Hmm... How is it cheaper by offload to a third party partner?
*
Servers/CDN/Tech and Customer support/localisation (dubbing/subtitles/local shows) are handled by third party rather than Disney directly

QUOTE(khainiz94 @ Jun 5 2021, 02:21 PM)
I think 4K TVs have been the norm in Malaysia thanks to the flood of cheap 4K TVs come to MY.
*
I totally disagree. Even I haven't bought a 4K tv yet since I feel it's useless for what medium I am consuming right now vs the price (and yes, RM1.5K is still too expensive for me to justify the purchase). Even Malaysians who are using HDTV are still relying on RCA cables and can't even differentiate between HD and 520p. And as a reminder, Klang Valley != whole of Malaysia. You would likely see people using the much cheaper 768p panel TV the more you travel outwards from Klang Valley

In the end it's Disney who don't feel the rest of SEA other than Singapore is worth investing time for.

- For Starter Pack and Value Pack customers, you can add RM7.50 to enjoy Disney+ Hotstar. Not necessary have to subscribe to Movies pack to enjoy the entitlement from Astro.
*
I am on Value Pack and I was never given this option for RM7.50. I was offered either to subscribe to the Movie Pack + RM5.00 or pay the normal RM55 for 3 months

EDIT: Seems to be only offered if you subscribe again to the VALUE PLUS PACK. Which means another 2 year of contract. So yeah, nope for me

I see... so  linkinstreet  issue is that he don't want to be tied up with a 2 years contract?
It is not about the monthly charges  cool2.gif

Once Fox cease to operate, I might want to drop Astro since I usually watch Fox Sports (F1/MotoGP) and NatGeo (moved to Disney+). So it's not really worth it to be tied 2 more years

Trying out sooka but the fps is really awful while watching on TV and having constant lag issue for live sports
*
Yeah, this is the reason why I don't use Astro Go, and still have that white Unifi TV box, because both Astro and Unifi use 25FPS for their streaming service. Can't blame them much tho, it does save a bit of bandwidth without sacrificing overall quality.

QUOTE(joshhd @ Jun 12 2021, 08:56 PM)
I remember back in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, when I stream the dedicated FIFA World Cup channels on Astro Go, it is shown as butter smooth 50fps on my device.
At first I thought, "Eh, all Astro SuperSport channels are in 50fps on Astro Go now?"
So when I stream the usual Astro SuperSport channels, hmm, it is still in the normal 25fps.  sweat.gif
Since FIFA World Cup 2018, I never come across any 50fps content to stream over Astro Go platform. Correct me if I'm wrong?  sweat.gif

So from what I see is, Astro can decide to encode the sports channel stream in 50fps on Astro Go platform. It's just a matter whether they want it or not only.
Cuz higher frame rate ultimately means higher encoding power = higher bitrate = more money to pay

We all want the good good stuff, but when it comes to money, hmmmm....  mega_shok.gif
It's like that one lahhhh  blush.gif
*
IIRC the previous Astro Go WAS 50FPS. The one where you are only limited to using Chrome and there was this weird plugin you need to download beforehand. It was after they moved to this new Widevine supported streaming site that they lowered down to 25FPS.

So ,how about 4 minutes delay ?
Not Astro ?

Depends on channel. IIRC for some channels these are done to inject their own adverts (for example WWE Network has their own advert Astro will use these time to cut them out and replace them with local instead)

The Korean Drama Series - [ Voice 4]

Astro's censorship really NOT play play one.
Firstly I thought it out-focus during watching on TV through On Demand, after checking on PC, it is censor & it just a knife!

It's actually censored from Korea. I usually download from *ahem* sites direct from Korea and they are also blurred

Plug and Play box
It came with a new version remote.

Basically it is same box as Ultra HD with a dedicated sim card.

The only different is the current firmware allow you to choose IPTV during initial setup.

Wait, if I remember that Astro Software Updates uses satellite, how did they uses Internet to perform auto update?

And also, is this the update that occurs when you turn on your box for the first time?
*
This is Plug and Play box kan? So I presume Astro has modified it to solely use Internet

Has anyone tried using the Plug & Play Ultra Box multi room in another address? I guess the only way they can or will detect is they realise the IP address keeps changing?
*
They can't say a changge of IP address = change of location since our ISP/Telco don't give a fixed IP address to their customers. Heck, if you are using Digi, sometimes the IP they give me will show my location is in Sarawak instead of peninsular.

Someone from Hong Kong on Reddit emailed Formula One Management about the F1 coverage for APAC after the loss of Fox Sports, and it seems that it will continued under Disney (Hotstar similar to India) or local provider that previously carried Fox Sports (Astro in the case for Malaysia)

Possible ESPN really come back on October?

IIRC this has been for more than a year and it's due to centralised rebranding of sports, and was earlier than the decision to close down the Fox channels.
