It's been ages since the last time I see Astro uses Red Button sweat.gif
More details: https://promotions.astro.com.my/details/rbcampaign

REMINDER: If you want to share a screenshot of what comes out after pressing red button, remember to edit/censor/redact the QR code before upload it here.
Otherwise, apparently anyone can scan that QR code and update the mobile number for the Astro account. sweat.gif

We shall see Astro to be more and more frugal, as more and more customers terminate Astro. Plus, the USD>MYR currency exchange rate are making things worse now.
Don't be surprised if you feel like you're getting more and more cheap or low quality stuff or service, or who knows some channels are getting cease again.

That's what I can see.

Tune to these channels listed below:
CH122, CH124, CH305, CH549, CH805
Are you able to view the channel as usual, or are you getting the "Switch to Continuous Viewing" or "Services Currently Not Available" message for those channels mentioned?

Now if you press home>Settings>Satellite Settings>LNB Setup, what is your "LNB Type" setting now? Is it "DCSS" or "Universal"?

CH122, CH124, CH305 = Switch to Continuous Viewing
CH549, CH805 = Services Currently Not Available

Try press home>Settings>Satellite Settings>LNB Setup, change the "LNB Type" setting to "Universal".
Then Next, Next, Finish.

Then tune to these channels again, and let me know what do you see on your TV for all these channels below:

CH122, CH124, CH305 = Can watch as usual / Switch to Continuous Viewing / Services Currently Not Available
CH549, CH805 = Can watch as usual / Services Currently Not Available / Unable to Play Video (HDCP Video Failed)

In that case, then it's confirmed that you are using Universal LNB on your Astro dish, not DCSS.
You should have selected "Universal" as your "LNB Type".

Ok, as for the CH549, CH805 = Unable to Play Video (HDCP Video Failed)
You are able to hear audio when tune to this 2 channels, right?

Did you use any HDMI switchers in between the HDMI connection from your Ultra Box to your TV?

Well, by right, you'll need a 4K UHD TV to watch the 4K channels from Astro.
And even if you manage to buy a 4K UHD TV someday, do make sure that your HDMI switcher/splitter supports HDCP 2.2.
Or else, you will still see the "Unable to Play Video (HDCP Video Failed)" when playing UHD content from your Ultra Box (e.g. tuning to CH549/805/play 4K VOD content).

Otherwise, you can try connect the HDMI cable directly from the Ultra Box to your TV, without going through any HDMI switchers whatsoever.

Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad (KLSE:ASTRO) Could Be At Risk Of Shrinking As A Company
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/astro-malays...-004047645.html

QUOTE
The Key Takeaway
In summary, it's unfortunate that Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad is generating lower returns from the same amount of capital. Investors haven't taken kindly to these developments, since the stock has declined 59% from where it was five years ago. With underlying trends that aren't great in these areas, we'd consider looking elsewhere.

I used to be an equity (stock) research analyst, and Astro was one of the stocks that I had been assigned to cover. Although I can sympathise with Malaysians’ unhappiness with Astro, I am more worried for Malaysia in the unfortunate case of Astro having serious financial difficulties — which seems to be an inevitability at this point.

Aside from various independent studios and artists looking for alternative sources of funding, the local entertainment and arts industry is mostly funded by Astro. Media Prima has been on a cost-cutting mode going for a decade already, and in fact has never been generous with spending since TV3’s inception (like putting artists and production crew members under contracts only so it doesn’t have to pay EPF and provide other benefits). Should the Astro well dry up, Malaysia may not even have its own entertainment industry.

It isn’t Astro’s fault for churning out the same old trite stories of Megah Holdings and drama cinta. The censorship guideline in Malaysia is suffocatingly prohibitive to the point that it dictates no antagonist could emerge victorious. Stories of politicians and corruption are strictly off the table. There are strict codes on language usage. And any scene depicting affection between a man and a woman is definitely going to be used as a fodder for political demagogues looking to score brownie points from their voters.

Astro also is not responsible for playing the same shows on repeat. There are two reasons for this. One, the international channels are owned by other companies, and the owners decide their scheduling blocks. Two, showing repeats is what pay-TV does. It lets its subscribers to watch a show again if they miss it on the premiere date. Besides, with more people cutting the cord, these channel owners don’t have the money to buy more new shows, so it becomes a vicious cycle.

I completely understand the argument of Astro being out of touch. But I just wonder how our entertainment industry would fare without Astro’s financial backing — if there is still any entertainment industry, to boot.

This is a good write up. I used to work in Astro back it it’s heyday. Made a lot of money and paid all my debts with Astro’s pay.

So I have a soft spot for them personally.

And yes you are correct on most of your points.

Should Astro dies a painful death, Perhaps Astro can spin off their local content unit and make a deal with Netflix or Disney to sell their content there. We know the Koreans have special funds from Netflix.

And there no worries of stupid content guidelines and etc.

I can't find the posting, can someone confirm whether Astro service over internet with ultra box can receive UHD channels?
joshhd
*

If your Ultra Box is in Plug & Play mode, then yes, UHD channels like CH549 and CH805 is available.

However, if your Ultra Box is in Satellite mode, but there's no satellite signal when tuning to UHD channels like CH549 and CH805, regardless whether your Ultra Box is connected to the Internet or not, then you will see "Services Currently Not Available (SCNA)".

Meanwhile for Astro Multiroom (Smart TV) app, UHD channels is not available as of point of writing. CH549 and CH805 won't even show up on the channel list.

Hope that clarifies.

I received msg my contract will auto renew when my contract end this end dec…

Wtf astro are you for real?? 😳😳😳
*

Then it suggests that you switched to the new Astro packs around December 2021, right?
Well, as long you're on the new Astro packs and you opted for either 12/24 month contract option, it will always be auto renewable.
Didn't the agent tell you that before you switch to the new Astro pack? Or you just forgot about it?

If you don't want any contract thereafter, call customer service 03-95433838 and tell them that.

Then, they'll change your package into 0-month contract, and your monthly fee may increase as high as RM25/month compared to what you've been paying now, depending on which Astro pack you've subscribed to for the past 12/24 months.

I dealt with Astro yesterday, wanting to change my box to the Ultra Box.  Got told that I needed to change to the new Astro packs.

That's when I got a shock, about the pricing listed on the website referred to 2 year contract pricing, and no contract pricing was higher.

Worst, is that after 2 years, the contracts renews?  Seriously?  This is worse than daylight robbery....
*
QUOTE(pokemon @ Nov 1 2023, 03:27 PM)
Thought there is offer free upgrade to ultra without contract now.
*

Free upgrade to Ultra Box for legacy pack customers is only applicable if you're on any of the Super Pack Plus.
If you're on lower tier ones like Super Pack, Super Pack Lite, Value Pack...., you'll only be getting Ulti Box.

Since Agent001 wants Ultra Box and asks the CS, they propose to switch to the new packs, then it seems to me that Agent001 is likely not a Super Pack Plus customer now...

Astro's new packs comes with contract auto renewal, so that you'll continuously enjoy lower monthly fee (compared to 0 month contract). But from Astro's perspective, they just want to tie your legs and don't want you to think about terminating their service anytime.

Here are pretty much all the things you need to know about the rules on Astro's new packs: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=105798856

QUOTE(pokemon @ Nov 2 2023, 10:59 PM)
Cannot get the atmos output from ultra..
The netflix app only for tv android?
*

Ultra Box does not support Dolby Vision.
There's no indication that Ultra Box supports Dolby Vision, but there is indication that it supports Dolby Atmos.

To get Dolby Atmos, make sure to connect HDMI cable to your soundbar or home theatre system, not the digital optical cable.

And as what I know, there's isn't any Dolby Atmos content from Astro right now, but you can enjoy Dolby Atmos from Netflix app. Do note that Netflix Premium (RM55) plan is required to support Dolby Atmos. Netflix Standard (RM45) plan doesn't support Dolby Atmos.

When streaming Disney+ Hotstar App from Ultra Box, you'll only get up to Full HD and Stereo audio only. To enjoy 4K and the true 5.1 audio from Disney+ Hotstar, use the app on your smart TV or Android TV box/dongle instead, not launching the app from Ultra Box.

The rest of all the streaming apps you see on Ultra/Ulti Box, is only up to Full HD and Stereo audio.

Hope that clarifies.

hi guys,, anyone hear any news on Astro Fibre? other telco already announce their new pricing & plans for new and upgrade for existing user.. hope Astro will follow gov plan to lower the package price~ i wonder...
*

So far it seems that Astro is pretty quiet especially for all its existing Astro Fibre customers about the recently revised MASP by government.

But the news I got is, Astro quietly stopped offering standalone Astro Fibre 50Mbps plan. If you want Astro Fibre 50Mbps, you must bundle it with a Astro TV plan.
QUOTE(napster.real @ Nov 4 2023, 01:19 AM)
Even free upgrade pun.. still no news.. now fibre acc now also subject to auto renewal..

QUOTE(pokemon @ Nov 4 2023, 01:32 AM)
Assthrow is a real bully here...everything also auto renewal..
*

Correction: Only the Astro pack itself (e.g. Primary Pack, Platinum Pack) is subject to contract auto renewal based on your contract period selection.

Contract auto renewal does not apply to the rest like a la carte addons (TV channels or streaming apps) as well as Astro Fibre Internet plan. Example if your Astro Fibre's 24 months contract is over, then from 25th month onwards, no more contract for the Astro Fibre. But of course, unless if you make speed upgrade/downgrade, then you'll get a fresh 24 month contract, but it'll only apply for the Astro Fibre Internet part. Your Astro TV pack are not affected.

If your Astro Fibre is bundled with Astro TV pack, then only that TV pack will be contract auto renewed accordingly based on your contract period selection (12/24 mths). Astro Fibre part, won't be contract auto renewed.

sooka & NJOI customers can now access 5 new FAST channels from Astro
https://marketingmagazine.com.my/sooka-njoi...els-from-astro/
QUOTE
All sooka and NJOI customers can now access five new Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) channels at no additional cost, namely Filem Mantap, Drama Hebat, Drama Hotpot, Lawak Sentral and Travel & Taste.

This addition compliments the existing ten FAST channels available for sooka customers, expanding customers’ choices to include more dramas, comedies, travel shows and Astro’s very own content such as Super Spontan All Stars, Suri Hati Mr Pilot, The Rebel Princess and Perfect Partner.

sooka is Malaysia’s only streaming app with complete sports and compelling local and Asian entertainment. The app provides a simple, no fuss experience on any connected device and is ideal for on-the-go entertainment.

Meanwhile, NJOI is Malaysia’s first prepaid freemium satellite TV service, offering a variety of exciting entertainment, sports, learning and news content.

This expansion on sooka and NJOI aims to provide users with a more diverse range of entertainment options at no additional charge. Created by Astro, these new FAST channels offer a mix of in-house content and international programmes, and are accessible via the NJOI Box for NJOI customers and mobile devices & Smart TVs for sooka users.

The five FAST channels by Astro are:
  • Filem Mantap (NJOI CH131): The perfect destination for feature-length storytelling at its finest. It offers curated collection of telemovies across a wide range of genres that will entertain and enthrall you.
  • Drama Hebat (NJOI CH132): Entertain yourself with a thematic mix of bespoke music and other content that provides you with round-the-clock entertainment across the globe. Journey back in time with our selection of captivating local dramas, where exceptional actors and actresses weave cinematic magic with their extraordinary performances. These timeless dramas offer a glimpse into the past, where emotions, conflicts and resolutions remain relevant today.
  • Drama Hotpot (NJOI CH133): This channel offers hours of captivating entertainment showcasing the finest content from China, designed to delight every member of your family.
  • Lawak Sentral (NJOI CH134): Get ready for a rollercoaster ride of side-splitting humour that will leave your spirit roaring. From hilarious stand-up routines to sitcoms packed with punchlines, here is your non-stop ticket to a world of joy and endless giggles.
  • Travel & Taste (NJOI CH135): This channel uncovers the rich tapestry of cultures through immersive travel experiences, whilst also savouring the authentic flavours of each region through delectable recipes.
FAST stands for Free Ad-Supported Television
In other words, it means free rojak channels that recycle all the many-years-ago TV shows, and then with slot-in ads in between commercial breaks.
QUOTE(Feliex @ Nov 9 2023, 10:00 PM)
If rubbish channel, free also tak mau
*

Some people (including me) would find it rubbish, but there are people out there that cares about quantity more than quality, so to them, the more number of TV channels, the better.
And for sure there'll some Astro customers out there will make noise and say things like "I pay so much every month, yet NJOI customers can get the 5 new channels for free. That's not fair." sweat.gif
But seriously, FAST channels are not "premium channels". As an Astro customer who is paying a premium price every month, do you really need uh.... new rojak low quality channels?
Obviously, they made these rojak FAST channels only available on NJOI and Sooka platforms for a reason.

Since those channels will keep looping those many-year-old shows, I believe in Astro's perspective, it is a very cheap way to "increase number of TV channels", and that is a good news to those low or never-paying NJOI customers, cuz it gives them more choice of channels/programmes to watch. Well, it's old shows anyway.
And NJOI can take this opportunity to upsell their prepaid packs offerings during commercial breaks, especially their NJOI Family Pack, which can potentially increase their revenue.
Free low quality channels, still better than nothing. whistling.gif

Terminated astro for good a few days back.
Astro is taking back the ultra box and not the antenna dish.
Can connect the antenna dish LNB direct to the smart tv to get free channels? Or need different type antenna?
*

Can connect the antenna dish LNB direct to the smart tv to get free channels?
No.

If you want to have basic TV channels to watch using the satellite dish, get NJOI box. You can get it on Shopee or Lazada:
https://shopee.com.my/NJOI-Box-Set-(NJOI-HD...5537.1545403561
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/yearendp...9712133904.html?

Since you already have an existing satellite dish, just select the "HD Box Replacement" option.
Then the installer will use back your existing dish for the installation, where the total installation fee will be cheaper at RM309 (RM259+RM50 installation fee) instead of RM399 (RM314 Box + RM85 installation fee).
The RM399 one is, it comes with new satellite dish kit, that's why it's costlier, while the total RM309 one doesn't have.

If you don't want NJOI, then just leave your Astro dish as it is, or you can dismantle it yourself and jual besi buruk.

Well, since the 5 FAST channels is a "low cost" TV channel, hence the channel logo make it look like it is made at very last minute, or it is made by cheap labour smile.gif
So cheap till the point that you can design it yourself using Microsoft Paint software. No much effort required biggrin.gif
It will be a disgrace if the channel logo of the 5 FAST channels carries Astro branding.

No choice la... People out there keep terminating Astro, so the company is cutting costs here and there now. Why bother having a fancy channel logo, right?

For some reason, channel identification is necessary and it'll be easier to identify the channel name by looking at the channel logo on screen, rather than pressing the info banner.
