No point holstering your weapon. NPCs dont mind you shoving the weapon up their noses.

Hey guys, i noticed something weird about lucy west too. was wondering if any of u can answer my question...

one day i went into the megaton armory... well i got the key from somewhere... went in and fought with the deputy sheriff robot.. killed him, looted the entire armory, came out..

here's the weird part. directly opposite the armory far away is the saloon right? and i supposes thats where lucy west goes to every morning for her drinks? funny thing is, as soon as i exit the armory, lucy west drops down from the corridor and freaking died. no kidding. she dropped like how a real human would and died bleeding. =.= is this some scripted event or some really well crafted bug??

then i started remembering, i rested aroudn 8 hours till morning b4 i went into the armory and thats probably when lucy started walking frm her house to the saloon... and maybe the game came up with some weird pathfinding error... but still!! FTW

Hoong, you're giving FO3 too much expectation. Fallout 3 requires COMPLETE suspense of logic. You're not supposed to think when playing the game. It's better to play the game as a moron because if you put in any intelligence into it you'll find an infinite array of questions.

Happened to me too... I told the Sheriff about the deal to blow Megaton, and watched the confrontation in the saloon. THen when the bad guy wants to shoot the sheriff I went into VATS and capped him. After that, the sheriff was nowhere to be seen, so I walked outside... only to have the Sheriff drop from the sky, crash in front of me and died.

Bugs? No, that's just how Beth make games. It's their idea of humor.

Given that fallout 3 was released quite lately, its pretty obvious that there would definitely be bugs in the game given from the scale of the game. When Fallout 1 was released, the game was plagued with gamebreaking bugs and typos,  but with strong community support and Interplay's fast patch releases, the game was very playable. I doubt you had purchased the game(Fallout 1) when it was just released, why criticize Beth when the previous Fallout's were also quite buggy during initial release?
*
I think you're confusing something. Fallout 1 was perfectly playable WITHOUT the patches. And most of its bugs come from scripting bugs which Interplay fixed in a short matter of time. Mind you, when I got Fallout 2 I was still on dial-up, and had no idea what a patch means, let alone install one.

Beth's bugs however, were of another league. People dying for no reason, AI bugs, crash to desktop every 10 minutes, graphic glitches, and not to mention non-bug horrible design decisions (following a mech into battle. Wow, how come I never thought of that? *sarcasm) plague the game that is beyond any patch could fix.

Bugs can be fixed by patches. Bad design is forever.

And ironically, that's Beth's greatest joke in the game.

It's easy if you play the game with a keyboard&mouse combo and circle strafe the wholetime while fighting. That's the basis of every fps game.  smile.gif
And the damn game is really easy even on Very hard mode  smile.gif

Ah. Find the xuan long assault rifle (stupid name BTW), up your repair and small arms skill to 100 both, and forget about VATS. VATS is for pussies who can't play FPS but want to look cool doing it. Like buying a retarded kid a pair of sunglasses to make him look cool.

The kid will only use the sunglasses to poke his own ass but well... at least you tried sad.gif

My god. Please tell me you're kidding. Die-hard RPG action fans? With a game with primary school level writing and dialogue, not to mention the completely logic rape eskimowood linear main quest?

I don't get the die-hard part. Die-hard RPG fans would know well to steer clear of this package of pure retardedness.

Fallout 1 was indeed perfectly playable without patches given that you are willing to face all the bugs, I still remember the game corrupting my save data.  cry.gif And following a mech into battle doesn't really sound like bad design considering that soldiers go into war with tanks  hmm.gif
*
Funny, cos I didn't notice any bugs in FO1 when I played it, compared to my dissapearing car in FO2. And yeah FO2 corrupted my save data too and I had to start from the beginning. Which pretty much pissed me off but now, looking back, I've played FO2 (unpatched) for more than 10 times already. And that's amazing, considering my play-and-ditch attitude in most games.

Following a mech into battle isn't wrong. Having the mech kill all your enemies without you lifting a finger is. And with unkillable team mates, I fail to find any challenge in the final battle. Heck, the memorial is an even bigger joke. You walk into the door, kill a couple of enclaves (or sit back and let Sarah kau tim it), turn a corner and you're at the end of the game.

Zero challenge at all. I don't even have to think.

I assume that you have not achieved fallout nirvana.  rolleyes.gif

bugs are problems with this newest iteration of fallout-in-disguise, yes, but they are not the reason it failed. it failed as a fallout game because the developers wanted to milk money from the fallout franchise, and thus purchased the license and developed a game out of it.

Wanna know why they made the playstyle switch of morrowind to oblivion? easy - to make it accessible to consoles.
Wanna know why they made it accessible to consoles? to make fast cash.

fallout 3 is just that, it is an game based on an intellectual predeccessor that just got dumbed down for the consoles crowd. no offense, but to those defending this game in the name of "bringing it to the mainstream", since when does fallout need to go mainstream? Kids who go on about how awesome crysis/ME/doom is/was should just sit out of an epic like fallout.

no offense to the consoles crowd out there too, but those consoles are never meant for true cRPG. Yes they're good for quick, mindless action games but never, ever RPGs. heck, i cant even read sentences more than 5 lines a non-HDTV. even producer tim cain once said that cRPGs are not suitably explored through FP mode. Eventually, someone (or something as great as the original Fallout) will change this fact and break the barriers and change my mind about this situation, but that thing will never be something as unrevolutionary as fallout 3, and until then i shall rest my case. To add to my pain, they recently announced Diablo 3 using top-down isometric view.

What we fans really hope for bethesda is, please don't rape our beloved franchise by turning it into something it is not. Fallout 3 to fallout is not like Starcraft 2 is to Starcraft. i wouldnt mind if they used another name or even a fallout spin-off for their game, but why must they put it under the fallout franchise just so we will spend our money on them?
*
That is why I pirated Oblivion and Fallout 3, while planning to buy Mass Effect original (downloading jack sparrow version to see if my rig can run it) and perhaps Dead Space.

Fallout 3

Player Requirements:
- Bad command of Engrish
- Zero experience in previous Fallout games
- Prefers movies to books
- Prefers twitch action FPS to actual RPG
- Complete suspension of disbelief

We are not responsible for possible disappointments if the above requirements are not met. You have been warned.

I never bought a console before so wouldn't really be so sure about "quick, mindless action games". I wouldn't mind if a game goes to a console or gets dumbed down if the developer wants to earn more but I do get annoyed when I see ads in-game. It is also a surprise to me when I heard that the company (Interplay) that created the Fallout series went broke and had to sell the game to Beth. The gaming scene has also become a place where you either join the consoles or produce a pc exclusive game that will sell less and pirates will pirate the game more than your sales (I doubt most of the forumers bought an original copy of the game). That is why I never complained about dumbing down games for consoles, these developers have to survive since the PC platform has been so badly pirated.
Don't blame beth, blame the pirates for killing Interplay.  cry.gif
*
The problem with Fallout series is that it is a niche. Just like Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate not being able to match FF's sales figures.

I have a big problem with "dumbing" down games. I can't recall when was the last time I played a really brilliant game. The last one that awed me is Bioshock, and that was on its story and plot, especially the nice twist in the middle that slightly broke the fourth wall.

Check your facts. Interplay had to sell off several IP (one of them is Fallout) to survive the bankruptcy.

Probably Fallout 3 is overrated.

Wait. Lemme get this right. You're not an RPG fan, and you're not a FPS + RPG fan. So why even consider Fallout 3 in the first place? You'd have more fun in STALKER.

Only play Fallout 3 if you love hiking simulators.

But i'm more to FPS and action adventure..so thought Fallout 3 is the best coz its combine RPG + FPS + Adventure...but based on your previous post it seem
Fallout 3 is lacking of something. For me it lacking of dynamic in combat and the storyline get confusing after 2-3 hours gameplay..+ bunch of unnecessary and unrelated quest.
*
1) Fallout 3 = FPS?
Don't be tricked. Fallout 3 only has a handful of guns, that handles the same. No aiming down the iron sights, and sniping is a joke. If you are a FPS fanatic, you will groan at the horribly slow movement of your character while every single enemy moved at least two times faster than you (not to mention the horrible AI of both your allies and enemies). If you're looking for an FPS in Fallout 3, be prepared to be extremely disappointed (DAMN I always spell it as dissapointed...).

2) Storyline
For me, the storyline isn't confusing at all. In fact, it is downright laughably simple that I can sum up in one single sentence.

Fallout 4 wish list:

1) Isometric/3rd person view combat
Isometric combat can still work. What they need to do is to offer three modes of combat - turn-based, paused-based and real time. The innovations possible here is to implement an intelligent cover system, in which enemies, allies and you yourself are able to take cover behind various stuff and even blind fire from those covers. Think of the perks that could aid to this combat style.

Of course, in turn-base the cover system would pretty much be hard to implement, but I'm sure with a little brainstorming it would work. D&D transited well from turn-based to pause-based right?

2) Completely destructible environment
You can blow up an entire town by rigging enough explosives around town. Or you can blow your way into a building by using some heavy machinery. Or just chip away the walls with a minigun. Or rocket launcher.

Destructible environments are nothing new, but having the ability to mow down a building would be bad ass in an RPG.

3) Everybody hates vault dwellers
Make the world so that nobody likes vault dwellers. Hey, they were the ones who shut the world out during the nuclear fallout, so why would anybody want to help any dude wearing a vault suit?

4) Fully rendered talking heads
Forget about in-game cut scenes. Bring back talking heads and give them full rendered sequences. This is what makes them memorable - the few key person in the game that stood out from the rest.

5) Epic plot
C'mon, creating pure water for people is a good story? How about something more epic, like the hero's vault being invaded in the beginning and having the hero escape the vault with only a holotape with a cryptic message. And then turns out that the only survivor of the vault, you, holds a valuable key that several major factions wants, only to find out in the end that this whole shebang was an elaborate conspiracy weaved by a hidden antagonist intending to play the factions against each other. Add a twist to the hidden antagonist being somebody the hero knows very well? That would create enough choices in the game (which faction you choose, how would you rally the wasteland to face the new threat) to make an RPG player drool for months.

6) No more mini-games
Mini games suck. If I want to play mini-games, I'd go play flash games. They have no place in an RPG and its just a complete waste of time. Let character skills and dice rolls determine everything.

7) Memorable NPCs
NPCs with history, hidden agendas and even manipulate and betray you in the middle of the game would rock. They should have individual personalities and being nice to them won't always work. Some would need you to use intimidating or seductive talk to improve their perception of the player while others just don't like assholes.

8) Innovative conversation system
Characters should have a "mood" system (Lynnet in Vault City is a good example) in which they would hold grundges to the player if he says the wrong thing. Punish the player for making certain choices. Forget about those crybabies and let players learn the ways of the wasteland THE HARD WAY.

9) Proper gore
Let me rip a super mutant in half with a minigun or tear off half a torso from a bandit with a well placed gauss rifle shot.

I'm not a big fan of customizable weapons as in picking up random junk and turning it into a weapon. No. I'd rather have stuff like STALKER in which you can attach a scope to a rifle, get an extended magazine, change the flamer's delivery system, or replace capacitors in the gauss rifle to something better. Weapon and armor configurations would rock. Imagine customizing a power armor by replacing its hydraulic motors and gyroscope coordinators with advanced microprocessors to improve agility instead of strength?

I forgot this:

10) Ambiguous Morality
Punish the player for attempting to be a "good" guy. Make a town get massacred if the player helps the sheriff kill a gang leader (or exile the gang). Turns out this decision later would lead to the town getting waylaid by some random bandits and without the firepower of the gang, the town is laid to waste.

Or have the player help some poor ol' beggar only to be drugged and robbed of all his belongings.

Punish the player for being too "good" in a very naive way, and let the player know that sometimes in the wasteland, being badass is just a necessity for survival.

actually if u put in Fallout 1/2 term, ppl usually go goodguy coz it give better exp than badguy quest (more quest u can do as good guy compare being badguy). n wat i really wish for is balanced quest for both type of karma (good n bad n perhap they can add in neutral one too). to put it, if u had good karma, u will miss out same amount of quest/detail if u go for badguy unless with cult personality perks.
*
That's what I hate about games nowadays. People are so creatively bankrupt that the only thing they understand is good vs. evil. The world isn't like that. You can "help" a good person only to realize you're doing more harm. Be nice to somebody only to have that person cling to you and leech off your everything.

Being bad should make sense in the game. Not every "bad" person in this world is a psychotic murderer bent on killing others first and then ask questions later.

FO1/2 tried but failed in this manner, but in its sequels there was a great chance to flesh out more on this. I mean, post-apoc? That's like the best setting for moral ambiguity. Too bad Beth never seem to grasp the idea of moral ambiguity at all.

well wat i mean is, having bad karma will poll u extra quest as much as u become goodie ol boy. Try Fallout 2 for instant, if u join slaver, see how many quest u lost due to it. n u gain minimally for it costs, hence no one really bother being slaver as it profit less than no becoming 1.

i wanna to choose to be slaver n become raider n gain all new possible bad guy quest (which cant be attained when u r good guy) to make wasteland fill with slaver n raider without losing a quality of earning good exp/profit than becoming good guy.

n again, bout Ambiguous Morality, maybe they could add those Lawful, True n Chaotic if u wan it tat much. Lawful Evil mean ur good guy or just happen to help bad guy. or Chaotic Good, u help good ppl but using bad way by killin other than talking em out. but i wonder if it would make any good. hmm.gif
*
Wrong on D&D part.

Lawful, Neutral and Chaotic is NOT moral ambiguity. It is just how a character reacts to rules and regulations. Lawful evil MEANS you're an evil person, but then you follow the LAW set by your superior. Baators of the nine hells are a good example. They have a strict military structure that they follow unquestioningly, but they are evil because well, they do evil stuff. Neutral means they follow the law only when it suits them (thieves, assassins) and Chaotic evil means you're one maniacal sonnuvab**** (insane mages, necromancers, lone bandits).

It doesn't change the "nature" of a person. It merely reflects how well that person fits into law.

Your understanding of this is way off my friend.

Actually, Oblivion IS retarded. The level of writing and dialogue is atrocious, but at least better than Fallout. The reason why cracksys said it is retarded is because compared to Morrowind, Oblivion lacks its predecessor's depth and playability, sacrificing those for eye candies and console-friendly interfaces, not to mention the completely stupid radiant AI.
