Anyone using custom firmware instead of the official firmware?

As you all know, I'm gonna purchase himedia pro series again...i sold in the first place partially due to the missing sub lines. So wondering the custom firmware is better...

yes I agree, now I'm regretting that my NAS only bought 4 x 4tb, after their so call raid, I think I have ard 10 tb to use only.....

Yes I want all all full menu with full audio output Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital MA 7.1 so that I can fully utilize my my home theater setup.
WiFi not required since I mostly stream 4K via gigabit Ethernet and i was told that if I use WiFi it will eat up my WiFi bandwidth. USB also not much of an issue as I hook up to my own plex server via gigabit Ethernet. Audio output would have to be in the highest format of the 4k.
Apps using would be Netflix (I have a premium account), kodi (currently using on mibox 3S mainly for icdrama), plex and VLC (mainly to stream my own server). Plex is unable to load BDMV and iso files, thus I have to manually use makemkv to convert them into mkv so it appear on plex.

now that i understand yr prime requirements, i will say...
.. there aren't many players that can do full bd menu; those which do, use their own proprietory player app and not generic player apps like vlc or mx.
.. there r other boxes that can play BDMV/atmos/dtsx but u need to navigate to the main file to play... however, will not get full menu.
.. converting bdmv to mkv is an outrageously tedious and inefficient task... u just need to find the right player(s), they exist.
.. afaik, only certain models from himedia, ziddo and egreat can do 2160p full BDMV menu; there may be others which i don't know.

Ok...so, after a couple of months using Zidoo X9S, looks like the general consensus in the household is Himedia is overall easier to use...
Personally I'd prefer zidoo for the picture quality, and Home Theater 2.0, but I've to agree interface wise, Himedia better...
So, will be on the lookout for a new Himedia on sale soon...hopefully 12.12 ada offer

The X9S (Android 5) can do wonders, but there are newer models (android 7) in the market at the moment, pricing wise not that cheap...for now.

I tried a concert pop up menu, couldn't navigate to the song I want after the main menu, need to go to main menu back again to reselect the track I wanna listen

That's the difference between an authored disc and raw data files and the difference between the DVD-Video spec and the BDMV spec:
To play menus, and those other authored features, you MUST have an authored spec-based player, not just a raw file-based player.
The DVD-Video spec has long since been decrypted, decoded, reverse-engineered to the point that there are FOSS softwares that can play (nearly) the full DVD-Video spec. Either disc or ISO.
The Blu-ray spec is much newer (2006 vs. 1995), and the IP involved is much more tightly controlled and hawkishly guarded, so there is no FOSS software that fully covers the spec. Only paid, licensed software such as Cyberlink.
Which is why what you see in things like KODI and other free players is only raw files when it comes to BD level.
Until such time as the BD spec gets more fully reverse-engineered, or the powers that be let it be more opened up (not gonna happen), that's just the way it is.

Hi HiMedia sifus, i have upgraded my Media player and recently found my previous HiMedia Q5 (Single core/ARM Cortex A9 1GHz) and it can still boot! As this is dated and  no more support, let me know if so happen you have the last updated firmware newer than mine as below:

Most newer app cannot run due to Android version 4.
Feel free to suggest better APKs or other  alternative too (I just wish it can watch local/SG/HK channels & Adrama app for TVB series).

as for vinyl, I still stick to vinyl itself , although I can say vinyl Flac is quite good itself

but I still got issue playing bdmv , still will hang halfway

hmm, yesterday tested some 1080p bdmv, some will hang, then show app not responding
some menus doesn't really work
and one audio came out muffled

I have not talked about the Q10Pro in some time but wanted to get back to those who have asked me some questions.

I feel that the Q10Pro is pretty good as it does play back BDs, UHD BDs (iso and folders) with ease. With the auto frame rate patch/script I find that it does get it right.

What I don't quite like is the choice of colour space is not really as versatile. I believe this is more of an Android OS issue as most other boxes seem to get the same issues as this.

I hv compared it to the Oppo 203 (JB) version and I hv found that the images seem to be sharper and I believe its purely due to the conversion from YCbCr 4:2:0 to both RGB and YCbCr (4:2:2 or 4:4:4) is done better by the Oppo hence allowing slightly better images. There is some chroma resolution that is either converted wrongly or with some errors by the Android boxes. I don't have the correct patterns to back this up but will follow up with more info when I can.

I don't use Kodi or any apps, so the box is not really being used to the max by me.

I forgot what happened many months ago where I have to change to a new skin. Noted that since then I cannot use the go back menu functions. Few days ago, my Pro5 auto updated to Kodi 18. Now cannot use the up, down, right, left functions. Have to configure a tv remote device for these functions but some do not work.
