himedia V1:

for new box buyers... himedia has no new model coming as far as i know.

most popular current models are still q10pro and Q5pro.

firmware 2.0.9 for q10pro and q5pro has been available for a week or 2 now.

but i am not rushing into it since i find 2.0.8 very good, no urgent need for new firmware.

will wait a bit, see if there is anything more from the reviews.

below is what i use my Q10pro for:

.. Q10pro->AVR->4k hdr TV+5.1 home theater.
.. sata drive inside box; 100gb spare for torrenting direct/temp and kodi quasar (watch n delete).
.. apps: astrogo, cloudtv, globaltv, redbox, livenettv, freeflix, terrarium, icdrama rss player, acestream media, kodi.
.. utilities: brave browser, dolphin browser, es file explorer pro, asus file manager, mx pro, vlc, xplayer, yes player.
.. playback: mkv, bdmv; 1080p, 2160p, hdr; dd, dd+, ddtruehd, dts, dtshdma.

will be happy to help if i can, on issues regarding above. wink.gif

One addition to the Q10pro that I found very good was the autoframerate/auto resolution script found at futeko forum done by a forummer. It works well in setting the right frame rate and the resolution to match the source frame rate and resolution. It's almost a source direct mode!

before i forget... anyone who has trouble wih icdrama (in kodi, esp)... hk, china, taiwan, korean, japanese tv shows n movies...

just install rss player:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...rssplayer&hl=en

use this link as source:
allrss.se/dramas

all is good, zero maintenance.

i have it all the time on q10pro... and just put it in a 6.5yr old Q5ii, wifi 50ft... still v good! biggrin.gif

icdrama rss will work on all models... q5ii, q15, q5pro, h8, a5... maybe any box.

it works well for u?

i had problems with that script... it does auto switch from 1080p to 2160p hdr and vice versa but i got flickers and dropped frames.

maybe due to the cheap AVR and HDR TV i have! laugh.gif

pcristi did comment that such problems may occur, and hv been reported by other users as well.

becos it only happens to 4k hdr videos, i suspect it's due to my AVR which is an entry level one.

will give it another shot with the next improved script.

After using this box for close to 9 months, can't say that the experience was as good when I first used it

Subtitle bug still remains unfixed after numerous firmware upgrades. And, apps and system UI tend to crash (stopped responding), though for this particular issue, it could be due to box running too hot (heat dissipation isn't great), but then again, the problem occurs even within 5 minutes after booting up, but becomes more stable after the box "warms up" :S

Though, still happy with the AV quality of the box, and I like this launcher compared to MINIX's. But most likely I will opt for another brand if this box fails me within the next 1 - 2 years.

I think Q10 Pro has better heatsink/fan
I am using Q5 Pro, and it gets really hot

I have faced problem with Kodi, Astro Go, Terrarium, RSS Player etc, pretty sure it's not app specific, if it's serious enough, the whole system will just crash (system has stopped responding error)

One last thing that I'd try, get a USB fan and attach it to the box's USB port, and let it blow directly towards the box and see if this alleviate the problem laugh.gif

If this doesn't help, just get another box when this one dies on me smile.gif

I am surprised, first time hearing this q5pro problem.

My q16, q5ii which similar to q5pro do not have heating issues.

They get a little warm but keep working.

But yes, put in open space, use a mini fan... if long hours operation.

I'm recently getting the crashing problem on my Q30 as well. Happens only with 2-3 apps but mainly Kodi 17.6. It was running very well in the beginning.

Thinking about it, it seems to have started when I updated to 2.0.8 OFW months ago. I'm staying away from 2.0.9 for the moment.

Never had such issues with my Q5ii for years.

update...

i decide to go firmware 2.0.9, tried autoFMTswitch 1.3.9.1 again.

this time, it works fine, no more flickers, no dropped frames. rclxms.gif

very nice to have both auto frame and auto resolution at work.

i can't tell if the script was not properly installed the first time or the new firmware did something to it.

also... firmware 2.0.9... the usual himedia file manager is gone.

himedia probably felt it is redundant since it is already in media center.

if u want it back, can find apk in futeko.com, install.

apps crashing is common - esp those loaded with ads and hidden invasive elements.

kodi.. it does not crash if u keep to min addons, clean up regularly and not let dead stuff accumulate there.

i just installed firmware 2.0.9, looks fine to me.

i wud think the version for q30 is almost the same as for q10pro/q5pro.

I'm still on 2.0.8 , will try 2.0.9 this weekend. 2.0.9 is supposed to fix some UHD menu for some titles. Will be good to check. I can't recall which titles I had problem with UHD menu...I believe I had issues with only 1 - 2 titles.

i hv a couple of BDMV 1080p or 4k HDR that did not play full BD menu right.

with 209, one became good but the other still no good... but could be the rip was poor.

overall, i think the BDMV/BD iso 1080p/2160p HDR full menu feature is good enough, mature now.

it is this feature that i really appreciate Q10pro - i love to watch "the making", "deleted scenes"!

i think only EGreat can do this as well, no other box.

and with auto frame + auto resolution switch now, excellent.
