Viofo has sent over their latest A129 dual dashcam for testing.

Do note that this is a pre-production unit. So there is no retail box, accessories or manual. Production unit might be different from what I have below. Expected to launch end of May 2018.

Technical Specs:
• Processor: Novatek NT96663
• Sensor: Front & Rear - Sony IMX291 Starvis sensor

• Aperture: ???
• Resolution: Front only – 1080p 30/60fps. Dual – 1080p 30fps

• Dual band Wi-Fi
• Bluetooth remote
• GPS mount (optional)
• CPL filter for front and rear (optional)

Videos
Recorded in 1920×1080 30fps with an overall bit rate of 16.9 Mb/s.

Final thoughts?
Well, this A129 is not yet in its final form.

What do I like about it? 1) Better mount system, slides to the right, not up. 2) Sony IMX291 Starvis sensor for both front & rear cam. 3) Dual-band WiFi. 4) Great new lens. 5) Bluetooth remote for emergency recording. 6) Removable rear cam 7) Parking Mode (hardwire kit).

I miss the power button from the A119/A119S/A119 Pro.

Is there likely a super capacitor in the rear cam?

Rear cams usually don't require battery or capacitor. Usually, require on the front cam as it's the brain. Settings in kept at the front cam.

Hope this Viofo A129 is like what u describe. I installed a Viofo A119v2 for my rear window and was covered by my rear sunshade. Due to this, my Viofo A119 is very hot and the super capacitor became faulty. My date and settings always reset after every shutdown. I send this unit to Viofo China for repair. I have gotten back my dashcam. Currently the date will not reset but the settings will still reset after every shutdown. doh.gif

Probably will buy this Viofo A129 for my current car rclxm9.gif

First time hear the capacitor died due to heat. Your car doesn't have tint? sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

But there are some cases with faulty capacitors due to mass produce item.

I installed the Llumar t4-50 security tint. I forgot what was the Llumar tint for the rear windscreen. It was working perfectly fine for a month plus until it suddenly always pop up an error due to the date inaccurate. This rear dashcam is installed in between the rear windscreen and sunshade so is freaking hot. Or mayb it is just a faulty capacitor coz so far the repaired dashcam is still working fine.

Thats probably cap faulty or the rtc battery faulty. For the setting, need to check. Could be eprom or firmware issue. Have you try reflash the firmware?

If you were on gps module. Please remember to set the time zone correctly.

Last time i flashed to the latest firmware. I did not use the gps module for my rear dashcam coz i have another same Viofo A119v2 with gps module for my front windscreen. I did notice the last video always corrupted, date inaccurate and setting reset every shutdown. The red power button also immediately cut off after shutdown. So it was indeed the capacitor faulty. After repaired the capacitor, my setting still always reset even after i did upgrade to the latest firmware. I already gave up troubleshooting it, lol..

I'd choose the A129 over the mini0906. Build quality is much better.

I'd see that both using the same front sensor; however the rear camera differs.
Which one has better video quality? A129 or Mini0906?
*
The firmware on the A129 is not yet final for the launch date. But the beta firmware is looking very good.

Quality image more or less same. Dont view from this angle. A129 is latest and come with latest feature which most dual channel dashcam doesnt have.

1. Wifi- 2 frequency (2.4 ghz and 5 ghz).
2. Discreet concept of wedges design.

Actually, wedge and cylinder shape dashcams are both discreet designs. Which is more discreet is based on personal preferences laugh.gif

Dual band wifi on dashcams is not new. Most higher range dashcam is already using laugh.gif

I'm comparing both in terms of their video performance as seeing that both are using the same front sensor; major difference are the rear camera sensors and Viofo vs Mini's software imagery.

Wifi isn't much of a big selling point to me; but that's just my personal preference;

Discreet design is also down to personal preference. I find both are quite discreet in terms of design; the A129 is definitely the most stealthy looking type.

However, sometimes having a stealthy camera may not help in certain road rage situation after all; I'd prefer the design that's part stealthy but yet visible; stealthy enough that people won't steal, but visible in case if someone wants to pick a fight with you; I tend to notice that drivers tend to behave much more docile/tone-down once they've spotted their targeted car has a dashcam; hence they might back away from you and leaving you and your car unharmed.

If you have a stealthy dashcam however, aggressive driver may have already acted out and causes damage to your car, only then to realise (with regret) that you've been recording their actions and plan to take actions against them. Although the damages you've incurred can be claimed by insurance, however the damage is already done; seeing that there is a possibility that the whole scenario could've be prevented if the aggressor would've spotted your dashcam, and back away from you.

My 2 cents icon_idea.gif
*
Wifi to me, have or don't have is not a priority. I still prefer to take out the card and use an OTG reader and watch from phone or on my PC.

You can look at dashcams with security LED when recording like Thinkware. iRoad have it also but it's really bright to my preference.

QUOTE(Teddy Paddington Jr. @ May 18 2018, 05:51 PM)
So far the video quality does look good; I find that the A129's rear camera is much better than the Mini0906 at night;
It's a shame that they did not put the 1440p sensor from the A119 Pro into the A129; that combination would've been perfect.

Thanks for taking the time and write this review; I'm looking forward for your review update when Viofo's finalizes the A129 software/design smile.gif
*
Still testing the A129. Hopefully, I can get the retail pack next month to review.

+1

i agree on having dashcam as a DETERRENT to road ragers from picking fights with you.

Cannot as different GPS mount design on the A129. Now is slide to the right to remove the A129.

Hardwire kit is an optional item if not mistaken. Not sure yet as it's starting to sell next month.

Did you read my review in the 1st post? My review has the videos for front and rear cams.

Both the A129 and the rear cam is using Sony Starvis sensor.

And no you can't use the rear cam as a standalone unit as it will still require A129's processor and power to function as a whole unit.

Just heard the hardwire kit for the A129 will be different from the A119. Have 3 wires like what you will see on Korean dashcam.

Depends on the box that does voltage monitoring to prevent drain.

So.meaning it will come with battery B+, ground and ACC signal. So this will make is true parking hardwire kit with auto switching between ACC and Battery.

Did you read my review in the 1st post? My review has the videos for front and rear cams.

Both the A129 and the rear cam is using Sony Starvis sensor.

And no you can't use the rear cam as a standalone unit as it will still require A129's processor and power to function as a whole unit.

It's not recommended to use OBD port to power dashcams although it's very easy to do so.

If anything happens to the OBD port, then how?

Also, Viofo don't have OBD hardwire kit.

Yes 2 videos for front and rear.

I recommend minimum 64gb. 128gb is recommended.

A129 can use up to 256gb.

Understand from previous comment that depend on the voltage monitoring but anyone tested any dash camera with hardwire kit connected before? How is the feedback?

This depends. The A129 is new and everything is new. Won't be the same as A119.

yup. i knew but somehow current cpl still can use with slightly vignetting. its the slot position issue on the lens housing against the cpl rib. It wont be an issue if the cpl centralization with the lens housing.

To some that little bit of vignetting is a big annoyance.

Viofo has always listened to their testers around the world. That's how Viofo got where they are today.

Going over head lining cable management not that good and the balance length need to roll and hide it.

I still think floor board is better and neat. Just more work but safer and neat.

64 gb for dual channel only can get 4 hours recording time. Tim e to hunt 128gb since the price is going down.

Transcend product not cheap but its mlc no choice.

Silicone power also not cheap which i engaged before requested for reseller purely on high endurance microsd. Their price is compareable to transcend.

Netac P500 more likely similair with samsung evo plus.

Will test A129 with cpl front and rear tomorrow.

MLC is a good choice since all Korean dashcams swear by them for the reliability.

You should do your review for the A129 Duo since you sells it and can get the products faster than anyone here laugh.gif

hi blurjoey,

have you tried the hardwire+parking mode?
does it suffer from shutdown & memory corruption (missing files) like DDpai mini 3 due to overheating?
Interested to invest on this smile.gif

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/samsung-...bdZs9U&search=1 cheap! 128GB evo plus for RM149 drool.gif just got this to go along with the A129 when it arrives.

In any case, the bit rate for the new A129 is around 16.7Mbps, so with 2CH recording, it would have around 8.5 hours of recording time with the 128GB card right?

Each recorded file for 3 mins loop is 363mb front camera same goes to rear camera. So you will get 363 mb *2 file during 1080p 30 fps dual channel.

Thanks! So say 370MB for a 3min loop file, it needs around 7.23GB per hour per channel, or 14.5GB per hour for 2CH.

A 128GB card has around 119GB of real free space (128,000,000,000b), thus we would have a recording of around 8.2 hours for a 128GB card for 2CH.

Yeah around that since

32gb in A129 show total hours 2 hours ++
64gb in A129 show total hours 4 hours ++

Not yet as I'm waiting on the new 3 wires hardwire kit from Viofo. I do know a few cases of faulty capacitor causing corrupted last files but it's for A119 though.

My neighbor using mini3 with hardwire kit and parking. He hasn't experienced any overheating issue yet.

128GB is more than enough for A129 Duo. My A129 is recording 363MB per 3 mins file for both front and rear.

Viofo said A129 Duo can use 256GB laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Anyway Kintos have explained d laugh.gif

The GPS is included in the pack.

Gives more detail like speed traveled. Which route you have taken, etc etc.

Hi, interested in getting the A129. Just wondering, buying from Sicurez or Viofo's official website is cheaper? Is the hardwire kit included or we have to wait till hardwire kit released? Sicurez provided installation including hardwire or just for normal one? Thanks in advance.

Viofo official website cheaper but warranty if any issue will have headaches. Sicurez is the authorized Viofo distributor with 1 year 1-on-1 exchange warranty.

Hardwire kit usually is sold as an accessory. You'll need to contact Sicurez for more info about the installations.

Just a question out of the blues, I'm wondering why Mini USB is preferred over Micro USB for A129?

Any specification differences between the cable design?

The beeps on A129 is rather loud. As for the Wi-Fi app, I hope they let us change the settings without the need of stop recording. Hence the loud beeping to annoyingly reminds you that it's not recording.

It's designed that way. Even Korean dashcam stops recording when you enter settings.

The beeps are following end users feedbacks when there is a failure of not recording.

A129 it's a better choice if according to specs but loses to Thinkware's parking mode only.

A129 both cam is 1080p and using Sony Starvis sensor. F100 only front cam is 1080p and rear is 720p.

I've been wanting a reasonable dual-cam setup for some time. This looks as if it could meet most of my needs, plus the WiFi is a huge plus. So, it appears that we will need to snake a new USB cable from the front dashcam to the rear install, of course. Hope I can still hide that additional cable in the space I use behind the rear-view mirror, which would be ideal. Will also be interested to see how anyone with a hatchback installs this (mine would be in Subarua Forester and XV Crosstrek models.) TubeMate Psiphon Test DPC

New parking mode working method similair with mini0906. If used non correct hardwire kit, error will prompt out and unable to activate parking mode.

Ya agree. Need to wait viofo leverage the development and tooling cost to rest of the model.

Before pairing led lit as red color. After sucessful, pairing led will lit as blue color. Non water resistant button from the sample i have in my hand. Future im not sure whether it will improve to water resistant.

Not yet release. Viofo is doing final test on actual sample and in actual user environment. Some reviewer already received the actual sample for testing. My guess probable end of OCT.

The 3 wires hardwire is like those used in Korean dashcam. It provides power when the engine is off and power on when the engine starts. More for parking mode.

2 wires only provide power when the engine starts. Or tap wrongly, will provide power 24/7 laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

A119/s/pro have parking mode also but don't compare with the parking mode on Korean dashcams.

for A129, is it CPL lens it important?
my camera especially at night, when recording cars with LED/very bright type headlight, the video looks very silau & I can't read the registration number.

CPL is to reduce the reflections from the windscreen. Something like polarized sunglasses.

At night, the CPL will make the video slight dark than normal.

How about via the A129?

I usually take out the SD card and use a card reader on PC or my phone to read the card.

Easier way is format the card. It will deleted all file including RO folder.

The button can be select to unlock the locked file. Use the play mode on the camera A129.

Stop recording
Press sos button 1x
Navigation using arrow left/right to select the locked file
Press sos button 1x to select the locked file.
Press right arrow key to select lock and unlock the file.

Is it the official viofo a129 hardwire already available?
I'm having a problem with the camera setting especially the time, gps&captions on recorded video. The settings are always change& not correct. I need to set them everyday..maybe it is because of no continuous battery supply to the camera.
Any suggestions?

I dont think it is available yet.

Try this, make sure your time zone is correct +8 GMT, then you can sync your time with your phone via the app - settings - sync time (or something similar).

The issue you describe is probably unrelated to having power continuously.

See also if your cam offs immediately after the engine power is cut off, or a few seconds later.

Ensure timezone is correct setting +8. Then gps will auto correct it for you. No need to sync with phone. If your timezone setting is default. Meaning the gps will always reset to +0 timezone for your clock.

3 wire is released. Available on viofo website since last friday.

I dont claim the numbers to be fully accurate as you can probably see mine is already stuck on. So its going to be plus minus a few mm'

Extra tip : keep your cam mounted between those heating elements or you'll have a cam that cant see properly due to fog or mist

If the parking mode is not important then power using the USB car charger or install the 2 wires hardwire kit.

3 wires hardwire kit is required for the parking mode.

Yes Mini B, i think the rest of the cables are also the same.

Probably an acceptable trade-off since its 1080p instead of 720p.

The thick cable is the cons of the A129 Duo. Just imagine installing in the rear for SUV type of vehicles.

3 wires works as testers are testing the new beta firmware and 3 wires on their A129.

You can search in Youtube on how to install hardwire kit for dashcam. There is tons of it there. I learned how to install mine from there.

Finally got the A129 delivered today! Just checked the clearance for the rear cam...the rear shade when comes up hit it a little. But still can pass.. But will not use the holder.. Just put 3M tape directly on the rear cam.

Now can use my hardwire kit... It's been sitting on my desk for months.

Yesssss....at one point I have to double back using same path for the rear cable. Have to really peel back the panels to squeeze it in.

Biggest challenge was the hardwire part... But all settled.

I am impressed with the night video quality of the starvis.

Problem is the duration of my power pro...so far tested, only last an hour before it shuts off. Not sure why. Voltage set to 12.5v, maybe set to 12v?

from what I understand, most cars 12.1v is near minimum for it to crank. careful, you might have a flat battery soon

My parking mode for my dashcams is put on 12v and 48 hours settings.

But you'll need to consider your car battery condition also. Older car batteries don't last long like brand new car batteries.

In theory the battery should be able to sustain 2 days of recording because of the low current draw of the camera. But it does depends on the condition of the battery, if its properly taken care of, should not have issues.

I usually have it running only during office hours (9-10 hrs). At home i manually turn off the cam.

My battery already in it's 4th year. So far looks good at 12.5v. Will have an endurance test with 12v and see how far it goes.

BTW...How do you guys set your cam? Parking mode (15 fps) or motion detection. Parking mode speeds up recording and reduces the file size which is ideal for smaller sized mem card but with continuous recording.

Motion detection only records when an event happens (good that it doesn't record hours of useless video) BUT recording only kicks in after 5seconds?

15fps good for space saving.

Motion detection bad for heavily congested place.

Anyway I prefer motion detection.

My 3 wires hardwire kit and CPL is here. But not sure why the box says for A119 or A118c

The 5sec delay not a drawback for you? ppl might doink your car and ciaoz in 5secs...haha. I will test it out and see for a day.

I need a CPL for my rear cam...my read dash is white and my windscreen reflects the hell out of it. Let us know if it helps with yours.

Edit: how much for both items?

Need to test and see for my review the parking mode.

The CPL will reduce the glare but will need to factor in the camera angle, the color of the interior plastic, etc sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

I got these from Viofo for my review. The infrared camera is otw also after this week.

I was just wondering, is it possible to get some adapter to use merge with my existing setup.

Currently I'm using normal fuse piggyback with cigarette lighter extension. If I were to use this 3 wires hardware kit, I'll have to re-wiring everything again, which is something I am trying to avoid.

Any suggestion to merge the 3 wire kit and continue onto the cigar-USB cable setup?

I agree that motion detection is a better implementation for now as "parking mode" does not record sound which can be useful to identify the culprit in a busy spot.

I am assuming that your firmware is still stock? @WildChai If yes, you can look into upgrading it to F.W v 1.5 which has a low bit rate recording (meaning files are smaller - thus can record more without overwriting and records sound as well).

I have not tested it out yet.

Im not sure how in your case 5 seconds is long (if it indeed takes that long - i did not test it out to that extent) but generally speaking the cam has picked up people and cars from some distance thereby triggering it to start recording so maybe not that big of a deal as long as motion is detected within the field of view of the cam. I could be wrong though as your experience may vary.

Eg of motion detection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxGmEyEJjyo

Also sorry not delivering the pictures as I have been busy in college.

Nice installation by the way!

Question about GPS.

What is the point for the GPS? in my previous Mini 0906 model, there will be a file with time/location points that can be plotted on a map program.

But for viofo, it's just stamped into the video? No route tracking?

you can use 3rd party app to open the video footage, and the route will auto plot into the map.

Korean dashcam have prebuffering parking mode when using motion/g sensor mode.

When triggers, prebuffering actually have a few seconds of video before the trigger happens. So you can see what happened before the impact.

There is a suction mount for A119 but not for A129 as the mounting holes are different.

Anyway, this will defeat the purpose of the discreet design of the dashcam.

Bro, thanks for the heads up. So i assumed this A129 doesn't come with the suction cup mount. If i am to install the A129 behind the discreet rear mirror position i wouldn't be able to view the screen of the A129.

Another question - the screen on the A129 - is there any option/setting to select the display between front camera or rear camera?

Bro, thanks for the heads up. So i assumed this A129 doesn't come with the suction cup mount. If i am to install the A129 behind the discreet rear mirror position i wouldn't be able to view the screen of the A129.

Another question -  the screen on the A129 - is there any option/setting to select the display between front camera or rear camera?

You can still view the screen. Just angle your head a bit only laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

There is a button on the A129 to switch between PIP, front cam only and back cam only.

Bro, if i am to install A129 with the hard wiring for parking mode (with motion detection recording setting) what will be the impact on my car battery? Will it shortened the lifespan of the car battery significantly? Will it void the warranty if the car is still under manufacturer's warranty period? If there anyway i can have the parking mode without drawing power from the car battery? Also the parking mode does it include motion detection recording on the rear camera as well?

Usually, there will be some battery drain if using any dashcam with parking mode. But different dashcam got a different kind of drain whether it is little or a lot.

A car battery will need to know how old is the battery. Older batteries usually can't cope or last long like newer batteries.

Yes, the car manufacturer will say void warranty for whatever mods you do to your car. As long it is not factory installed, void warranty.

Use an external LiFePO4 battery to power the dashcam when the engine is off but this option is mostly Korean dashcams would have and not cheap. The battery will charge when the car is on.

A129 motion detection is not there yet like those on Korean dashcams. Best to use the timelapse parking mode for the time being until Viofo can improve their motion detection mode. Usually for both front and rear cams.

Bro thanks for the info. Am now considering A119s if rear cam and parking mode are not so important for my usage. Any advise on getting A119s instead of A129 other than the integrated rear cam and parking mode? I have checked A119s's price is now selling around RM390 on Lazada.

Yeah. If i dont use the ciggie ports in the middle, is kinda wasted.
Now i planning to buy a new A129 for my other car. Still considering whether to purchase directly from Viofo or Sicurez. Sicurez is more expensive by US$25 if compared to Viofo official site but i do not need to worry about warranty. I have claim warranty from Viofo directly before. It was kind of tedious and i have to pay the shipping fee to China. But at least i received back my a119v2 and the Viofo PIC which i communicate with was quite helpful and responsive.

Yeah. Have pay for postage to send back to China and all. And the wait to send and receive back the item is another thing.

I claimed before a few times with sellers in China. 2 months wait time laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Anyway, Viofo fixed the price for the distributor here to sell at rm799. Cannot lower due to last time some sellers cut-price like crazy during sales.

But at least Sicurez includes installation when you get from them and the 1 year 1on1 exchange warranty is good.

Anyway City is easy to DIY install. I'm driving City V spec also laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Should be no problem.

Last time i bought from Banggood.com. But i contacted Viofo official website. I only need to showed them the online invoice and someone handled my case. The Viofo staff was quite helpful. The only thing u need to be aware is u need to fork out money to pay for the shipping fee to China and it may take a while.

If you buy direct from Viofo official store, they will provide 1 year warranty but you'll need to ship the A129 back to China to claim warranty. Shipping back and forth might take 2-3 months.

Some online sellers selling cheaper price usually provide no warranty or 6 months warranty only.

There is a distributor for Viofo in Malaysia, Sicurez, they provide 1 year 1-on-1 exchange warranty. But their price is locked as Viofo's guidelines.

Local distributor have to follow the price fixed by Viofo. That's why more expensive.

Usually those cheaper price is those from grey importers which is not authorized by Viofo. Usually don't have warranty and not able to claim warranty directly from Viofo.

I think Viofo fixing the price is one thing, but at least local distributor can make it more attractive by providing free installation.
Actually while reading this forum, I made a wrong interpretation of "free installation". Just found out that installation was not free but with RM 100 charges.
But since I already went to the shop, I just paid to install my unit.

There's nothing wrong with the installation charges, but what I'm saying is, if the distributor claim that Viofo force them to sell at RM 799 without any discount, then at least they can provide free installation to compensate for that.

With installation plus memory card 64GB, I paid RM 1k which is a bit expensive IMO

Nowadays nothing much is free.

You do know that free installation is usually not free as the cost is already bundled into the total cost?

You can save $ when buy online and DIY install. I think can save rm300+++. But will have to do everything yourself like claim warranty directly with Viofo in Shenzhen, read the manual to learn how to use, etc.

Most of my installations is DIY and micro SD cards is bought from Lazada, Shopee, Aliexpress, etc.

Anyway the above my 2sen only.

I agree with you and I understand, it's too much hassle to DIY moreover I'm not a DIY guy. Also installation incur time cost for distributor as well.

What I'm saying is just that the "fixed price" can't really be an excuse given by distributor that Viofo is very strict that they can't give any discount. Free or cheaper Installation itself can compensate for that.

As I've said I've mistakenly thought the difference was 100++ with free installation but you clearly pointed out the difference could be up to RM 300, then it's a good reference for those who haven't bought to consider this.

The fixed priced by Viofo is real eventhough they don't forced their distributor to follow them but the distributors risk losing the distributorship.

I've seen it happened before to Gearbest during Viofo A119 time. Gearbest was selling the A119 super cheap (about rm200+) till Viofo told them to stop and revoked their rights to sell any Viofo dashcams on their site.

Those you see selling very cheap online, they get their stock from 3rd party suppliers which out of Viofo's control so they no need to follow the fixed price set. Those usually have little to no warranty eventhough you contact Viofo directly.

Anyway is a risk to take. Want to save $, buy cheap online. Want warranty, buy from authorized shop.

I've already receive my Viofo A129 together with the Parking wiring

can you recommend the method for the parking?

there are two ways for the installation, correct?

1. direct to battery and GND, ACC

2. other method through fuse tapping.

which would you suggest?

Fuse tapping will be easier with fusetaps. Same as 1. ACC, Batt and grounding.

Looks like 2019 Viofo A129 uses Novatek NT96670 chipset.

And the new firmware now support High Efficiency Video Coding H.265 HEVC compression.

My chipset is the NT96663 unit. Hopefully it's able to support H.265 as well.

Firmware or hardware issues?

Would like to know what issues you're facing. I may have come across it too.

Yes, IR (infrared) cam for internal cabin recording. Great for Grab drivers. Don't have the rear cam.

Waiting for my review unit to arrive soon.

There is another new model, A129 Pro, coming soon also but in the testing stage now.

As promised my report. It's a very disappointing unit IMO, as I paid 1k, which is still not cheap. I don't mind some issues, but I've great concern when no recording but beep sound not working. This defeats the purpose of dash cam, I could easily missed some critical footage.

I'm not sure how to claim for warranty or repair, because issues happen occasionally, so it's very hard to prove my claim.

Imagine the recent "Abong Botak" case happened, and thought everything recorded but it was not. Or worst, maybe hit someone who breaks red light, causing serious injury or death, but notice it was not recorded, hence unable to prove innocence.

1) Failed to record (once)
- parking mode on with 1fps
- first parked my car, everything recorded
- then drove the car, driving footage all recorded too
- parked at another location, this time the parking footage was not recorded (parking mode still on)
- started engine, then realised recording light was blinking. No beep sound.
- screen was black, unable to turn on screen, pressed all keys (long press, short press etc) but no response from unit at all. Connect wifi to phone, wifi connection successful, but unable to "connect to camera" from the app.
- drove back, reached home, unplug all cables and plug everything again, then it's working again

2) Failed to record (twice)
- parking mode on with 5fps
- parked my car, stop engine, unit turned on with both lights stable (which means recording in parking mode activated)
- after work, start engine and drove back (didn't check the recording)
- when reached home, only realised red light blinking. Checked back recording, both parking and journey home was not recorded.
- no beep sound to indicate that recording was not done during driving
- bought a new memory card, and it happened again, similar scenario

3) Unit hang (twice)
- unit hang, unable to press any button
- then only realise can restart unit, then after restart back to normal

Can you to test with the parking mode off and see? Seems like the parking mode causing the issue here.

Also, where did you buy the A129? If you have bought the A129 from Sicurez, you can report to them and they will help you troubleshoot on the issue.

Suspect parking mode too, but doesn't always happen so not sure how long I will need to test without having mode.

Bought from Sicurez, yeah probably will check with them when have time, only concern very troublesome, have to send back to them, not sure if have to leave my unit there and how long they will take to find out the problem. That will leave me without any dash cam.

I would say software still so buggy, not sure if others face the same problem.

Hi, can you snap shot me your list of your video clip using the apps?
And your firmware version.

Where is your location? Not recording beeping alert sound can be disable through the setting. You might have turned it off.

I used to have the same exact issue. Parking mode recording not working only to realized it hangs my camera when I try to download my recording.

What I did was to re-download the firmware and reset default twice. reconfigure again and test for 24 hours. Working ever since.

Cannot guarantee if it works for you but least you could try the solution I did.

Another way update/flash the firmware and factory reset the a129 duo and set it again.

https://support.viofo.com/support/solutions...sh-cam-firmware

V1.5 firmware is latest

Sicurez said they'll give a temporary unit for you to use while they troubleshoot your unit.

Thanks all, I'll try factory reset first and flash the latest firmware and see if it works.
For beep alert, it's not the settings, alert is enabled. Whenever I access the app and stop the recording, the beep alert is working. So I really unsure why the few occasions no warning for the failure to record the footage.

I always do that, in fact in switch on and off everyday (not sure if that will somehow affect the device becoming unstable, but it shoudn't).

Because when I reach home, I will disable the parking mode, then when I reach office, I will enable it again. So quite troublesome, I have to switch on and off everyday

So bro, do you mean you are using wifi connection to turn ON and OFF for the parking mode everyday using the phone apps?

Do you mind to stop using apps to change the setting if what i assume as above is correct. Just for monitoring till you send back to your seller.

Pmed me bros, if you are in klang valley. I can come look for you and check the unit. I have demo unit for you to try.

I'm not sure how bad the parking mode will affect my car battery, that's why I turn it off when parked at home, because my house is gated so I don't need the parking mode on.

For owners using the A129 Duo's parking mode, turn off the wifi when not in use and not leave it on always. It will burn the wifi module very fast.

But warranty only 1 year right? After 1 year koyak liao very troublesome

I mentiond before that I keep turning on and off wifi (to enable and disable parking mode) as I posted earlier due to wanting to "save" the car battery when park at home (gated). Now with this risk of damaging the wifi, I really wonder, shall I just keep the parking mode running round the clock, and will it really shorten my car battery a lot

Their WiFi module isn't the good type to begin with. File transfer with 2.4ghz and 5ghz no speed difference. I may as well stick to 2.4ghz. Peak at 72mbps transfer speed, and that's a very poor bandwidth.

If you're using the Viofo parking 3 wire kit, it should cut off upon detecting the low voltage of your battery. Well, that's the safety cut off to begin with. hmm.gif

Sicurez told me to set the cut off at 12.4V just to be safe.

Also, I prefer to take out the micro SD card and use an OTG card reader that I store in my car to watch on my phone. Wifi too slow and sometimes the stream quality is not that clear.

Agree on the 12.4v as well. The higher the better, lower risk of draining the car battery to lower Voltage.

The WiFi module for A129 has room for improvement on hardware level. I guess that's the downside of the WiFi stability of A129.

Hi! I read some reviews suggested that the WDR should be turned OFF. May i know why? I thought this function is good to be turned ON?

May i know what are the recommended settings for G-Sensor and Boot Delay?

For WDR, some people like it and some people don't. So you'll need to see which you prefer.

Boot delay I put 0. G-sensor I put mid sensitivity.

WDR is a double edge sword feature. On some condition, it's providing too much contrast or over-brightness of your recording.

Hence you may need to evaluate and review the recording a few times to suit your taste. For my case I leave it on, since I'm happy with the results recorded since Day 1 purchase.

My G-sensor is on low due to pot holes / bumpers / uneven roads in Klang Valley area. (I know right?) Wouldn't want too many false alarm recording and beepings......

Boot delay - 0 seconds.

I tried using default medium but sometimes pot holes itself trigger it. So I just leave it low.

As long as the G-sensor is on. Haha

One more question... If my loop recording is 3 min, when i press the Emergency Recording button, the recording will be locked 3 min only or will continue to lock until i press it again to unlock it? Do i need to unlock it?

Hi all,

Just got my A129 (bought with hardwire kit) to replace my A119 in May but just managed to install it a couple weeks back. Talked to my serrvice center guys, they said fuse-tapping will void warranty, so not sure if I should continue hardwiring it. a friend suggested using portable battery instead but with our heat I don't think that's a good idea.

So, my question is:
A) does your car's warranty void if you hardwire it, even using fusetaps?
B) any alternative suggestion for parking mode other than hardwire?

Technically fuse tapping will void the car warranty upon on SC standards. It's a gray line area.

A - yes it does but most car manufacturer. But I'm not sure on BMW since they have their OEM dashcam installed as optional.
B - powerbank but you've gotta be hardworking to remind yourself on charging / replacing it from time to time.

1) Yes, all car manufacturers say the same thing. By right, fuse tapping is just piggyback on the fuse slot and won't burn the ECU as some SC claims. Fuse taps have own fuse.
2) A battery pack that uses lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO 4 battery) not lithium ion but not cheap. About rm1k+ for the battery pack which is charged by the ciggie port.

I heard that the installer for the BMW dashcam will cut the wires to install not fuse tap sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Actually, now warranty will void according to them, not because everything connects to ecu, its because it is not sold by them. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Can't wait for the A129 Buffered Parking mode to be introduced in the upcoming firmware. Currently still on BETA firmware 1.8
Looks promising from the DCT forums. More and more people testing it.

I just got my A129 duo installed. I’m facing issue on the rear camera video quality because the recording view can see a few blur horizontal lines due to the heating conductor lines... but in bro @blurjoey’s video couldn’t see it. Is it because the tinted firm of my car got problem? But in actual visual can’t notice it.... I’m not sure if I can get away with that by adjusting the rear angle of the camera... will try it tml...

I just noticed that my car with start stop engine feature, the dash cam will enter parking mode when the engine shuts itself. Then when the engine is back up running, it will revert back to normal recording.

I'm not sure if i did the hardwire kit correctly or not.

Sorry I think I meant the during driving. When my engine stops in traffic dashcam switch to motion mode instead of continuous running normal recording mode.

Perhaps I should find another fuse slot, maybe cigarette lighter spot.

Yes, Viofo has fine-tuned the A119v3 to have better image quality.

Viofo A119v3's 1600p vs Thinkware F800 Pro's 1080p sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif RM400+- vs RM2K+- sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

The Thinkware F800 Pro is a dual dashcam. Also featurewise is more than the A119v3.

Thanks for the feedback bro. Actually I was referring to this review:

I plan to buy F800 for front & rear but after watching that review made me think twice.

This is my first dashcam. My criteria are just image quality & gps. I don't really mind parking features though.

Viofo A119v3 is very clear and currently the best single cam with buffered parking mode when used with HK3 hardwire kit.

You can look at A129 Pro Duo if you're looking for front & rear. It's true 4K with buffered parking mode. Review here: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=4826786 & https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=4853331

The video review is comparing Q800 Pro which is a 2K dashcam. Not F800 Pro which is 1080p. Q800 Pro is known to have not so great video quality until Thinkware releases a new firmware that fixes this.

But note that Thinkware dashcam is known for its true parking mode, accurate ADAS, Smart Camera Alerts, and Cloud features. Buying Thinkware is more for the overall package than video quality alone.

BTW blurjoey, does SanDisk High Endurance 128GB sdcard works good in A129 Duo? Because yesterday the camera just freeze with screen on, need forcing it to power off and on then everything work again....

Latest version, low bitrate parking mode.

Hi all gurus,

After reading some threads for the past few nites, which will you guys recommend for dual dah cams ?
1) VIOFO A129 Duo cam with hardwire (parking mode) (Not the 4k)
2) mini 0906
3) Sipii SP200 (dual cam)

It's my first dashcam, im not too sure which to invest on. Eventually given up on 70mai due to lithium battery issue.

Thanks all! notworthy.gif

If budget constraint, go for mini0906 but wait a bit as mini0906 Pro is coming soon in a few week's time.

Recommended getting the Viofo A129 Duo if you can.

Not sure about SIPII SP200 but from the specs it is not a true 4K dashcam as it is recording in 4K@24fps (upscaled resolution) if using front cam only. Dual is 1080p for both cams. GPS module not included.

Do u know what's the main diff for the coming mini 0906 Pro?

Which site u will rec to get Viofo A129 (local seller) with warranty?
The Hardware kit will be needed if I need to use power supply from car battt right ?

Or will the mechanic st car accessories shop able to do that ? (Without me buying the additional hardwire kit)

New sensors in the 0906 Pro if not mistaken.

If you worry about warranty then get from Sicurez as they are the local distributor. They also do installations for Viofo for a fee.

You only need to buy and use the Viofo HK3 hardwire kit if you want to use the parking mode. It would be a waste to get it and just use it to record when you start your car.

Just use the USB car charger to power the A129 Duo if you don't require parking mode.

Installation, any trusted car accessories can do so long no wire cutting or wire tapping.

Finally got it replaced on friday, the replacement unit is definitely clearly and sharper than the faulty one, and the seller is very responsibility told me to set 12.4v on 3-wire kit, if not pull the power cable when seldom using the car.

About the overheat, doesn't it turn off when too hot? Instead of freeze until user manually power off the camera???

Memory card is the latest one, sold by sandisk official store at shopee. 128GB one

Thank you~

My device stop runs recording every 3 mins even engine is off. I thought it should be recording only if there is any motion detected ?

Kindly advice. smile.gif Much thanks! x

If every 3 mins stop recording and need manually press start recording, please check loop recording setting. Default setting is loop every 3 mins. Setting have off, 1,3 & 5 for selection.

If you want the recording to continue record without creating every 3mins file, please set the loop recording to 'off'.

Parking mode set it to motion detection in parking mode setting.

Motion Detection: When activated, the camera will start recording if there is movement in front of the camera. Once the camera does not detect movement for 60 seconds, it stops recording and returns to “Motion Detection” mode. The camera will record again in the time of detecting a new movement.

Read here: https://www.viofo.com/en/blog/advanced-buff...g-mode-b22.html

Also, set the cutoff voltage at 12.4v to be on the safe side.

Hmm either one of us misunderstood his meaning. His statement mentioned stop every 3mins even engine is off. Have to wait him respond. He's new in dashcam.

Cheap if it's with local warranty!

Don't think it includes the micro SD card and the hardwire kit?

Hardwire kit 2 wire or 3 wire type?

Then hard to said whether it's cheap. You can refer and compare on e-commerce platform and add those item into cart. You will get the price to compare

Labour installation usually rm100-180.

If not using parking mode, you can opt 2 wire type is sufficient. 3 wire will be overkill for you if not intend to use parking mode.

2 wire is slightly cheaper than 3 wire's type.

What I mean was, is the setting correct to have the dashcam keep videoing never engine is off ?
Each video is about 3mins.

Because all along I thought it will start recording when there's a bang or crash (during parking mode)

Can you watch the videos and see if it is in fast forward motion? If yes then you have it recording in timelapse mode when parked.

A129 Duo now has buffered parking mode. It will record something when motion is detected or impact is detected. 10 secs before and 10 secs after the motion/impact detected.

Nope it's not in fast fwd motion. Normal playback.
Do you guys have the same recording files like this ? If it's normal then I'll be glad.

I've set to Auto Event Detection & set to low sensitivity.

I have some questions sometimes when I open the door I can hear beep sound and rec light flashing. It will turn off when I press the button. Is that normal? Another thing when I check back the recordings got some parking videos only not until I drive the car next morning. Is that bcz it auto off after battery colt reach 12.4?
I tried to test parking mode g sensor by shaking the car from outside free times. But it didn’t record any videos... pls enlighten me

Um... If parking mode is important to you, should have went straight with Thinkware dashcam instead of A129.

Viofo's buffered parking mode is not 100% prefect like Thinkware dashcam. But it is the 1st China dashcam manufacturer to get buffered parking mode to work almost like Thinkware's.

Another thing, check what firmware are you using? Heard new firmware has some fixes for parking mode.

I am worried about removing the camera from windscreen as it might be hard to attach it back. As per instruction said ‘ Insert the card in the camera and connect it to the computer using a USB cable.’

Or can i just take out the memory card?

You can take out the micro SD card and copy the firmware into it using a PC. Then insert it back into the A129 then power on and wait for it to update.

You'll need to setup again the A129 as after firmware update will reset the A129 back to factory defaults.

It’s not at Sizurez so definitely not authorised I think. But I get good deal (I think so) rm840 plus high endurance sandisk 128gb and installation. Btw today I found this notification when want to start my car after parking. The exclamation sign like the photo attached. It goes off after a while.

Think you better ask the seller as I didn't test the parking mode extensively as it failed the low voltage for me during review.

The rear cam is controlled by the front cam. The rear camera cable is 6m long.

The GPS info can be turned off in the settings.

If you haven't read the 1st post, Viofo dashcams all is using supercapacitors and not battery. So there is no power after you off the engine.

Only way to continue recording aka parking mode is to use with the HK3 hardwire kit.

Try changing it on the A129 settings and see. There is 2 options - Custom text stamp and car license number.

Best to put the cable behind the airbag or route the cable to go below instead of the A pillar if can
