Astro SmartTV can only be used if you download from the Google Play Store. Sideload is no longer allowed.

Astro SmartTV only supports Android TV from SHARP and Sony, but some Android TV models from other brands can also support it.
For example, I use Mecool KM7+ (Google TV) to watch Astro, since only this model from Mecool supports Astro SmartTV.

Haih... I wonder why don't they just make it available on Google Play Store to all compatible Android TVs regardless of brand or model, as long it is a Google certified device?
They don't want too many people use Multiroom (Smart TV) or what? sweat.gif dry.gif dry.gif

I thought this issue is talked about here before. It's still under multiroom, so technically it needs to be in the same house as the main decoder. Hence why they are not allowing it to be installed into a portable device, and instead into your tv (ingat orang takleh angkut TV pindah pergi rumah lain ke)

Basically
Multiroom - Static location
Astro Go - portable device
*

Okay... Then how about Android TVs regardless of any TV brands rather than limited to only Sony and Sharp?

Hi,

Currently still under AstroIPTV with TIME. Have been using Astro PlugNPlay for about a year already.

Just received a call from Astro that they will convert TIME to Astro Fiber by end of the year.

Need advice how to separate Time broadband from Astro subscription. I would like to keep the Time Broadband instead of using Astro Fiber. Hopefully with no interruption to the internet connection.

Thank you
*

Sounds like they're planning to decommission Astro IPTV TIME nationwide at the end of this year? o.O
Do you really want to convert that soon though? Cuz it's like, you're the last few remaining of Astro IPTV TIME customers out there... sweat.gif

Anyway, to do so, tell Astro that you would like to decouple your Astro IPTV TIME subscription into standalone TIME Fibre subscription, and you are not interested in Astro Fibre.
Doing so will also mean you'll lose Astro IPTV Multicast service permanently.

To continue enjoying Astro TV service thereafter, they'll offer you to upgrade to Ulti or Ultra Box and then opt for Plug & Play service.
Pros of Plug & Play service is, it's purely Internet streaming to access Astro channels/content & no satellite dish involved. Cons of Plug & Play service is, it is adaptive streaming and the streaming performance is subjected to network congestion.

If you insist to use back your PVR box, you can only go for Satellite option, where either you connect to your building's centralised dish or use your own Astro dish if your building management allows it.

The likely reason they tell you to go for Astro Fibre is, probably they found out that TM HSBA coverage is available for your unit. If you proceed with Astro Fibre, TM fibre cable will be layed (if haven't) and use for your Astro Fibre service.

My personal opinion: If you already have TIME, why bother going for Astro Fibre which uses TM infra...? sweat.gif
If I were you, I'd rather stick to standalone TIME Fibre.

I am on legacy pack about RM110+/month include 6% tax. No more contract.

I am on old Astro beyond decoder (the one with HDD inside). Saw an ads a while ago Astro ask us to change the decoder.

Am I qualify for free Ultra box while maintain the legacy package?
*

This statement suggests that you are using Astro PVR box.
If you've accustomed in using PVR box and want to upgrade to newer box, you might wanna read this first: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...#entry100498320

Free Ultra Box upgrade is only applicable if you're on Super Pack Plus. But since you mentioned your subscription is RM110+ per month, then definitely is not Super Pack Plus anymore.

More info regarding this box upgrade offer for legacy pack customers:
https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=107258886

If you're eligible for the offer, you'll get free Ulti Box upgrade instead. Not Ultra Box.

I checked my legacy package astro acc, I clicked the app section.

I recently saw my app section got disney hotstar app, I was unaware of this, last time check long time ago dont have lol.

I know my TVB anywhere+ is free due to my Astro subscription, but is disney hotstar also free?

I tried to register my mobile number, but astro lead me to astro.com.my/Disney ask me to register my number. This one got lead to extra charge next month kah? or already included in my legacy package? Because when I login tvb anywhere dont need this kind of thing one, i just login like that. Disney hotstar somehow totally diff.

Your subscription has Movies, is it?
If yes, then Disney+ Hotstar is already included in your subscription.
Just use your mobile number to sign up and start streaming.

If not sure, then can share with us, which legacy pack are you on now?

> I want to stop subscribing to ASTRO in a few months. No more of auto-renewing shit and packing useless shows behind criminal-like price increase.

> I upgraded my Unifi subscription to include Netflix.

So I was advised by Netflix custcare to get ASTRO to remove itself from being current payment method, before I can switch to Unifi.

I am currently fuming because ASTRO refuses to remove itself.

Dahulu sewaktu upgrade pek dengan Netflix, dia canang suruh link akaun Netflix sedia ada. Senang sungguh nak lantik diri dia jadi kaedah pembayaran.

Sekarang diminta dia berundur, dia enggan.

Threat of penalty for breaching contract if I still want to remove ASTRO from being the payment method.

Eh ASTRO, aku bukan nak berhenti bayar Netflix kepada engkau.
Aku cuma tak mahu engkau berterusan kaitkan diri dengan akaun Netflix dinosaur aku.

Update:
ASTRO insisted they cannot unlink from continuing to pay for my dinosaur account.
*

You're on Premium Pack 3, right? 24 months contract ending in another few more months?
You call them to unbind your Netflix account with Astro, or you WhatsApp live agent them, or how?

What is the reason given by that agent that refuse to unbind your Netflix account with Astro?

aku dah malas nak contact Astro.
dia nak sangat pegang akaun tu, baiklah, peganglah.

Diorang punya sistem problem, tiba-tiba kontrak jadi 2 tahun semula and without checking through, they really stick to the new date.
*

I feel sorry for you la. sad.gif
The way I see it, it's more towards that agent's problem. I suggest you not to give up yet. The problem won't solve itself if you give up.

I suggest you better file a complaint to MCMC, say that you just want to unlink your Netflix account with Astro, but end up they refused to do so, and gave all sort of irrelevant excuses.

Can show us a picture on how's that "superblocky" scene look like, along with the exact timestamp of that scene.
Then we all here can check as well.

It's actually via web browser(AstroGO).
*

Oh, Astro Go, is it?
If it's Astro Go, then it's only up to 720p, and they're pretty stingy in bitrate, so yeah, video compression artifacts are to be expected especially during fast motion scenes.

I suggest you stream it on your Ulti / Ultra Box, then you'll get 1080p quality there.

anyone knows the new channel TV5 in astro or not ? what is the number channel?

At the moment, Enjoy TV5 channel is not available on Astro.

The company that operates TV5 channel will need to pay a lot of money to Astro to provide the channel on Astro platform.

QUOTE(muscaa @ Jul 26 2023, 09:38 PM)
and finally today was my turn to terminate my 13-year-old PVR subscription. Actually not that easy. Calling them since last month before the end of the contract on 30 June. The agent named S said that I gotta give them a call after 30 June because termination before that will incur penalty, so I did it after 1 July. Again S said that I should keep it till the bill cycle ends on 24 July as I have paid upfront, so I did and S said the termination will be β€œautomatically” done after that. Then I checked again my account was still active on today 26 July! They really love to fool us. So I called them again sharp at 9am today and agent A picked up the call telling me politely that he could not terminate the account as my case was handled by S! He handed over the case to S and around 5pm finally called me using the same tactic to offer me discount but I told him not interested. He made the last attempt by telling me that the new cycle of bill started on 25 July so I should continue it till at least next cycle ends on 24 August. Finally I got agitated and told him off that better terminate with immediate effect. He had no choice but to end the subscription without the needs to return the PVR decoder which was no longer working since a few months ago. What a way to end the journey with Astro!

Thank you for sharing your termination journey of your Astro service here.

Astro tvbox aka ultra/ulti box is a crap.
Always hang one.
*

Reason either one below, or both, or all:
1) Lousy hardware
2) Lousy software quality
3) Lousy engineers

What do you do that triggers that hang? Is it when launching streaming apps? Or how?
QUOTE(feed2doorsmhbm @ Jul 30 2023, 01:24 AM)
Dude, what's VSS means?
But I know streaming services will be on the top more than linear TV bu-, oh yeah, already know that

P.S. Boomerang already relaunch as Cartoonito for the second time in Asia.
*

VSS stands for Voluntary Separation Scheme.

Astro has been facing financial problems for many years due to various of reasons, mainly are customer terminating its service, more and more video streaming services, and increase costs of content due to USD>MYR currency exchange. Pay TV providers around the world has been facing the same situation, and even for a monopolistic company like Astro can't run far away from this.

Because their profit is low, so their operating costs will need to be low too. To sustain their business in the long run, now they offer a choice to their employees where Astro will compensate the employee if they resign/leave the company voluntarily. Because the lesser the staffs working in Astro, the lesser the money they need to pay ALL their staffs.

Even TM also offers VSS to its staffs now... But this time it's open to their 50 years old and above staffs...

The decline in the whole industry is true and a worldwide issue. But azzterroo cannot blame it 100%.

1. They are arrogant and treat customers like idiots (eg serving more and more ads while customer still need to pay same or more)

2. If management is sincere in cost cutting, they should take a salary cut first esp the Mut Sallah one month salary can pay how many people? Is the Mut Sallah really so good at the job? Dont think so. Share price dropped so much. Financial numbers so bad.

They blame economy la this la that la, notice they never ever blame themself. And THIS is the problem.
*

Which Mat Salleh you're referring to? https://corporate.astro.com.my/our-company/leadership
Anyway, salary cut for the senior leadership seems like a.... Hmm, good idea? hmm.gif
But even if they have a salary cut, how does it gonna affect us customers anyway? Ads will only become more and more... sweat.gif
QUOTE(pokemon @ Jul 31 2023, 05:40 PM)
Meaning Assthrow has been making obscene profits with more advertisements and worsening customers experience.
*

But they will argue that advertisements is a common practice everywhere, and a good go-to platform for advertisers to buy a spot or impressions across Astro platforms, thanks to the 70% TV viewership share.

upgrading to ultra from byond , is it worth it ?
*

If you're using the normal HD box, then yes, it is worth a upgrade to Ultra or Ulti Box, as you'll be getting a whole lot of new features that you don't get on your HD box.

But if you're using PVR box, then it depends whether you do programme recordings and watch On Demand there or not, cuz the user experience you'll get on Ultra/Ulti Box will be pretty different. Some people may like it, some may not, or some even don't mind or don't care, so it depends on individual.

I just got the ultibox today, everything is working fine, I am just trying to figure out  if there is a setting to power off the device instead of it going on standby. Concern on the electricity bill. LOL
*

Just put to standby mode whenever you're not watching, is good enough already.
The power consumption of Astro box is very low one.

Suddenly now it’s okay πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

But thanks for the reply

If you suddenly see Services Currently Not Available message even when the weather is clear, then the issue is likely something wrong somewhere between the signal connection to your satellite dish. It's not necessary that your Astro box is kaput.
Loose satellite cable connection may cause intermittent issues like this too.

Cancelled one of my Multiroom (I have two, with one being paid for by my colleagues for *cough*multioffice*cough*) via Twitter (X?).

Was asked the reason for the termination, told them I was interested in changing to Android TV Multiroom (alasan je, no intention of doing so). Cancellation accepted, and one day before billing multiroom was no more.

Now I wonder if one can have a normal Astro account + Njoi account under one name, as I am thinking of using this cancelled Multiroom decoder for nJoi.

Yeah, it is possible.

I am thinking of using this cancelled Multiroom decoder for nJoi.
I think can also, and you might need to pay a one-off NJOI conversion fee of RM199.
