QUOTE(soryo @ Jul 24 2007, 09:17 PM)
hey old and current N95 users

i was actually inquiring about this phone with the salesman. I was very interested in N95 and also 6110 and was intending to make a purchase.

But the salesman told me about this fact before i make a decision. He said that the GPS license provide by NOKIA is only for 3 months and it require the user to pay MYR200/year to purchase the license to enable the GPS. If not, the built-in GPS will be locked.

Another alternative was to purchase an external GPS transmitter, which i do not intend to do so. Since it has a built-in GPS, why should i get an external. So i was wondering the fact about the GPS being disable after the "3months" is true? Is there anyway around it?

thx

u call that a fact??? not to offend u... u should think about what he said urself....

Is N95 very low margin for them or they just not able to get stock or they not able to keep too expansive model then they try to push some other model to the customer??

it sound totally suck....

I think that fellow don't even know what is GPS all about....

I am telling you that the salesman are stupid... and talk non sense.. and you still want to believe on what he said.. that is your choice....

if someone gonna buy an external bluetooth GPS to pair with a N95.... that is even... speechless....

The Voice Navigation expired does it mean smart2go cannot use??

I think almost all of N95 here having Asia Map in their N95.. is this a third party software?? how come it work on our unit?

Main disadvantages
Poor battery life - 2 days is just fine with me
Charging through USB is not possible - for me that is good cuz charging through usb is slow and i read somewhere charging this way would spoil the battery (don't flame me if untrue)
No FM RDS - don't know what this is?
Voice assisted GPS navigation is charged  (This mean voice navi smart2go expired after 3 month)GPS chip doesn't work with third party applications (That y the salesman ask to buy external GPS) - You mean 3rd party applications or external GPS would provide free voice navigation for LIFE? I doubt so
Cannot edit office documents -  doh.gif This is the most stupid one. You can edit if you upgrade the Quickoffice. That is software limitation not N95 hardware limitation.

What do you expect guys, N95 can cook your breakfast & boil our egg in the morning. Even if it can, you will need to purchase a third party software for you to enable it. You expect everything under the sun? Even buy car also need to pay separate for the accessories.

I seriously think there is a conspiracy going on among the salesperson to discredit N95. Maybe really their profit margin is very low.

hey, mstr583.

Thank for your remark.

Perhap i misquote the salesman, he mention the voice navigation is disactivated after it expire. But i wasnt sure if the gps could still be working or not. It seems it is possible but imo the voice navigation is the one good thing about gps. without it, it would be pointless for me.

At least you answered my question right to the point and not flaming around.

If that is the case, i would have to think over it and perhaps resort to a pda that is much more dedicated with gps. anyway thx again.

enjoy your N95 guys =)

edit:
well, about the charges, i heard it was MYR 200/ year. cheer! Extra top up! Evul stuff =p

I gues the salesman need to attend some courses on the new technology bout phone. Haha! GPS is free for locking no matter external/in built. The charges only apply for software and navigation support.

You can always use the Smart2go map software for your phone & download the malaysian map. by doing this the Sabah map should be there but whether it's updated or not, is another question.

Some Ap sets also do include Asia maps but it depends.

I bought it on 23rd June. About a month. Now, after carefull examination, i dont think its really broken. MP3s are ok. Only the sound when you keypad lock, or when you received the delivery report is a bit weird. Not like it used to be. Sending to warranty will make me die waiting. I think i can still live with it tho. Lol

If you ask me, I am not using it everyday but its a must to have GPS for me coz my work is such where I have to explore new places & so on.

Sometimes I just have to go to outstation based on the coordinate given by my company.

So for me, GPS is essential.
