QUOTE(Medico @ Nov 1 2011, 12:29 PM) Hi IMU seniors, if you're still around, I'm in the old curriculum and I'm just wondering how is Phase 1 OSCE score counted into our marks? I know in EOS3 and 5 there'll be 2 separate grades for Theory and OSCE, but is there another average score for 2 of this? How is it counted into our GPA? There is no average score combining theory and OSCE. Its a stand alone exam, which means failing one of them will have to resit for that part. and if you fail the resit, you'll have to repeat the semester, e.g: one can score an A for theory but fail OSCE twice, they'll still have to repeat the semester. I hope they have revoked their CSU teaching style, Dr Janet told us she almost had an heart attack during one of the teaching session.Sorry quite nervous about my OSCE, thanks. For GPA, I'm not very sure as I never see it printed in our result slip. Are you going for graduate entry PMS? |

Hi Gorila_, thanks for replying. Well not sure what to comment on the teaching style but what I heard is that sometimes there're different inputs from different lectures.
Yeap, hehe. This post has been edited by Medico: Nov 6 2011, 10:39 AM |

Confirmed offer. I finished my Alevels in June so applied for Feb intake on Actual results.
I was hoping you could tell me whether students are adequately taught at IMU. How is the teaching and are they prepared well enough for their transition to the PMS? let me know! |

Good luck for those new student @ imu. So far what i learnt here is how to torture ur brain cells to the max by cramming/overloading information at the shortest period of time before the exam.
Final sem here. @yufa - afaik pharm chem is different than pharmacy, u might have some shared modules with the pharmacy but thats about it, not sure whether u can take up masters in pharmacy, but most probably not. |

Entry requirement for it will be, if I'm not wrong, a 1st class honours will be preferred over a 2nd upper class, but you must at least achieve a 2nd upper class with an overall bandscore of 7.5 in IELTS to be considered. Good luck. |

QUOTE(Yeyechan @ Nov 13 2011, 12:11 PM) A recent agreement between IMU and University of Sydney was made to allow graduates with Bsc Pharm Chem(IMU) to further their education in Sydney's Mpharm program. Credit exemptions will be given and students will be allowed into the semester 2 of year 1 directly. This whole program takes 2 years to complete and according to the notice in IMU's site, this mpharm degree is registrable with Singapore and Australia's pharmacy council. just wondering.....if someone wants to be a practising pharmacist, why bother to do pharm chem, and then pharmacy....why not just enter pharmacy directly.....?Entry requirement for it will be, if I'm not wrong, a 1st class honours will be preferred over a 2nd upper class, but you must at least achieve a 2nd upper class with an overall bandscore of 7.5 in IELTS to be considered. Entry requirement for pharm chem is much lower, but yeah, i would agree with u, people who wanna do pharmacy might as well do it directly through pharmacy programme. And if u can't handle notes as thick as an oxford dictionary or even thicker, better dont do it But of course, i am not looking down on pharm chem either, its no laughing matter either, since most of the modules are shared with pharmacy, u are essentially doing pharmacy stuff This post has been edited by pipedream: Nov 13 2011, 04:04 PM |

QUOTE(limeuu @ Nov 13 2011, 12:47 PM) just wondering.....if someone wants to be a practising pharmacist, why bother to do pharm chem, and then pharmacy....why not just enter pharmacy directly.....? 1) Monetary reasons? Direct entry is expensive. People might opt to work for a few years prior to jumping into MPharm.(5%)2) Pre-U cannot make it(95%) Added on November 13, 2011, 4:15 pm QUOTE(pipedream @ Nov 13 2011, 04:03 PM) Oh that's hard then Err... I said at least a 2nd upper class a... But, it is University of Sydney we are talking here. You know what I mean??? =)It takes only 2 years to finish this MPharm program. If you calculate based on years spent for the whole course of study, 3 years pharm chem+2 years mpharm=5 years it's just one year extra compared to most of the direct entry MPharm programs in the world which is 4 years. And, it's cheaper. Unless you're comparing it to IMU's MPharm which both costs around the same, you can save quite some money. This post has been edited by Yeyechan: Nov 13 2011, 04:17 PM |

QUOTE(pipedream @ Nov 13 2011, 06:08 PM) Thats what i heard. i would hardly call the mbbs phase 1 programme in imu hard, although they however are strict with their exams, especially for the pms students, as all the pms are watching.....Added on November 13, 2011, 6:14 pmi just checked the minimum entry requirements....i did not realise the requirement for pharm chem is so low...... My medical friend failed his EOS2. I'm not in the same semester, but I'm studying for my coming EOS now. I'm not a good senior, I don't know what to advice him. I've totally forgotten everything about EOS2. & his biggest problem seemed to be SAQ =/ It seems that he knows! but he doesn't know how to apply it to the questions. does past years help? =/ where can we get the past years ah? Honestly I never really do past years ahahaha....

Honestly I never really do past years ahahaha.... SAQ is always the killer. The trend there is either SAQ or OSPE will be hard. Try not to fail that bad in SAQ and score good in OSPE, you'll pass your eos2 smoothly. I cant advise him much, try to stay calm?? I generally skipped all the BS question, and trust me, the medical sciences that time is hard as well. Try to do the question that you have read, build up the confidence, then go back to those questions that he had skipped.I thought past year question is at the photostate shop? try to ask the lecturers to double check the answer, after all that is just a student's compilation, accuracy is doubtful. |

Honestly I never really do past years ahahaha.... 1---Practise more in writing as fast and as much information as he can... Even though it doesn't make "perfect" all the time but at least it'll be better.2---Go for the remedial classes and eat up all the notes(Yes, ALL....! Never pick and choose) that are given by those lecturers and vomit them out SYSTEMATICALLY during resit. The lecturers are there to help them pass. If he doesn't make the effort, he should be the one taking responsibility of wasting his 70k and spending time looking for a new direction after failing medical school.
