I realise a correction is needed...am doing australian matriculation here in malaysia not in Aus.
No interview for UQ.IMU even for 2/12 is still feasible .

Ausmat scores will be converted to ATARs and equivalent, am sure. Are the terms and conditions imposed by UTAS similar for onshore and offshore? There's the standard results requirements, and the police and immunisation checks. I would think it's a standard conditional offer. A few more weeks till it's all over eh? All the best!

surely you can just google for it, or search the uq website?......

nah: http://www.uq.edu.au/study/program.html?acad_prog=2291

you can also combine with science or arts....

they have reduced the gpa requirement for the 1st 2 years, to be allowed to proceed to the 4 years mbbs programme, from 5.5 to 4.0..........so progression is practically assured, barring some catastrophic event......for people who get op1/atar99 to get in.....smile.gif

msian ausmat (sace or wace) and sam (sace) programmes and results are exactly the same as year 12 in all oz states (except qld) and ranked with an atar score......there is no conversion required.....

Wasn't aware of this! Good that it's standardised (save for qld). Some interesting threads at atarnotes.com as well.

Does anyone know if there's any difference in teaching/learning patterns between an undergraduate and graduate entry medicine in IMU?

how can a graduate student possibly catch up with his peers should he be matched UQ that only gives 2 years of clinical training prior to graduation?

no difference in phase 1........

most 'graduate' students in imu are NOT graduates.....they will then stay on in imu for another year to do research and a thesis, and then graduate with a b med sc degree from imu.....before transferring over to the pms for clinicals.....you need a 2nd upper to transfer......

thanks man. yep im aware of tht- ive got 1st class honours from UWA. research wise, ive got a pretty good portfolio. awaiting 2 publications -1st & 2nd authorship =D

but clinical training perse...even though students in the states get only 2 yrs of it and they still turn out fine, i'm still abit doubtful as to how UQ can manage 2 years when their competitor schools are doing more, perhaps some clinical exposure in IMU is sufficient?

you do know that if you have a degree other than imu's b med sc you cannot match to anu....

the 2 or 3 year clinical programme are all pretty similar in terms of actual total clinical exposure, probably about 90-100 weeks....the 3 year programmes give you more holidays, and the 2 year ones are very crammed and you will have very little holidays....

oh ok with the number of weeks now it's convincing.

haha, thanks limeuu but i'm not looking at anu. solely uq =) dw im applying other schools jz to cast a broader net. plus thrs talk tht uq's considering a change from mbbs to md in 2015,hopefully they're serious abt it so i can make it in time for it. thts a lvl 9 as compared to lvl 7 mbbs in aqf.

i think applying the aqf here is ridiculous, and NOT appropriate......

all medical graduates, whether through the undergraduate or graduate pathway, at the point of graduation, is the SAME, as far as medical knowledge and practice is concerned.....a prior degree confers NO advantage, as far as medical practice is concerned....

therefore, it will be a mistake to say that because a uni decides to change the name of the same course to a masters, you go up 2 ranks in the aqf.....

i am not sure what this new aqf ranking is for.....but for medicine, i think it is inappropriate......but if they must band medicine, it should be at level 8.....it should NOT be at level 7, as it cannot be the same as other ordinary degrees....

question is, where is the fellowship going to fit?.....doctors do NOT take masters or doctorates as a normal pathway to post-graduates.....but based on level of expertise, fellowships and accreditation as specialists must surely be level 10....if such ranking is insisted.....

imu got masters meh?.............or you are referring to their pharmacy programme which strangely awards a masters as a first degree?........

as to the "best" med uni in Malaysia............no lah.......remember the majority will twin to overseas, so are not awarded the imu degree.........the local programme is nothing to shout about.........

on paper, the best ipta med uni would be um, and ipts would be monash........well established med schools and programmes.........with degrees that has a reasonable international repute..........
*
Monash malaysia not recognised by singapore though. my point is even if monash mbbs appears to be more prestigious than IMU local mbbs, it is only because of the title "monash".

that is a very old post dug out.....

about 1/2 the monash class, both batches graduated and graduating now, have got houseman jobs in oz.....so it is obviously better than imu's local degree...which is not recognised out of msia and sri lanka.....

Hi IMU seniors, if you're still around, I'm in the old curriculum and I'm just wondering how is Phase 1 OSCE score counted into our marks? I know in EOS3 and 5 there'll be 2 separate grades for Theory and OSCE, but is there another average score for 2 of this? How is it counted into our GPA?

Sorry quite nervous about my OSCE, thanks.

hey guys, i just got a conditional offer from imu for medic local. I applied for PMS program as my first choice and local as my 2nd choice. So is it because i'm not eligible for pms or all places were taken up for pms that makes me get local program?

Hi Kane_wwe_07, if you're applying for the upcoming Feb intake yea chances are it may be full. But the grad pathway should still be available, anyway try calling them to find out. How about your results? I'm not sure how true it is but I heard before cases where their results are eligible for Local but not PMS.

conditional offer implies you have not got your pre-u results, so you are probably a oz year 12 student (sam/ausmat) or an a-level student presenting for the end of year exam.....

what are the condition(s) given?.....

obviously the undergrad pms option is the most popular, and rumour has it that they are already all filled for 1/11, so that may be why they offered the local stream.....

while there is officially no difference in the selection criteria for the pms and local stream, it is often noted that due to demand, the cut-off for pms stream appears higher than for the local stream.....but really, just as for the matching exercise, the selection process is just as opaque......

Added on November 2, 2011, 12:37 pmjust to update, my relative has been offered pms undergrad with a condition of ATAR95, and 80% in chemistry and biology.....that last condition is mmc requirement, but they do not realise there is no raw marks in sam, and the subject scores are given out of 15.....ie a+=15/15, a+=14/15, a-=13/15, etc.....

strange thing is, the deadline is way before the sam results are released.....

the as result is just an indication on what your likely performance in a2 is.....

what is their condition for you?.....atar95 is about aaa.....

as for deferred entry, it is possible usually, but whether they will offer a pms place, that will depend on what their pms cut-off is.....as indicated by my relative's offer, there are obvious still pms undergrad places available...
