nope,d40/40x only supports auto focus with af-s lenses. other than that, it's manual focus with G,D type lenses.Nikon D40x VS Canon 400D, which is better?

QUOTE(yewkhuay @ Apr 30 2007, 11:12 PM) IMO the D40 vs 400D comparison shouldn't be started in the first place, considering that the price alone is so far apart - that also we haven't brought other stuff in specifications for comparison. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Cano...non_eos400d.asp http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_d40.asp http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_d40x.asp |

QUOTE(clemong_888 @ May 2 2007, 06:38 AM) What I understand is Nikon applies more harsh in camera noise reduction. d40x pictures look less noise, but 400d pictures ratain more details. But overall, they should be quite close.d40x is using the same sensor and image processor as d80 right? |

But overall, they should be quite close. as i read, it compared with both nr on and off and both beats the 400d, so i would say everything is marginal. the d40 n d40x only lost to 5d d40x is using the same sensor and image processor as d80 right? |

i would prefer the d40x 2 the CANON over (COLOUR only)
other things canon is a winner eg: servo motor for focusing , 9 focus point , 27 jpeg burst shot |

Here are some of the example shots on USTC comparing 400D & D40...
![]() ![]() My friend D40 Picture Setting is Normal. 35mm f5.6 1/60 ISO800 EV+0 My 400D Picture Setting is Standard - Saturation +1. 55mm f5.6 1/60 ISO800 EV+0.7 What I like about Nikon D40 1. Colour (Maybe Canon can set like Nikon's?) 2. How they display the information of your pictures when you review 3. Nice Interface 4. Auto ISO (I'm not sure others find this useful or not) 5. Battery more power 6. Better Kit Lens??? Correct me if I'm wrong... And hopes this help... QUOTE Auto ISO increases the ISO automatically as it gets dark so I don't have to. It shoots at ISO 200 in good light, and at 1/15 of a second (or any speed you choose) it starts ramping up the ISO to a maximum of 1,600 (or any ISO you choose) as it gets darker. Only if it gets still darker will it let the shutter speed go below 1/15 at ISO 1,600, exactly as I'd do manually. I explain how to set Auto ISO and select the shutter speed at which the ISO starts to increase and the maximum ISO to which it will increase in the Custom Setting 10. I set Auto ISO to 1,600 max because the noise from the D40 at ISO 1,600 looks much better than blur. I set 1/15 because my Nikon 18-200mm and the kit 18-55mm lens gives great results down to 1/15. I adjust the lowest shutter speed setting in the AUTO ISO menu if I change conditions or lenses. Unlike film, my D40 looks great at high ISOs, so I use them anytime I need them. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/modern-exposure.htm http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40/users...hooting.htm#iso http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40/users...s-custom.htm#10 Edited...
