I don't understand the quote about Acer being "Not Branded"....
I always thought Acer was an international company?

But anyway, the Gemstone's graphics card is running on a nVidia 8600GT while the DV6508 uses an nVidia 8400 GS.....

If it was using the same 8600GT as the Acer, I'd buy that already..........

I'm not biased towards Acer..... if you read that in my posts, forgive me.

I just find that the Acer Gemstone still beats everyone else in terms of price/performance thus a better value.

If HP came up with the same model at even a RM1000 premium, I wouldn't mind getting HP because I KNOW HP has good after-sales service compared to Acer......

I have to agree with blacktrix on Acer, I as an ex-Acer user, would have to say Acer is not that bad. Like he said, it is more focused on the budget, so of coz it seems inferior if ur comparing it with an Asus in term of built-quality, performance etc. In terms of budget, Acer delivers quite a decent performance I would say.

There is nothing wrong with Acer, if u willing to spend another RM2k just because u want a more branded item, I would say thats unnecessary. I owned Acer TravelMate 4210 (or sumthing like that) for about a year and a half, sold it to my friend like 4 months ago. He dropped the Acer quite a few times, but it still working flawlessly with a minor crack on it (it happened in front of my very own eyes). I have to say it deserved the crack, given the number of times it has dropped from a chest-height kitchen table.

Before anyone saying that I have a low taste in terms of brand, Im currently using Alienware's m9700. Of coz Acer or even Asus couldnt beat it in term of performance, stability etc. Just that i wanted to share my personal experience that I have with Acer. Trust me, Acer is not as bad as we think it is. there u go, my 2 cents.

ADDED: about Acer GemStone, I still agree with Blacktrix, for the price : performance ratio, it is quite an interesting deal, if u asked me.

Added on June 20, 2007, 6:15 pmand if u play counter-strike alot, Acer is quite stylish if ur an acer in ur team and game, if u understand what i mean. Yeah, the lingo used is "ace", so as the player who "ace" the round or rounds, u will be labeled as "Acer". Seems cool to me.

Added on June 20, 2007, 6:30 pmDo u know they even tested the customer services and supports of most of laptops brand for this month Laptop Magazine? Do u know what HP gets? HP couldnt manage to get even a B. They even compare the on-hold minutes that they put u on, i couldnt recall but HP is definitely not the best in terms of that. Of course they do it in average, not just with one call. HP sells better, but that doesnt mean it have better products. If we wanna start comparing in terms of the hottest selling and services, then of coz the winner is Dell. We all know Dell's products arent that attractive and good in terms of performance, durability etc in the first place.

Again, dont define a product by the company's name. Here specifically in my place, no one including mac user dont have any problems with their lappies, the only brand owner that come to me with "loud fan" or "overheating gpu" is in fact, HP. Yet another 2 cents.

p/s:The best for the test is Gateway, if u wanted to know.

haha its fine, i understand even my little bro owns a HP. I was just throwing some facts, to share with users and forumers here as guidance. I dont like how ppl gets infected with misrepresentation of certain products, such Acers just bcoz of some opinions of other forumers. If i saw something like that, i usually will come to straighten anything that i feel is not fair. Give em credits that they deserved, rite?

now that one is free. In fact im out of coins too tongue.gif

At the moment, these laptops arn't even available on the market, so in terms of performance, there's few who have tested and benchmarked them..... but I still think they should at least add in a 8600GS for that price.......

From the looks of it at the Roadshow in 1Utama the other day, it looks quite nice and feels about right...... but the "model" there showing off the new laptop says it's "only a test model, so it hangs quite alot".... doh.gif

I kinda like the outside design pattern, but a little "ah beng" for my taste.....

I actually want ppl to read about the Acer thing that I posted, but fine with that.

@diner,
I have no idea about Malaysia's laptop lines for the time being. Im sure some of forumers will come to the rescue for that.

@kenzai82,
yes u can to answer u but just some parts like ram, HDD like that. I dont know for sure about graphic card and proc, but i might say u cant (that is what i read from LYN forums). Note that laptop is not as upgrade-able as dekstop. Unless ur living in the US or UK (or Japan i think), ur options wont be as much as they could have.

ADDED: It is very specific on the model too, not just the brand. Couldnt say much but personal experience, my lappy have options from 7800gtx to 512mb 7900gs for the max it can go. I could have 256mb 7900gs (or 2 x 256mb 7900gs) too which i currently have. But that is Alienware, so my point is, it really depends on the model u have, regardless what brand it is. Some are easily upgrade-able and some are not. U can call HP service or support for more specific details like that, and the availability of the product could also be a problem too. U might need to get it online i believe.

When do u will think u need it? Is that a fixed budget or it can grow over months? StarCraft 2 will be coming soon, and it says will be like somewhere in the end of this year or most prolly next year. If u need it quick for schooling for the next semester or sumthing like dat, then get what john jay's suggest or try to research on Dell's like if they are having student discounts, coupons, go-to school deals etc. Last month the 23-years anniversary cut down 23% some of the products. Never afraid to call em if they are toll-free, ask for whatever discount they can give and im sure they will answer you. U can go details like mentioning ur budget and see what the best they can offer. They prolly couldnt negotiate like 3rd-person does, but they can throw-in student discount or coupon or wuteva. Just ask em.
