I have a Logitech G613 that I need a switch replaced. Anyone know of a trusted shop in Klang Valley area that does keyboard repairs, especially on Romer-G keyboards?

I am looking for brown switch. as for back lit, it is good to have but not essential. budget less than 500? of course it would be better if it is lower. i have heard of ducky before, but i think filco has better quality if i am not mistaken.

if you insisted on getting local units, ducky and ikbc are probably your options.

if you are ok with getting boards from taobao/tmall, you can also check out durgod. top choices imo are still filco, varmilo, and leopold.

Hi sifus, I'm planning to get a new mkb to replace my 7 yr old Cm storm quickfire rapid (black). After lurking in reddit and lowyat for a couple of days, I'm interested to give Ikbc, Ducky and Leopold's mkb a try.

Might any of u know where I might be able to test either brands mkb around KL/PJ area?

I however am curious why would you feel the need to change though if it's working fine, coz that Cooler Master QuickFire Rapid was and still is a somewhat decent board. Of course, it had a "flaw" (for some, not for me) that it doesn't have any lighting.

From time to time the keys will not respond when I type, sometimes it happens to the space bar and other times it's the other keys. The other reason being black keys are hella tiring for me after so many years of use. Esp when it comes to gaming.

Use so long time OEM, time to go for custom mechanical keyboard.
You can personalised the switch based on your preference, do tuning and layout you like.
Sounds better than get another OEM that built for mass population.

Just received mine today. Placed order in shopee on tuesday. Using Dhl ecommerce. I got it around 340+ with shipping.

Build quality quite good and quite heavy as well. Nice keyboard, still exploring the icue software and adapting to this new keyboard.

If cheap, why not? smile.gif

What i know is they using cherry switch, which is a standard and durable.
The downside is the bottom row is not standard, if you don't plan get any keycaps to replace, it's not a problem.
But, if you want decorate your board with better keycaps quality, and colorful keycaps, you just get other boards.

As long as cheap, it's good for entry although it's random brand.

I looked up some video of DIY custom mkb, looks really tedious to solder and stuff which I have no experience in.

to be fair, everything u do in this world is kinda tedious until u learn and get a hold of it.

so soldering might be tedious at first, it'll get easier over time.

else, u can ask someone else to build for u. icon_rolleyes.gif

for beginners, it's ok to start with whatever you want, because mkb modding is always about first-hand typing experience, and expectations built from previous experience. without these, you will not understand clearly the main differences between good and bad boards that match your own preferences.

most of us started with stock commercial boards, and worked our ways up. it's during actual usage we found out all sorts of good and bad about it. lessons will be learned, and then we move on.

(this is my own simplified classification, in the attempt to give a clearer big picture for beginners about different grades of mkbs, in terms of typing experience, i.e. typing feels and sound) very often, you can read posts in which terms like 'overpriced', 'entry-level' are used to associate with most stock commercial boards. this is because in terms of typing experience (after comparisons), mkbs can be divided into 2 main categories: commercial and custom. between commercial and custom, there will be a relatively significant gap. in each main category, there are entry-level, mid-end, and high-end builds. note that high-end builds in commercial boards are not necessarily expensive; and entry-level custom builds usually have better typing feels and sound than high-end commercial boards. along the way, you will also find out there are options that can only be found in custom builds that enhance typing feels and sound to become more optimal to your taste.

all the above will eventually lead to one conclusion: build a tuned entry-level custom with switches that you prefer.

however, this doesn't mean stock commercial boards are not relevant. they're always part of the experience-shaping process. furthermore, stock commercial boards still can be tuned for better typing experience to certain extents. a typical example is topre boards, or modular boards that support cherry mx style switches, because they're relatively easy to tune. with basic soldering and desoldering, you can tune soldered builds also.

my custom builds are mainly made by quovadis123 and grexer. i usually hand pick and purchase parts myself, modify and tune my builds to what i want, then subscribe to their soldering services. actually they can help to tune your builds also.

from your previous posts, you come from cherry mx black. i guess in terms of switches, you should try out lubed gateron yellow with milky housings. (65g; while still providing good stiffness, it's not tiring to type on) alternatively, you can use retooled black with 65-67g springs.

edit: talking about these custom builds, just received from quovadis123. hot and fresh biggrin.gif

i need to show case this, because it's really a clean and good job. note that the eva foam mod was made by myself so it's ugly.

Could always do tuning to the current board, swapping the switches, replacing the less responding switches, lubing it, spring swap it for lighter actuations. Sure, while it might still end up costing almost half of a new board, you get a customised, tuned experience that you can't get from a brand new commercial mechanical keyboard. Unless, of course, your next build is a custom build.

Custom board nowadays, just pick the parts you want, and service can build and send it back to you.
Unlike commersial board, which is come per set, give u cheap ABS keycaps (you paid for it), inferior stab (wobble and noisy), stock switch (scratchy).. Real sial lah.. Pay to get less.
The advice you get is different than newbie, because you owned a mkb for long time. It's time to step up the game.

For starter, can just tune your current board a little, to get some confidence level, and understand what custom users are using.
