Seriously, games are beginning to look like our education system now. Getting dumber so that retards can feel good about themselves. Railroading, 10 hour long tutorials, level scalling, yada yada... that's how stupider games are getting nowadays.

No thanks not me. Dragon Age has that Mass Effect stink for some reasons.

A game that crashes but still gain fans? Is that a drop in expectation or an increase in patience? I'm guessing both.

From what I know, updates are there for a reason. Try updating to SP2 instead of staying in SP1. It has other benefits you know. But for some reasons (like software development) you are forced to use SP1, it might be a plethora of reasons - from .NET to DirectX to graphics driver. It's kind of hard to pinpoint what's the exact cause actually.

My best advise is still to play it on an updated windows.

ORLY. Seems like more than 50% of the posts here are on condemning the game. Yeah, it's a popular piece of crap.

Lesson number 1: Use the crosshair.

Notice the + stuff in the middle of your screen? That's called a crosshair. When you move your mouse it will move together. Point that towards the enemy and press FIRE. Shoot in short bursts because a sustained burst will throw off the crosshair. And remember - the bullets only hit where the crosshair points, so you need to practice using it.

Lesson number 2: Use cover.

Because your character is not in god mode, learn to duck around corners and find something to hide behind if enemy firepower is too overwhelming. That is the basis of ranged combat.

Lesson number 3: Kill more, loot more.

Every person you kill drops ammunition, and therefore to sustain your ammunition levels just make sure you spend less ammo killing the other person than he does dropping them. For example, a typical raider might drop 50 bullets per corpse. Try not to spend more than 50 shots to kill that bugger then.

Taking a deep and meaningful franchise and then dumbing it down to a mere hiking simulator is NOT a piece of art.

RPG? Baldur's Gate Series, Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1, Fallout 2, KOTOR 1, Arcanum... the list goes on and on. Notice there's no new stuff here.

Actually I wrote that post as sarcasm. But you're game enough to take it like a man, so I'll impart you with real knowledge.

First and foremost, upgrade your weapon skill. If you use small arms more, upgrade that so that it's at least 100% before you start to see yourself getting a surplus of ammunition. Having a high weapon skill ensures two things - you hit more often in real time, and you hit more often in VATS. This means, you hit more often. Get it? You hit more often. Let me drill this one more time. You hit more often.

When you hit more often, you waste less ammunition. Get it? That's how you save up on ammo.

One more thing - know the area. If the area has lots of raiders, use a hunting rifle or assault rifle. In short, use the weapons that your enemy uses. Scavenge ANY ammo, because they are weightless and you can carry tons of them without repercussions (see why I hate FO3 now?). When you want to venture into areas that don't use lots of guns, stock up on ammo before you go. I used to have more than 3k ammo for each gun type (hunting rifle, submachine gun and assault rifle) when I try to hit the metro stations (that was before I got the ghoul mask).

It's pretty easy to stock up on ammo actually. You just need to scavenge a lot. 50% in the game and you'll be carrying ammunition that would put the USA's armory to shame.
