I think it is just about time he leaves. If you look at the timeline, it is almost exactly 3-4 months after the transfer window and also a suitable period for servicing the resign notice when you tender.

Means the "palpable discord" might have happened during that period.

I mean try to imagine. Mourinho take digs on Conte about injuries over and over again in order for the media to pressure him (Conte) instead of him. So when in public, Mourinho offers a handshake. Do you thing he is worthy of a handshake on the pitch after all the shit he's been talking about Conte in pre match interviews?
