I think your choice of companies is flawed - the primary problem is that those companies release FPSs. It is in their best financial interest to release mod tools as mods keep interest in their games past initial release. However the same is not true for RTS. I don't disagree it would be great if Relic released more capable engine tools, just dissecting your analogy. No other RTS has more capable mod tools.

Actually WC3 have mod tool and everything turn out fine.. well almost..

DOW doesnt want a mod tool since they fear mods might outshine their game it self. Look at CS and Dota.

I've got all 4 current books. Its worth the read , i feel its much better than Harry Potter, their character's die harder compare to HP.

BL is currently expanding their book collection, many writers prefer the imperium because they have a richer background and many ways to write it compared to the other fractions.
If you want non-imperium you can go for:
Dark Apostle(chaos)
Storm of Iron (out of print)(chaos)
Eldar Prophecy(Eldar)
Lord of The Night (chaos)

Although currently not much. But it'll soon expand its collection. and Yes, BL is the only publisher of 40K books. In my opinion , this maybe because the GW does not distribute its rights to many people.

suggest that, your assumption may not be correct. Mod tools can pro-long the life time of the game. If the mod is over power the original game, it doesnt means that the original game creator going to have problem.

Take DOTA as an example, even majority (malaysian of course ) agree that DOTA is 100x better than the original gameplay. You still need the original Frozen throne to run the mod. Which mean that, the original creator, Blizzard, still be able to make profit by selling more copies of the game.

Another great example would be Counter strike. It's wont be able to survive that long if CS never exist. Just because of this great Mod, Half life still selling like hot cakes even today.

In a nutshell, you cannot play DOTA without warcraft3, and u cant play CS wihout half life installed.

wow i havent been on in awhile and this happens ... oh well.. to me for relic its just business.. keeping a team constantly on DOW cost money and money better utilizes in making DOW2 hehehhe
well we dont know if there will be DOW2 but lets all hope for the best.. anyways DCpro sounds interesting i'll take a look at it too.. as for me i shall never leave DOW behind heck its the first ever RTS game that i truly enjoy playing

You cant really help avoiding dota in daily conversation since DOTA is indeed consuming everything.

Well for CS since Valve bought the rights for the game therefore i guess it indeed profitable. maybe relic should follow suit for DOWpro.

Alright, just played a few test game against easy AI on DCPro. At first, cant really say I like it as feel like playing a backdated game :\ You can find all the old icons in there which I dont really favor of. Oh well... personal favor I believe. No more fast tech, you are going to stay in tier1 for a very, very long period of time as you dont find a reason to tech. Tried Chaos, SM and Orks. Chaos is back to DOW style where Chaos and SM is pretty much the same. Hero wargear add depth to the gameplay and without wargear, hero sux as they die like fly with their initial hp. No more ******* tanker and killer

Not only FPS company release engine tools or SDK,Generals did have SDK and C&C 3 gonna get one soon.Starcraft and Warcraft have a dummy friendly mod tools.There are more RTS that have mod tool but i just cant recall now.

Now days,most FPS and RTS,and even RPGs like Oblivion and Never Winter Knights have mod tools.

It's just up to Relic whether they want to release mod tools.

DOW is one of the RTS that i have enjoyed the most.It's one of the great RTS that manage to capture the feel of battle.

Forget about those flying spaghetti monster since it mostly happen in Malaysia that most people doesnt respect intellectual property.

There are some people in the community that are extremely talented in DoW modding,not only the DCPro team.I think they should be hired and fire those lazy basket in Relic.

Yeah,it's design based on vanilla but it has gone with it's own direction at the end of WA.The first 4 race are almost the same as vanilla DoW but IG,Tau and Necrons are completely different.I love their IG's design.

Hero wargear makes me think about DotA. They did implement it well,though and relic is really worth fighting for now.More reqs,relic units and war gear.

Besides,most of the main commanders are affected by Wargear.Heroes like Chaplain arent affected but Lord Destroyer or Big Mek are affected by Wargear.

You need sometime to adapt to it.Besides,you'll notice a game of DCPro will take longer than DC.

Well DOWPRO was supose to mantain the vanila complexity.

WA was to simplify the game which is carry on in DC.



I dont think relic is lazy. To them they feel DOW is a lost cost and resources is better spend on something else.

Cant say I enjoy it as I havent play against human opponent yet. But what cheese said is right, the game in DCPro sure takes at least x2 longer in DC.

Not necessary, the game may end befor tier2. just like old vannila style.
