if you wash your car, 2 times monthly (or 2 weeks once). you do not need any coating.

Coating is meant to strengthen the clear coat, but you still NEED to wash your car (contrary to popular believe)

Coating makes car cleaning easier, but you would still need to clean need it every 2 weeks, to avoid water spotting.

Eg: typical car wash, is 30 mins, with coating, you will need only 15 mins as the dirt wont stick too hard.

So, coating has its benefits, but it is not necessary.

Thanks for info bro thumbup.gif

Assuming many will still wash their car after coating, would like to know their opinion / experience as well.

parking here. I am facing the same dilemma as you. Survey around so many coatings being offered ranging from RM600 to RM3000. I dunno if I should proceed since I just got my new car 2 weeks ago. hmm.gif hmm.gif hmm.gif

In short, if you like the shiny shiny new look or want to further enhance the lustre, coating can help.

If for the purpose of protection, despite whatever level hardness advertise, you'll feel conned.

if you want real protection, get Paint Protection film.

protects against stone chips and most hazards.

Coating isnt too effective with stains and bird poop will eat into coating.

but, paint protection films are expensive. but they work.

I wanted to do coating, and did some research and asking around. I ended up not doing it as you need to pay more attention to the "coating protection", which beats the purpose of applying it anyway.

Bird poo, rain stains, chipping, scratch protection are pretty mere marketing talk. The vendor will inform you that must immediately clean it off or else will leave a mark (My mind was like "huh!!? What the heck? Have to baby it even more than without coating")

The coating layer is so thin, almost no effect to environmental damage.

So again to summarise, coating for the purpose of maintaining/enhancing the shine, yes go do it. For main purpose of protection, you'll be disappointed.

Will the pricing make the differences? I mean the outcome. Because there are plenty of coating available out there. That’s why I’m so confused.

This looks expensive. I don’t think norm Malaysians can afford for the whole car unless super duper rich. I’m wondering the coating in the market right now that cost u few thousand ringgit really worth it... 🤔

Not really, I had that paint protection film on my car few years back. Cover my front bumper, side mirrors and headlights.

Over the years, the films on the bumpers did have chip off spots. When we drive at 130km/h, those tiny size stones fly like bullets. Color of the films also changed. For the headlights, the film used was thicker. Though no chip off spot, it did have swirls and scratches.

The price for paint protection film is not cheap, close to 3k just for front bumper, side mirrors and headlights. So, for my new cars, I don't go for it any more.

Come on, don't be silly by wasting your money in so called "coating". Especially sierra slow. It's a rip off and scam.
And also "glass coating" which is a useless as u need to do maintenance to protect the coating to protect the paint. Economy is not good so cash is king. Just wash as usual and if it's really an eye sore go and repaint your car after a couple of years. One layer paint will only cost less than RM2k and your car will look brand new and shiny again.

TS, better that you get a recoat of the clear coat to better range like this :
https://automotive.nipponpaint.com.my/produ...=nax_premila_2k

(look under "top coat clear")

Likely cost lesser than those so called "coatings" and may last better as just maintain like regular. This product should be even better than those from factory.

Tks all for valuable advice. Was thinking of one of these as paint protection. But as I routinely do 150kmh,realise both these process are waste of money.

As said, after some years, a fresh top cote is a better choice!
