QUOTE(wilson1stop @ Sep 19 2018, 01:08 PM) 2 years ago, TIME was battled for price wars at 100Mbps RM149. Today, TIME listened to users which doubled network capacity and improved wifi coverage. If your place got TIME, better look for them instead LOYAL to TM... LOL, I'm wishing my area got TIME indeed... QUOTE(soonwai @ Sep 19 2018, 12:02 PM) 4850HQ, no, only 0x19. Latest from Intel is as you've said, 0x1A. Eh??!CODE mbpr:~ $ printf '0x%x\n' `sysctl -a | grep microcode | awk '{print $2}'` 0x19 Will be updating to MacOS Mojave later this month. Will check then if 0x1A is there. 4570T, yes, 0x25, latest as per Intel. CODE ~$ dmesg | grep microcode [   0.792392] microcode: sig=0x306c3, pf=0x2, revision=0x25 [   0.792431] microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.2. But 0x19 is the problematic microcode version, yet your 4850HQ only has 60 - 70% utilization on one core? It makes me wonder if MacOS make use of microcode ibrs, ibpb and stipp or just Retpoline re-compilation solution. After all, Retpoline method has negligible impact compared to microcode register solution. It is also possible for the kernel only make use of one out of the three microcode register which lessen the penalty. I read linux operating system such as Ubuntu and Redhat use retpoline solution except when Skylake CPU is detected as repotline method doesn't work for that CPU generation. Example, from RedHat documentation: QUOTE Intel Defaults: IBRS has the worst performance penalty. That is why repotline is used as default for pre-skylake cpu if microcode MSRs is detected.   pti=1 ibrs=0 retp=1 ibpb=1-> fix variant#1 #2 #3 for pre-Skylake cpus   pti=1 ibrs=1 retp=0 ibpb=1-> fix variant#1 #2 #3 for Skylake cpus   pti=1 retp=1 ibrs=0 ibpb=0 -> fix variant#1 #3 (for older Intel systems with no microcode update available) On the other hand, I noticed IBRS performance penalty seem to be higher for older microcode version compared to latest microcode. Windows kernel for one is using all three microcode registers ibrs, ibpb and stipp instead of retpoline. One needs to manually enable SSBD for windows. Perhaps it is the reason on why performance penalty on MacOS is less than Windows? This post has been edited by JohnLai: Sep 19 2018, 01:54 PM |

QUOTE(glowhawk @ Sep 19 2018, 11:51 AM) Anyone in the Sri Petaling area gotten the unifi turbo boost to 100mbps yet? Best u go nearby TM point to make request for checking Turbo line. They can easily hook up technician to help u.Noticed in the thread that a few forumers getting the boost to 800mbps. Mine is still capped at 10mbps. My neighbour from OUG did that, and amazingly turbo-ed same day. |

=.=.....sigh, I made a report asking for turbo as soon as possible two days ago.
TM staff called just now and asked me to wait until next year. Something about phase by phase bullshit, staff can't do anything, it is upper management decision, then changed excuse to my ONU and router not supporting it, next excuse change to TM office infrastructure not yet ready, there is no turbo team etc. Dei, so easy to counter those excuses. TM staff ended up asking me to downgrade if not satisfied. Shit, my account was slated for April 2019 lehhhhhhh. Is TM really expect me to wait that long? No wonder TM removed that turbo eligibility verification website. |
