I am in my early 30s and have just got a clean bill of health from a comprehensive medical check-up done recently.

Aside from the usual 36 critical disease which rides on my life insurance, I am interested to purchase a medical insurance as well. I was told by my doctor that I could obtain a policy with favourable premium supported by the lab report issued.

I was hoping if any member here could enlighten me on the various medical insurances available. Thanks.

Most established insurance company like AIA, Prudential, Great Eastern have a combination of life and medical.

however, there a medical insurance offered by several insurance company called Sihat Malaysia where the premium looks cheaper then my medical insurance with prudential. Somemore, my prudential got a life time limit whereas Sihat Malaysia is annual limit.

link below for more info on Sihat Malaysia

If you read the Terms, it mentions "It is a yearly Renewable Policy which means, the policy is renewable at the option of the Company"

Should you stuck by illness this year and the company have the option not to renew it the next year. Think carefully when considering such insurance

make sure you read the fine lines of the print especially the medical insurance from insurance company...if i m not mistaken those large life insurance companies actually reluctant to offer medical insurance (coz not much profit ) but have to offer because required by Bank Negara to do so.

also know how much coverage they provide you. check the terms and conditions and also find out how much coverage you may need in the event you may need it.

Its wise to have a medical insurance nowadays coz hospitalization cost is not cheap and admitting to hospital is not a rare thing nowadays....anyone could just gone in because of dengue coz by aedes and that alone will coz thousands of ringgit ! wink.gif

there are abt 16 insurance companies in Malaysia. Yes Sihat Malaysia is cheap but I got lots of ppl complaining abt this because lots of hospital not recognized and the claims is very slow. And is not cashless meaning i hv to pay yrself 1st on the bill then take the receipt to claim.

My advise is dun buy bcos of cheap end up wasting money if the card is useless.

Yes, make sure read & understand the Exclusion part (things are not covered under medical card) as lots of ppl presume this card is for everything once they see doctor even for fever or cough only.

In fact, insurer lossing lots of money for the medical claimants but yes no choice as required by bank negara so they have to cover customer according to their terms &conditions.

before purchase the medical insurance,
check and see the Panel Hospital list.
then study the terms and condition...
the limit..
1. Per Disability LIMIT
2. Emergency Accidental Outpatient Treatment LIMIT
3. Out-patient Cancer Treatment LIMIT
4. Out-patient Kidney Dialysis Treatment LIMIT

some annual limit is 100k, but Per Disability LIMIT only 25k/50k.
some company medical insurance is... AS CHARGE as long as u didn't use more than the anual limit..
for example : ING Mediplus.

i beg to differ... even sihat malaysia can provide considerably fast cashless claims, especially if you are admitted into hospital.... The trick really is to get a commited agent to handle ur claims.

I was admitted at sunway due to a dislocated shoulder. and had surgery as it would pop out every so often. claimed 16k while paying rm80 in cash for items not covered.

Ya, I agreed with you get a handful agent. Not only that doctor's report is also very important. But all these are really based on case to case. Some manage to claim out some not depend on the doctor's report lah.

You may be right. I have an agent friend who sounded a little reluctant to entertain my queries on medical insurance, and insisted that I relook at my life insurance policy again. I guessed probably the commission rate would be quite thin as well.

Viewed statistic report from my agent, this co worked up an outstanding result, bonus paid to policy holder, claim to policy holder, and capital.
He quoted me the Great Ea****n combined policy, with life, medi, and accident, quite affordable, RM150 per month, also depend on your budget.
Good luck.
Note : I am not promoting any insurance company here, just to share my point of view.

You may also check out Allianz Powerlink which understand is the cheapest protection plan in town with everything in a plan like life/36 critical illness/medical/PA. I only pay RM100 per month with low premium but high coverage. But depending yr age and wat coverage u r looking at lah.

Good luck.

I am not surprised. Most agents do not like to sell medical card as it can be very troublesome when their client makes claim. They have to coordinate with the doctors, hospital staff, insurance company and the client in order to process the claims.

Hi Creamer,

If you want, I can send you some literature for you to go through. Currently, I think it's one of the best medical insurance in the market at the moment.

Another example is Allianz medical card also as charge as long as annual limit not exceeded. ON TOP of that, you get 10 times of annual limit i.e. if the annual limit is RM100,000, you get Rm300,000 from other insurance company. As an Allianz customer, you get Rm1 million ringgit life time limit. With the consideration of inflation rate and oil price hike trend, medical expenses will definitely follow suit.
