QUOTE(NimalKumar @ Oct 3 2023, 03:57 AM)
I recently saw the ad where they promoted Movies Pack for RM 6X smtg. Intrigues, I went to switch via Astro Online. 3 Disappointing things happened.

1. The price rose back to RM95 when I choose 'switch'. Even worse was when the price indicated was without any Add-ons selected. I added Indian Fav and the grand total was RM110-ish.

2. Apparently Movies Pack customers can only enjoy Ulti Box ..? Idk why Astro pushes Ulti in the first place as it makes no sense to implement 2 boxes for a single service.

3. I was recommended "Entertainment Pack" as a substitute for my Value Pack 2 (Namma Pack) + Sports. It was very lacklustre to see even Thangathirai wasnet even given to us. I mean the name says Box Office but the shows are literally from India's gallery of trash movies. The mini programs such as Cine Sequal (yes, they spell sequel that way) are frozen in 2009 era.

Why cant Astro be nice enough to provide us with a retention package or at very least something we both can agree upon? Their Customer Service line literally hangs up TWICE when contacted. At this point I may just but SUN NXT and Hotstar directly and stream everything there.

Extremely Disappointed with the misleading price cut ad.
*
About the drop call I also experience. I think the better way is to use Whatsapp message, because you can trace back the chat and continue from there.
As for some of the promo, it may not be accessible to old customer, only for new customer.... But if your contract is up, can always chat with them and request. Include the photo of the promo as well when mentioning to them
The downfall is that you maybe tie up with another 24 months contract.

In the last resort, can complaint to MCMC about price differential between new and old customer of same package, and eventually will get the promo price. biggrin.gif .. but then again with the contract. I am a loyal astro customer, so contract is no issue... I just want the price as advertised. tongue.gif

Hmm... Sooka has deleted the post, where it apologises about some technical issues, and then provided the Sooka fallback URL.

Am I the only one that thinks that this Sooka has been experiencing numerous times of outages over the past few months, especially when there is a big match going on? hmm.gif
*
Maybe server bandwidth not enough during big match. Too many viewership. hmm.gif

Just direct to MCMC right ?
I heard that directing to MCMC makes things easier by forumers here.
Things could be better if they were more lenient on cancelling the subscriptions. We are long time customer since Astro was introduced.
Just tried calling them. My father is the account holder. The agent said must be the acc holder to call them for verification. So many hassle. I could not proceed because I am in the office while my father is at home.

Yes, I have Disney Hotstar.
My package is Premium Pack 1 + 3 Add Ons (Disney Hotstar, Chinese Fav, News). Ultrabox without multiroom.
Was subscribed to Hotstar the minute it was launched in Malaysia. How long has it been ? I am not sure.
I hope it has been a year or close to 1 year to avoid penalty.
*
Yes... they only attend to account holder, but I think this is standard procedure, not possible to let others make changes without consent from account holders lah.. else huru-hara. Still need to adhire to certain account privacy protocol
But you can request for a call back though.

Another faster way, is that just default your payment. They will stop your service. And after a month or two then you can just walk into astro customer service to settle everything and return their decoder. If their charges on Penalty is exorbitant, just walk away cool2.gif Not that they can bankrupt you.

Can try but not always successful. For example... account holder is female and a male try to impersonate. They can easily difference male and female voice. biggrin.gif

Yes, minus the streaming apps listing and linear 4K channels 549 & 805/806. Just add-on RM14.99/month (Multiroom Smart TV) on My Astro app, and you get free Astro GO+ (4 screens incl. 1 Smart TV app & 1,500 hrs of cloud recording) as well.
*
Just noted that multiroom smart TV is only applicable to 2nd device. You first must have subscription with Ultra/ulti box.
Secondlyh the RM14.99/month is only for first year. after that is 29.99.

Before this, my SmartTV price was RM4.99 for 12 months.
*
Wow... good for you... enjoy while it last. mine got "upgraded" to the new fee recently :-(
But still it is cheaper the the multiroom Ultra/ulti box. So I still continue on.

QUOTE(ck77 @ Dec 6 2023, 12:30 PM)
Need to subscribe to Multiroom to access the Astro Apps.
*
Yes.. The astro smartTV app is a part of the multiroom. You first must have astro subscription before you can add multiroom.
You can add up to 3 multiroom but only 1 smartTV app... So yeah... they don't allow you to have more than 1 smartTV app.

QUOTE(Oltromen Ripot @ Dec 8 2023, 06:54 PM)
the decoders were registered separately in 2012; on different dates, but both with same mall promo booth. right from start both were installed at separate addresses, so there was no intent for to game for what is now called multiroom. in fact, multiroom RM50/additional decoders were introduced later.

but somehow they were registered into a single account. i did asked about splitting them into 2 accounts, but back then CS said it will be treated as breach of contract. so i never bothered afterwrd.

i can sense roll-eyes and "yeah, right..." from every CS i dealt with everytime the learnt the decoders are at different addresses, because under "multiroom" that they are familiar with, 1 account should only be at 1 address. to them, i am gaming the multiroom allowance.

the spoiled one in kampung is the black HD PVR right before time of Ultrabox.
the one in my residence is Ultrabox.

i didn't proceed to enquire which centre i can return it to.
she was laughing because the information that i can actually walk-in to return it was after she created report to handle "when is courier coming to collect?"
the previous call on 30th October already denied option to return via walk-in, so it never crossed my mind to ask again today.

--

really feel like they are setting trap after trap just to milk every ringgit possible.

- the decoder terminated on 30th october was already prepaid (october bill) until 8th november, but i didn't see prorated refund in november bill.

- the decoder terminated on 30th october was previously told "no need" to return, but today's CS demands it. potential penalty in tomorrow's final bill?

- on 30th october, CS called me, and i was advised to NOT pay november bill's yet. i am to wait for tomorrow's final bill as all prorated was expected to be accounted properly. will i be charged penalty for not paying november's bill by 5th december?

- the decoder terminated on 25th november is supposed to be collected, already 2 sms informing that citylink is supposed to call me to collect, but until today 8th december not even a ring. potential penalty in tomorrow's final bill?

- the decoder terminated on 25th november, i expect the same "no prorate" treatment in tomorrow's final bill.

edit:
corrected 30th november to 30th october
*
Since you are terminating, no need to worries about paying them. As your service already cut off, so there is no continuous billing. Just uphold your last payment. It is no big deal, just owe them the last month of bill for the time being. When you are free and got the time to visit the astro center then (3 month / 6 month later), then only return the decoders and pay the final bill. Not if the can sue you or bar you from flying out.

It is a different scenario, if you have others accounts, as not paying, they will bar your service and there is a penalty for re connection.

As for the customer service, they sux big time, probably hire intern or part time, most of the customer service have no idea about their own process... anyway, just bare with them, cause they gaji bulan saja, more of a company culture thing. Worst come to worst, there is always MCMC and consumer tribunal. flex.gif

update:
f***.
i read wrong bill.
despite the ASTRO app reflecting new amount for the supposed dec2023 bill at top of the bills page, it link instead to nov2023 bill. so i read nov2023 thinking it is dec2023.

on the real dec2023 bill:
i am wrong on the no-prorate for smartcard Y.
ASTRO did give pro-rate.
BUT, they also charge termination fee for it. RM
no prorate on smartcard X yet.

add image.

You do acknowledged that if your contract is 24 month... and if you terminate before contract end, you will need to pay terminating fee? It is quite straight forward and many forumers complaint about this... but yes contract let you enjoy cheaper rate but you are tie up for 12 or 24 months. Early termination will be charged.

If you are good with that, then I don't seems there is much of an issue.

As you already terminate, there will no longer anymore bills in coming months. That bill should be your last bill.
Hold the bill first and when you are able, only return the decoder and clear the bill.

So is it safe to say that, they can afford to pay royalties to initiate the live sports match broadcast in Dolby Vision, but can't afford to pay royalty fees for each and every Ultra Box out there to support Dolby Vision?  sweat.gif
Therefore, maybe that football match is actually available in Dolby Vision, but end up that is being stored in their archive recordings, where no one else can enjoy that HDR version of football match except the behind-the-scenes production crew?
*
Maybe Dobly vision is more about the hardware they use to record the match support Dolby Vision. For example newer camera recorder is build in with this features, so the bitstream it generated contain this additional information.

On the decoder side (Ultra/Ulti box) because decoder does not have this features, so this information in the bitstream is discard.

This one is all show only. Reporting very bad financial result to further push the stock price down.
Later the "boss" will privatize it at a much lower price.

Then wait another 3 ~ 5 years then push in back onto market again.. PROFIT.

This isn't the first time Astro and Maxis go privatize before going back onto bursa again.

It won't be easy to get back to Bursa after it is privatized this time.
Pay tv is a sunset business now in this country.

The shift is going to streaming like netflix and prime video that have huge library of good quality contents.
*
Not sure about listing to Bursa. But I think if there is a way, they can do it.
Bursa is just a market place, you want to dagang at the markt, just pay rental.
They don't really care if sunset indstry or not.

Besides, astro now also have diversify to fiber, so not just PatTV. I think if there is a will, there is a way.
Just which option brings in more cash for the boss only brows.gif

Ya agree astro channels nothing interesting at all. Waste RM only to subscribe
*
Ya, partially agree about it. But I guess this is the norm for channels all over the world now. People nowadays just don't watch TV that much anymore. Country like Singapore, Thailand and etc. all registered a significant drop in viewership.

Even if interesting shows/movie is shown. Still people will less likely to watch TV. Kids nowadays hardly watch TV now and it maybe more worth to subscribe to YouTube Premium or Netflix will do.

But for my case, because household got parents.. they still prefer to watch news and some local content. So I will subscribe for them.
I personally think that local content is quite OK. cool2.gif

have extremely dumb question. does astro have UHD / 4k channel?

my parents have 2 astro account one for upstairs one for downstairs  , but using 1080p 42inch & 32 inch TV only.

wondering if it's worth to get a 4k tv for them.
*
A more likely question is that what channel your parents usually watch. Does your parents access youtube, tik tok, internet contents? I presume the 42 and 32 inch TV is old, so Changing to a new smart TV enable them to connect to internet as well. Some channel such as Disney+, Netflix can have 4K content on their App that is link to astro account based on your subscription.

Anyone else has issues with very poor WIFI connection for Astro Ultrabox? I am using TIME 500mbps and the Wifi is agonisingly slow for Astro Ultrabox - test sometimes show 2-3mbps speed....

The Ultrabox is placed next to my TV and PS5 - all connected to the same WiFi network but the other devices never had issues nor disconnection.

It is erratic and on bad days, some channels play fine, some channels frequently drops resolution to non-HD while some channels are unwatchable with the loading icon showing every few seconds (e.g. 305, 715, 814)

Do I need to change my Ultrabox?
*
Maybe run more test first. For example what is the wifi signal strength, usually slow speed is also means weak signal strength
1. Try changing position, does signal strength improve and test improve
2. Try using 2.4G or 5G to check if there is any difference
3. Possible to connect using LAN cable?
Every time you change the test condition, rerun the speed test ... to confirm the speed.

I have moved it around the cabinet and still same results. In fact it got worse overnight. My PS5 and TV right next to the Ultrabox does not face the same issue.

Unfortunately, not able to move my router closer and use LAN connection instead.

Funny thing is just a couple of weeks back, I am able to watch Malaysia Cup final on 4K UHD smoothly.

It's on Plug and Play only
*
I assume you have done the necessary as restart your router as other forumer suggested.
You didn't mentioned about any difference between connecting via 2.4G vs 5G. I assume it is lagging for both frequency type?

Last thing to try is to use a hotspot... and connect it. See if there is improvement. Alternatively you can also test at friends or relative house to confirm if it is lagging.
It if it. then there is something wrong with the ultra/ulti box antenna or chip.

Else maybe it is your router settings or something.

1. No announcement as of yet when it's going to change.

2. You can actually get 1 year or even 0 year contract, but they are a bit more expensive than 24 months.

3. Yes, it needs to be above RM100. I have the same issue as when I downgraded my Astro. I wanted the Sports pack only, but since it was below RM 100 and I had Multiroom, I was given the choice of adding something to make it above RM100 or foregoing Multiroom. I added the education pack after that.

4. Technically the TnC says it needs to be installed in the same household, but no, Astro can't detect if it's used elsewhere. Just nudge nudge wink wink I know you know and leave it at that.
*
Just one more information to add about multiroom smartAPP. It is 14.99 for the first 12 months only. It will goes back to 29.99 after that.
