Hello guys.

Im pretty new to MKB. Im now currently using ikbc c87, red switch. I do game but im not a big fan of those rgb corsair razer etcs type keyboard. Used them previously and now I appreciating better quality KB, keycaps. I was hoping to venture into another set. A another TKL perhaps. I got a budget of rm500, previously i almost got leopod at ultimate zone but they didnt have red switch so i got the ikbc instead.
Any other brands should i looks out for? And where to get it?

Thks guyss

I can recommend the leopold with double shot keycaps.

If want better quality than leopold, you will have to go custom . smile.gif

The 1STPLAYER Bullet Hunter MK6 Mechanical Keyboard Review: Affordable But Good

Gaming peripherals are one of the most popular segments of the market these days. Dozens of companies on every continent are actively competing for a piece of the market share, leading to the availability of a great variety of products for consumers. As the size of the gaming market itself constantly expands, the gross income of almost every reputable company increases even though the competition constantly expands. The only issue that companies have these days lies on innovation – the sheer number of products and limited design possibilities makes it very difficult for manufacturers to truly differentiate from their competitors.

Today we are having our very first look at a product from 1STPLAYER, a company originating from China. 1STPLAYER is relatively unknown to the US/EU but they have a very strong presence in Asia and boast impressive manufacturing capabilities. The company recently decided to expand into the EU and the US. Although, for the time being, 1STPLAYER has an official distributor only in the UK and Ukraine, their products can also be easily found for sale online in the US.

The product that we will be reviewing today is the Bullet Hunter MK6 mechanical gaming keyboard. In terms of features, the Bullet Hunter MK6 probably does not have any unique ones that we can point out in this introduction, as several competitive products sport similar, or even identical, features lists. However, the pricing of the Bullet Hunter MK6 is extremely aggressive for a programmable mechanical keyboard with RGB backlighting, as it is currently retailing for less than $65.

er there is no hate tbh. in fact, if you like it as is, it's really all good.

there are things about romer-g switches that we consider not optimal, especially for beginners, in case they wish to experience more than stock configurations, and also replacement and maintenance when things break. for instance, cap replacement. (e.g. one of the keys break and you wanna replace it; or you simply wanna try out how thick pbt/abs caps, with different profiles, feel on your board) this is a very simple thing to do if you have a board with cherry mx style switches. now look at romer-g switches, they are incompatible with cherry mx style key caps, due to its stems. when you look around, there are no option for you to choose from.

i'm not sure about you, but to us it's really not a good idea to suggest romer-g based boards, considering price point, flexibility, and options that people can have.

Yeah i read about the flexibility. that's why people don't like it.
But it works fine for me so far. And hopefully it doesn't break down! sweat.gif

right.

don't worry about it breaking down. in general, mkbs last long. (more than 10 years, easily) it's because of this longevity, flexibility for maintenance and replacement is one of the good values in the long run. on top of that, it can be repaired most of the times. (well, as long as parts are still available, and you still wanna keep using it hehe)

The "hate" is part of the hype. If you know what I mean. They aren't too shabby, at the very least it still uses Cherry-style plate mount stabilisers and can be tuned to less rattly. The only real flaw I feel about them is the lack of keycaps to be replaced, not even talking about customisation, but, in case the keycaps break (they really ain't too high quality and there are already people breaking them due to the small tabs used to secure it onto the switches) there's really no ready replacements available. Unlike the more common "CMX (Cherry MX) style" switches where you can get cheapo keycap sets from as low as RM20+ to as expensive as RM1k+

I actually own one, it's really not bad, but I have desoldered those Outemu hot-swap pins and soldered in Kailh Box Jades.

Do you all actually slam your keys so hard that they break apart? Because I have been using computers for a long long long time and I have never experienced anything as such. Maybe it's just a guy's thing when they rage play and rage quit. haha!

I don't wanna start jinxing myself so... *touch wood*

I don't, but it's an observation that the keycaps are a bit of a poorer quality (and rather design) by having the small tabs to secure to the switches.

As for how does it break, some people would want to remove the keycaps for better cleaning of the keyboard from dust and what's not, it could break during removal or during re-attachment. Not sure if I heard of anyone breaking it in use.

Can't say much coz I pretty much don't own any Romer-G keyboards but have fixed a few.

no. the problem is not with romer-g switches, but its key caps, and it's more related to wear and tear. afaik stock key caps on these logitech boards are thin abs with pad-printed legends. they are not durable in nature. for instance, you can wear legends off just by normal typing. hence, the most common issues reported by users are broken stems, and faded legends. (don't take my words for it. you can verify this easily with search engines)

logitech markets it as a gaming board. because of this classification, parts like switches and caps are expected to be more durable than normal. (at least legends are printed with technologies like dye-sublimation or double-shot, to make them more balanced in terms of durability) in reality, while romer-g switches are living up to its name (made by omron; good stuff), the caps are not.

unfortunately, many brands which sell gaming boards are doing the same. the only difference is that it's much easier to get replacement caps for these boards.

Hi everyone, I've been lurking here for a while and caught the bug for a mechanical keyboard. Initially I was looking at a Filco and found the distributor a few streets from my home, but alas they gave up on stocking it due to high prices and low demand. Found Alpha_Tay posts here, but he also has no stock.

In the end I took Horns suggestion (thanks Horns) to consider Varmilo and am now the proud owner of my first mkb, a custom VA87M.

I ordered direct from Varmilo and griited my teeth to agree to the exorbitant shipping fee via FedEx. Basically USD130 for KB and 30 for shipping. Ouch, ouch, ouch. But I don't care now.

I really like the feel of the MX Brown's. Smooth, light and quick. And the delicious sound the keys make. It reminds me of a keyboard that I can't remember... from long, long ago... back in the mainframe days.

I tested all the keys including caps lock and scroll lock LEDs. The scroll lock LED was troublesome as not much uses it. I'm on Linux, so opened a Virtual Terminal (VT) and ran a "ls - R /" to test. I've read gaming keyboards use scroll lock to control the LEDs, so if you are on Linux you might try opening a VT to configure them.

sweet. the fees involved are different from off-the-shelf retail units since it's a custom version.

glad you like it smile.gif

Yeah, I guess I'm a bit late getting into the mkb scene.

I read about the legends wearing off Filco's Keycaps pretty quick, so in the end I'm glad to have a Varmilo, and being able to choose the colours for each key separately was the deciding point.
