QUOTE(ZM Fong @ Nov 20 2018, 03:06 AM) Sorry for my lack of details. I must have been half asleep. I belive that anything not 8th gen is not worth it since I'm buying new. When buying new, I expect the latest components. I also belive that anything below i3 for laptops is useless and i5/i7 would make laptop louder since they will heat up more. The heat reason is also why I hate dedicated grpahics in laptops. I also should have added that I'm looking for a touchscreen FHD laptop with at least an i3 processor. AMD equivalent also ok. |

QUOTE(ZM Fong @ Nov 20 2018, 03:34 PM) haha nvm I'm refering to U seriers i5/i7. OK so a few things to clear up: 1. Getting the latest tech for the same price compared to old tech is worth it 2. i3 is fine for light workload, in fact some ppl can get away from Pentium/core m CPU 3. Which i5 and i7 you refer to? The lack of architecture improvement and keep pushing up clock speed/cores are the main reasons why 8th gen mobile chips run hot, however if the cooling system is capable of handling the heat output together with a few tweaks, there shouldn't have any thermal issue 4. dGPU indeed increase heat output, but some ppl need it (like me). Again it can be tuned for better thermals What's your max budget? Usage? Any preference on weight, display size, display quality and battery life? Max Budget is 4k but prefer to spend closer to 2k. Usage mainly word document, powerpoint but going to be doing a bit C++ and basic Java in the future. Weight as light as possible Display would like 13"/14" FHD touchscreen battery life don't really care as long as charger is really long. My current laptop charger is 3m. |

1. Budget : as affordable as possible 2. Usage : well, I just want something newer and more reliable than my current laptop with an i3-2350m. The i3-2350m is sufficent for my intended work load. 3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) : must be able to access 2.5" drive mount easily (e.g. via dedicated maintence panel) |

QUOTE(dany06 @ Feb 15 2019, 05:52 PM) Hi, If you're purely going to be only using word/basic excel (excel can be very demanding), a RM 1000 to RM 1200 will work. Any suggestions for secondary school student to purely work on word/excel etc? Looking for cheapest laptop with acceptable reliability. I can get around 1k - 1.2k via lazada/shopee but i don't know if those are goods or not. Thanks. However I will strongly recommend getting something like a Lenovo Ideapad 330S at around RM 2000. This is because you never know when your needs will change and a RM 1000 ish laptop will quickly show it's weakness outside of the most basic tasks. QUOTE(tryingtolearn @ Feb 17 2019, 12:19 AM) Hi, Lenovo Ideapad 330SI'm looking for a laptop recommendations for my dad. His previous laptop is the Sony Vaio vpceg17fg; it's passed down to my sister. Sorry for the long post, I tried to be as thorough as possible. The Requirements: Usage: Mainly for work purposes [Microsoft Office], some net surfing with multiple tabs], some occasional Youtube and Movie watching and very light gaming [those require low resources, metroidvania ish, platformer type] CPU: At least something similar as the older one [i3-2310M]. Can I get an I5 processor at this price range? RAM: 4GB minimum, non-soldered, expandable. Storage: SSD [256GB or empty slot and I put my own SDD] and another HDD Slot or DVD slot that I can convert to HDD slot, if possible. Graphic: Integrated is fine but if discrete is available for the price, then discrete please. Screen: 13+” or wider screen, 1080p. No idea about high/low sRGB as long it’s as good as the previous laptop, it’s okay. Non-touch type. Battery life: Decent battery life [at least 4h], longer the better. [Replaceable battery] Weight: As light as the possible as long as it fits all the requirements [2-2.5kg. The old one was at 2.3kg] Others: Good warranty service; If possible back-lit keyboard; Brand: No preferences as long has decent build quality and good service. Something with 2 years warranty if possible. Budget: 2K-2.5K [Lower the better] Any physical shop recommendation? I’m from Kampar, Perak but I doubt there’s many choices in Ipoh. Well be heading down to KL on the 21st/22nd, so thinking of buying then. Prefer not to buy through online store. I'm thinking of possibly getting the laptop from Viewnet in Lowyat Plaza. Is that place okay? Thank you in advance. Acer Aspire 5 |

QUOTE(tryingtolearn @ Feb 17 2019, 04:52 PM) Removable batteries on laptops have almost disappeared. The only laptops I'm aware that has removable batteries are older chassis that continues to be refreshed. I think affordable Pavilion with a couple of gen old Intel CPU and Acer E14/E15. The problem with these laptops with older chassis is that they are old which means that they feel dated. Try looking for computers with DVR-RW. This is a rough indicator that the laptop will have a removable battery. |

QUOTE(tryingtolearn @ Feb 17 2019, 09:46 PM) I see. Then, in the case of non-removeable batteries, wouldn't the battery degradation be faster with the continuous discharge and recharge? From my experience, there's no difference between non-removable and removable batteries in terms of longevity.I might be wrong, but non-removable batteries also tend to spot larger capacity. |

QUOTE(cerberus9900 @ Feb 18 2019, 05:14 PM) Sifus, Depends on your expectations. I rate the Idepad 330 as a low end model. Poor viewing angles with it's TN display and has unnecessarily bulky and heavy. I rather spend a bit more and get the S version, 330S.A help.. Looking to replace my laptop.. Looking around, I found something I'm interested in nearby my place.. A Lenovo Ideapad Model.. 330 15-IKBR-81D-E01-JAMJ for RM1850.. I have a spare 256GB SSD.. I only have to buy a 4GB DDR4 RAM.. With the RAM, the total comes up to RM1970.. ngam ngam 2K.. Any reason I shouldn't get this particular model? Only looking for studies.. no gaming probably.. Good battery life 4 hours okay.. |
