Haha the "4% bonus return" return sounds like a clickbait. The effective rate is never as high as 4% p.a.

Suggest you to change the thread description, pretty misleading to me...  tongue.gif

Well you can get 6.85% with RHB Smart, so why not?

is that means, could have keep it at minimum balance?

If by minimum balance you mean the "MAB goal", then no. Keeping it right at the goal means you get 0 bonus, because the bonus only applies to the excess. That's how I understood the examples and TNC.

Long story short, promotion for them, not so much for you lol

If you're an existing customer, I guess you would've received an email informing you of your Monthly Average Balance (MAB) Goal + details of the campaign.

Curious how CIMB decided this number and what's everyone's number, if any?

***Important TNC:
Basically it means the 4 p.a. bonus only applies to the excess amount above your MAB! So if your MAB is 45k and you throw in 45k, it's still 0 bonus p.a. laugh.gif

all gimmicks only to trick people
if your MAB so high effective rate will be very low...

such lousy offer bettre ignore them
when you can easily get 3.5 to 4% from digital apps or KDI

Ohh yours CIMB preferred seems to have more favourable rates. I mean, the bar is much higher yes, but at least I think the bonus applies to the whole RM 250k (the target MAB) in your example?

RM 45k MAB for kuli plebs like me is stupid as hell because I not only have to sacrifice interest of the base RM 45k, on top of that only the exceeded amount of up to RM 30k is applicable for the 4% (due to 75k limit). Like, it's quite scummy they're obscuring the mathematics behind, as if assuming most people wouldn't do the maths or read the TNC.

Meanwhile KDI and Versa can provide almost 4% without this much gatekeeping and it applies to the whole amount to a certain extent. I have 0 reason to break my other piggy banks to flatten THEIR piggy bank.

Interesting sharing though, I did not expect such differences with the Preferred.

My RHB account been having smaller amount last few months since threw all my liquidity in SSPN for the 1% ganjaran kesetiaan.

October was withdrawal date, so I dumped into Smart account. Did some quick maths to ensure RM100,000 monthly average balance.

I have joy@work status, and I satisfied the spend and pay conditions.

Received RM4.25 on 31st Oct and RM441.645 on 7th November. Based on my calculations that's 5.25% p.a. exactly (5.2499)

For November I add RM1041 to MAB (slightly above in case their maths rounding different) hopefully can maintain.

The problem with hitting 6.85% is that the remaining actions all quite expensive. Don't mention home loan/auto loan, RM100 brokerage fee is effectively spent to get RM135.89 additional return. Investing in their unit trust opportunity cost is high. Anyone tested converting to foreign currency/precious metal? What's the spread, and does it work if convert and then convert back?

Okay, I'll bring it over:-

QUOTE(xiaoxiaoshen @ Sep 24 2025, 04:49 PM)
own this acc for 2 months, it is simple n very straight forward.

50k (for max bonus rate) saving you got 0.05%
salary will bank in this acc, . thus acheive 2% (every month min 2k in n joy work).

and monitor the MAB got it 1k+ increase from previous month then transfer out the money for max bonus rate.
acheive 3 more tasks to have 4.8%. (1.6% each).

task 1: jompay using monthly SI RM25 for 3 bills is fine.
task 2 : spend credit or debit card, not need to trace, alway above 1k.

task 3 : optional. (can buy USD maybe, it seem low RM4.20 = USD1)  hmm.gif will it goes lower.

and the interest pay will calculated based on your MAB.
if >100k every months, thus you get

30days a month.
100k x 0.05% pa = RM4.11 credit to you account on end of the month
100k x 6.8% pa = RM558.90 credit to your acc on 7th of the month.
*
The task 3 is what you're talking about. Need multicurrency accoutn though? Let me chekc how to open that.

yes, multi currency acc, buy n sell USD within 1 minute will lose about rm20++ (based on rm3k conversion) but you gain on interest.
