Coating is for shining not for protection, nuff said

That's true. But even the shine doesn't last long so the whole thing is a waste of money.

Come on, don't be silly by wasting your money in so called "coating". Especially sierra slow. It's a rip off and scam.
And also "glass coating" which is a useless as u need to do maintenance to protect the coating to protect the paint. Economy is not good so cash is king. Just wash as usual and if it's really an eye sore go and repaint your car after a couple of years. One layer paint will only cost less than RM2k and your car will look brand new and shiny again.

What kind of paint below RM2k?

RM2K can get you quite a decent paint job for metallic paint of the same colour. I've done it before on a D-segment sedan and it includes touching up all the dents and dings.

Well what you pay is what you get. For less than RM2k paintwork respray (some more D segment sedan, really?), they will use cheaper ingredient and maybe less proper pre-repaint preparation. Consumer will only always look at the price more than the value behind. (FYI: I do not own any car paint workshop, I am just like anyone of you, the normal consumer)

IMO, coating does serve its purpose to certain extent. If you have budget you can go for it, else normal waxing will work as well. Both wax and coating serve as sacrificial layer on top of ORIGINAL manufacturer paintwork, but the durability and level of protection are the key differences between both products.

But like what other said, after coated your car, it doesn't escape you from the responsibility of washing your car regularly. It makes maintenance easier and less dirt, similar to car that is protected with wax (not all kind of wax). Forget about stone chipping protection for coating as the thickness of coating is approximately <2um after fully cure.

One more thing to note : the prep stage before coating is crucial as well. More on the craftsmanship and the level of detail. Also, good quality coating will be less prone to spotting issue than other.

I am on my 3rd car ownership, and never once I felt there is need to do any coating. Not even wax.

- Never treated with any coating or wax
- Never been polished
- Park outside under the sun at home
- Park outside near tree at office. Somedays will be covered with tree saps and other tree stuff. Somedays, will be covered in bird shit. Birds really love to rest on those trees. Partially under the sun.
- All cleaned at car wash using whatever cleaner that they use.
- Usually washed once a week (coz of the bird shit).

Apart from scratches, after car wash the car paint looks as normal as any other cars after 6 years.

If you intend to keep your car for over 10 years, then perhaps coating would be worth it..

I have seen car with coat and non coated. After 3 years the coated car shinnier than non coated car. Exact same colour. I guess it prevent the paint from oxidation hence the shine too

Yes, coating can inhibit oxidation formation better than normal carnauba wax (synthetic polymer sealant can does a good job as well) due to the structure and properties of polysiloxanes (AFAIK,good coating nowadays should at least be using this. There are other type of silanes as well).

As you know that the car coating is getting common, here would like to conduct this survey for the public knowledge especially as the reference for the car owner looking for the coating.

After submission, you will able to view the survey result.

It's nothing to do with oxidation. The shine comes from the coating. When it wears off the car will look like any untreated car.

Can’t compare against a car which has never done waxing and polish. Guess it’s whether you do coating which lasts for 2 years vs regular waxing

Hi guys, I have done glass coating on my car and wondering what shampoo is suitable to use and looking for your recommendation. My Coating shop told me that my current Meguair Wash and Wax is not suitable but they have yet to tell which is. Looking for your feedback. Many thanks.

if you want real protection, get Paint Protection film.

protects against stone chips and most hazards.

Coating isnt too effective with stains and bird poop will eat into coating.

but, paint protection films are expensive. but they work.

wraps are also susceptible to scratches wrapping supplier says still need to do polishing which cost around 2k... bengang my relative

I did at Sensha Coating Malaysia. Love the results.

Any recommendations for coat-friendly shampoo?

Thanks above for the Sonax option.
