During my time with HD or PVR Box, no experience or notice of this satellite signal change.
*

Like I said, "...for a period of time" .
If your box has been continously SCNA for a period of time, especially rebooting the box several times, then this would happen.

If it's rain interruption, where you experience SCNA for a while, then of course this won't happen.

Hmm, I’ve tried unplugging and repluging the satellite cable, didn’t really notice that’s it’s coming lose, signal strength still goes to 0 after a while(not sure what causes it/ can’t tell the pattern at the moment) sweat.gif
*

So it seems that the cable connector is somewhat loose? Try re-terminate the cable, and see if issue persists.
Or re-terminate with a new F connector.

If you can do it yourself, and the issue solves, then congrats, you've successfully saved RM65. smile.gif

Separately, is DCSS lnb needed for ultra box now?
*

It's been a while that DCSS LNB is no longer mandatory for Ultra Box.
Today, both Universal LNB and DCSS LNB can be used on Ultra Box.

QUOTE(Zot @ Dec 12 2023, 08:54 AM)
I called Astro yesterday regarding the 24 month contract. When you talk to different person you can get different understanding.

When I said I do not want auto-renew the lady said after the contract finished the new rate would be RM170+ from mine now at RM160+. She told me that the special rate is for the person under contract. If don't want the contract it would be higher. It seems like if you stay under auto-renew contract you get special discounted rate.

When I told her that I want to terminate the service because it is getting more expensive, she told me that she will transfer me to another section. The lady in this termination section said she will flag my subscription that mine would be no more auto-renew at the then of the contract which is in Jan 25 2024 for now. She told me that I would need to call back before Feb 25 to terminate the service. Meaning that after contract expired end of Jan 25 I can call to terminate the service not to get penalty.

I asked if I terminate on say 10 or 15th of Feb would I be charged proportionately. She said call like 1 day before Feb 25. I asked if that meant no matter when I terminate the service I will be charged for a full month service. She confirmed that. She told me that the rate for Astro service has increased slightly and that the current rate I get for RM160+ is just because it is the discount for new subscription under contract and once the contract expire the rate will go up regardless. Now this is different story. from my understanding.

What I understood from you previously that if you if you want zero contract, you need to pay extra monthly. By default you will be under auto-renew and get discounted subscription.  rclxub.gif

Well, at least I have notified Astro the lady said my service has been flagged off for auto-renew  laugh.gif

QUOTE(Erozenin @ Dec 12 2023, 12:35 PM)
Hi. I recently applied for a plug n play ultra box without knowing what i will get after clicking the button (it only shows 'im interested' button), just to see if i have options. I clicked, nothing happened. Next week my kampung received a parcel that is ultra box plug n play. I went back just to help install it, by following the manual. I am currently on Astro Super Pack + (old PVR box with 2 white cables), and it seems the contract is not renewed after I received the new ultra box. The problem is this: My kampung has no fibre support, so i used telco internet in a router for this purpose. Means, my astro is on internet but i managed to get 100mbps for this. However, i installed the ultra box using plug n play, and i think this will not be sustainable since it does buffering from time to time, and upon calculation, will use around 900gb per month just for astro. After reading this sub, i tried resetting and installing via satellite mode (i took the sat cr cable from old pvr and connect it to the ultra box). The sat signal is good (above 80), and I managed to get receptions. However, a lot of basic channels are not available (it says 'please subscribe) even for channel 104, 501, 502. And certain UHD channels are unavailable due to my old Hisense TV (HD only). I dont have issues with UHD, but why do I have to subscribe for these basic channels even though i am still on a top tier legacy pack? I asked the Astro helpline, but he told me to reset box by clearing the NVRAM, and re install via satellite. The problem still persist after following this steps. I even tried refresh the ultra box in the MyAstro app, still the problem persists.

TLDR: using astro ultra box plug n play, installed using satellite (tried dcss, sat cr, universal), but a lot of channels missing. Dcss / universal - missing channels, universal - blank screen).
*

Okay. So you just want to share your encounter with us, or you are looking for a solution to this matter?

Just to understand you better:
1) Do you aware that you will be getting a "Plug & Play" Box before clicking I'm Interested?
2) Do you know how their "Plug & Play" works?
3) Do you know that their "Plug & Play" service will make your existing Astro satellite dish to become useless?

Looks like all the confusion is just because price hike. Those under contract are just enjoying discounted price which will be increased to latest package price upon contract expiry right?

Now, my understanding is. once the contract expired, you will not be under contract anymore unless you change package and this trigger new contract, right? So, what was the auto-renewal of contract was all about?  hmm.gif

By right, if you're able to pull out the F connector easily from the cable, then you should re-terminate the cable already.
For best results, use a new F connector instead. You can buy it online, like this one: https://shp.ee/fjc94i6
Select "F Type connector"

Astro made history with the first live sports broadcast in Dolby Atmos & Dolby Vision, along with UHD.
Err, Dolby Vision? Okay.... When I was watching Astro SuperSport 806 during that live football match, I get HLG HDR, NOT Dolby Vision... sweat.gif
So where did they "broadcast" that Dolby Vision version of the live football match, or where can the viewers watch that football match in Dolby Vision HDR? hmm.gif
Or that "Dolby Vision" is a misleading term they use to represent "HDR", where actually they didn't even use that standard for the live broadcast in the first place? sweat.gif

Anyone knows which pay TV operators outside Malaysia out there where viewers can watch that live football match in UHD + claimed to be Dolby Vision HDR?
Cuz so far what I know is, only Malaysia Astro that broadcasts that live football match in 4K UHD quality.

Netflix at ultra also cannot support dolby vision.
What made piala malaysia match is under dolby vision?

Btw, assthrow can say.. yes they broadcasted in dolby vision but ultra cannot support so you cannot get dolby vision.
*

So is it safe to say that, they can afford to pay royalties to initiate the live sports match broadcast in Dolby Vision, but can't afford to pay royalty fees for each and every Ultra Box out there to support Dolby Vision? sweat.gif
Therefore, maybe that football match is actually available in Dolby Vision, but end up that is being stored in their archive recordings, where no one else can enjoy that HDR version of football match except the behind-the-scenes production crew?

Astro in the red with net loss of RM47.05m in Q3
https://www.facebook.com/malaymaildotcom/po...F8GQovigg3qSTcl
QUOTE
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 — Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd turned red with a net loss of RM47.05 million during the third quarter (3Q) ended October 31, 2023, compared to a net profit of RM5.80 million in the corresponding quarter last year.

Revenue narrowed to RM828.55 million from RM885.39 million previously, dragged by a reduction in subscription revenue, partially offset by an increase in advertising revenue and licensing income, it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today.
QUOTE
“As previously announced, in 3Q FY2024 Astro completed a voluntary separation scheme (VSS) programme, another key delivery within our ongoing programme to transform the legacy cost base.

“As a result of the exercise, the company reduced headcount by 20 per cent. The cost of this exercise, RM52 million, is booked in this quarter and estimated payback will be under a year,” he said.

In addition, Smith said the group also exited the home shopping business so that its resources could be invested into the business lines that are delivering growth.
Astro Malaysia pushes ahead with transformation

QUOTE
Moving forward, Astro says investments are firmly focused on its long-term and sustainable growth that will included improved content production, growing its adjacent businesses and transforming legacy cost structures to reflect the realities of the local Pay-TV market, which mirrors global trends.

"Ongoing strength of the US dollar continues to impact cost lines in our business, whilst local economic conditions (exacerbated by geopolitical factors) and softening customer sentiments also present challenges with regard to revenue growth.

"In response, we are introducing more affordable product entry points to drive product signups and support customers," it said.
Astro skids to record low after posting first quarterly loss; RM2b market cap wiped off since March
https://www.facebook.com/theedgemalaysia/po...dL31r97Hc8u6YZl
QUOTE
KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 15): Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd’s share price headed south on Friday morning, hitting a record low of 35 sen, after the pay-TV group posted its first quarterly loss, which was deemed disappointing by investment analysts.

The stock slumped to a low of 35 sen in early trade, down 4.1% or 1.5 sen from the previous day’s close of 36.5 sen. At the time of writing on Friday, the counter had pared its losses to hit 35.5 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM1.85 billion.

Astro’s share price has fallen 51.7% from a high of 73.5 sen on March 17, evaporating about RM1.99 billion in market capitalisation.
QUOTE
No dividend was declared for the current quarter under review, marking the second consecutive quarter of no dividend for Astro's shareholders, after the group in September revised its dividend policy to make yearly payouts from its consolidated profit after tax and non-controlling interests. Astro previously made dividend payments on a quarterly basis.
QUOTE
Following the release of the quarterly results, Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd downgraded its recommendation on the stock to "underperform" from "market perform", while Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) also downgraded its call to "sell" from "hold", Bloomberg data showed.

*

OK wait, don't call Astro first. Need you to provide this info so that I can advise further:

1) Press home>Settings>Satellite Settings>LNB Setup, change the "LNB Type" setting to "Universal".
Then Next, Next, Finish.

Then tune to these channels, and let me know what do you see on your TV for all these channels below:

CH122, CH124, CH305 = Can watch as usual / Switch to Continuous Viewing / Services Currently Not Available
CH549, CH805 = Can watch as usual / Services Currently Not Available / Unable to Play Video (HDCP Video Failed)

2) Press home>Settings>Satellite Settings>LNB Setup, change the "LNB Type" setting to "DCSS".

QUOTE(Kopistall @ Dec 16 2023, 05:18 PM)
The worst thing about astro is during bad weather no signal, can't believe it's still happening since the first astro dish launches
*
QUOTE(pokemon @ Dec 16 2023, 05:27 PM)
It is inevitable for rain fade as the signal Ku it is using.
That's why ultrabox is introduced.  but it is a crappy box.
*
QUOTE(Kopistall @ Dec 16 2023, 05:36 PM)
I'm thinking to cancel my subscription next year. Now mostly watching yiffy TikTok YouTube to spend my time.
*

Unfortunately, that is the nature of Ku band satellite (pronounced as "K" "U", not literally "ku").
Almost all satellite pay TV providers around the world uses Ku band satellite frequency (above 10GHz), and Astro is no exception to this.
Therefore, whenever there's bad weather, confirm will lose signal one, and that can never avoided on consumer end. Even decades or hundreds years later, it will still be the same.
That's the physics of it that can't be escape. For this part, hope that clarifies ya.

That's why today Astro Ulti Box and Ultra Box has this particular feature:
Whenever the Ulti/Ultra Box detects no satellite signal (e.g. heavy rain), a popup message appears, prompting you to switch to Internet streaming to continue watch the TV channel. This is to allow you to continue watching the TV channel you were watching.
This feature, they called it "Continuous Viewing".
user posted image
Note:
- This feature is for Astro satellite dish customers only. Not applicable for Plug & Play customers.
- Ulti/Ultra Box must be connected to the Internet (WiFi or LAN cable) for this feature to work.
- It will automatically switch back to satellite dish reception as you tune to other channel.

Or, if you don't like to manually toggle it like this every time when bad weather occurs, or you don't want this weather interruption to interrupt your TV viewing ever again, and prefer it to go 100% Internet streaming and ditch away your satellite dish, yes it is possible. You can go for Plug & Play mode for your Ulti/Ultra Box.
But I must remind you that the reliability and overall experience of their Plug & Play (Internet streaming) service isn't going to be exactly the same as what you can get today from a satellite dish reception (put aside the weather interruption).

====

If you are on Astro's legacy package, they have a campaign now that offers free box upgrade to either Ulti Box or Ultra Box (depending on your package tier), with no additional fees and no contract, simply cater for customers like you, so that you won't think of terminating Astro.

If dcss, 805 and 549 cannot watch (scna), the rest can watch.

Your help will be much appreciated bro.
*

If that's the case, then it's confirmed that you are using Universal LNB on your Astro dish. Therefore, the LNB Type setting on your Ultra Box should set as "Universal", not DCSS.

Just stick with Universal setting. You'll be just fine. No need to call Astro whatsoever.

Wait, before we go there... So once your LNB Type is set to Universal, all channels including ch 805 can watch. No issue there, right?

Only when you set the LNB Type to DCSS, then you'll get SCNA on ch 805. And now you want to know why this happens, is that correct?
