it depends. the key idea of a foam mod is to fill up space with damping materials, so that it will give solid typing feel, and help getting rid of unwanted sound. the rest is about how to achieve this, while considering differences of your board, because there is always more than one way to achieve the same outcomes.

the space between a typical 1.5mm-thick top plate and pcb is 3.5mm. ideally, in such cases, the ideal plate foam is 3.5mm thick. 4mm foam can be used also, because you can compress it further to roughly 3.5mm before use. alternatively, you can use 3mm foam with single-sided adhesive (which is about 3.5mm).

what if your plate is 3mm or 4mm thick? you use 2mm or 1mm foam instead. the same applies to bottom case foam.

oooooooooooo so i need 1 foam between bottom case to pcb and another foam between pcb and plate. correct?

It's up to you. You can do either one only, or both.

Most people do the first one because it is an easy mod. The second requires all switches to be removed so that you can get the plate off which can be quite a lot of work if the keyboard is already fully assembled.

Hi guys. I have Gat reds and Outemu Browns. Both are soldered. Which oil/grease is more optimal for non-desoldered method with brush? Krytox 205g0 or 105? Thought of just getting one lube for both applications.

I'm not an entousiast just a casual mech user.

no idea.

the printing technology for legends is laser engraving. however, with that price, if the wall thickness of 1.5mm is real, it should be ok.

the problem is not lube choice, as approaches are already wrong. all quickies are just quickies. they are not optimal in nature.

just do what you want. maybe use oil is better, or spray lubing.

Foaming the bottom case is not always a walk in the park either. Since I'm still waiting for my...you know, I'm slowly doing my bottom case. Some of the squares have 2 layers of foam. So far in this picture there are 40 individual pieces of foam that I have cut to fit the spaces. Still have at least 10 pieces to go.
Attached Image
Those with flat and empty bottom cases....be grateful.
