ Mar 7 2019, 01:50 AM)
hmm... tat means for laptop, no matter GPU MX 150 or RX550X, when it gets HOT, the performance about the same as UHD620 ?

if Thinkpad T480 which is better? with or without MX 150?
*
Yes , it is better built - at least you get the iconic thinkpad keyboard

It does get warm when you do certain tasks , but mostly if it is going to be on a desk , it is fine. The T480 is on its own class , its premium and you can easily upgrade it (lets say two months down the road , you want to add a 4G card , it can be done , or upgrade the ram , it can be done...replace the screen with 4K screen...it can be done

MX150/RX550X is way better vs UHD 620 if you are talking about gaming. Now it boils down to do you need a dedicated GPU or not....if no , save the money - get the built in GPU , if you think you need because you play some games from time to time , i say get the dGPU

so only E480 problematic, E490 or T480 is still fine right?

I guess I will still play games occasionally and some other application, so dGPU is needed.

interesting, i never know T480 can be easily upgrade?
especially, the 4k screen.
the upgrades can be done by who? me or lenovo shop or send back to lenovo factory?  confused.gif
wont the warranty void?
*
Actually E480 is also okay (if you go reddit for thinkpad - got people who buy them - they are okay just htat you don't get the full thinkpad build quality la) . E480 can be upgraded

T480 can be easily upgradable and it's the last thinkpad (T490) that you can upgrade/change the battery , screen , even the keyboard. The beauty part of is the warranty wouldnt be voided. Thinkpad is the only laptop that dont put a seal to say warranty void at the back cover

You buy the parts and pasang sendiri (got manual) , upgrade ones they can do but it costs a bomb.

https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/ <-- join the community and look how durable Thinkpad are ....

thinkpad x1 extreme got thermal throttling ? how to prevent it?
thanks

9570 battery lasts longer . All the tests shows that , anyway to be fair it needs to be compared apple to apple

however i5 with FUll HD screen can easily get 8hrs on battery life (surfing with minimum brightness)

Thanks Bro.

Was wondering, on the after sales side or after warranty period,
would it be hard/expensive on the parts if I were to get Huawei Matebook ?

Huawei matebook is one of my preferred choice.

also Thinking of Lenovo Ideapad 330 15" / Asus Vivobook S15 / Acer Aspire E15  blush.gif  rclxub.gif

If you really want on after/sales service support and to easily replace the parts (aka taobao) shopping - opt for Thinkpad or Dell XPS business series.
Normally business laptops have spare parts for a longggggg time and you can easily find them - because generally big companies don't change laptop every year or two years - it's like every 5 years or so

https://www.lenovo.com/my/en/laptops/thinkp...5/p/22TP2TEE585

Now it's an AMD , but it's still alright if you care about after sales/service/parts or what-not

Display not too low option la if can but it's not an important clause if it will cause the difference in cost to be a lot
*
E480 with 8GB of RAM ,

I did a E480 configuration with Core i7 - , 8GB of RAM (E480 still have the memory to be user replaceable , so in the future you can add 8GB extra and get 16GB)

Its the last E series that can be upgraded , before the whole new soldered ones

Actually you can get Thinkpad T580 with UHD panel and 32+72Wh battery under 5k

Alternatively you can go for UX533F-DA9111T if you want lighter+slimmer profile, however it seems like it aldy out of stock
*
Get the T580 - It's the last series of Lenovo T-series that can be truly upgraded. Plus it's a true laptop

Loving my Thinkpad

No - becoming like Macs already - one time use. A lot of people buy Thinkpad because you could easily upgrade/keep it for long time. Now it looks like one time user only

Hi, I've been shopping around for a laptop.

Requirements:
- Number pad
- battery last min 5hours on regular usages
- budget below 3.5k

So far i'm eyeing Thinkpad E585 with Ryzen 7 2700U, 8G (min).
Any other recommendations?

Thanks in advance.
*
The Ryzen is okay (I know ZM Fong would go like OH NOES...). Personally it does an okay job and the Ryzen GPU is good. Some dude managed to get Final Fantasy to work on 1080p with respectable settings
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLmgmEW_FoQ

Plus it's a thinkpad.....

FHD , didn't get the 4K cause my work laptop was using 1080p on 12.5" , all soo small , scaling is horrible.....

Battery Life - 1st cycle getting 5hrs...i think need to run couple of tests....

I am using the i7 right now , it's freaking hot...plus the CPU gets throttled , so while you play games , you might get good fps , suddenly it will just dip.....had to undervolt.
Our weather + i7 does not go well.....I should have picked the i5 and pimped up the SSD to 1TB

I5 enough for Adobe CC (Photoshop/illustratot/InDesign)?
Also VMware?
I also think just get i5 for battery life and thermal....
But for 360 for i7 and future proof...
*
Depends you doing light work or not The issue is that if you can control the heat , the i7 would be much more faster without thermal thorttling at shitty speeds...

I bought i7 due to future proof but would have kept the i5 with all the cores working max without getting nerfed to the max

VMWare etc, better pimp up the ram to 16 ,(i am using 16gb right now)
