I'm sure most fans will because it is a common reaction. It's the same if someone were to 'kutuk' the car you were driving. You get offended. Seldom do you see Malaysian fans engage in friendly banter like in the UK. Everyone here takes it personally as though someone just insulted their mother.
*
And the irony would be that they would think that they're a hardcore fan. I personally feel they're immature. Winning and losing is part of everything in life.

To me; the most important criteria of being a hard-core fan would be a dedicated support to the team, but a belief in the club's principles (both football and non) as well.

As such, a fan who can admit when his team were outplayed and continues to support the team even though they're not winning anything is a hard-core fan for me.

I should know. I support a long list of losers. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I agree thoroughly with this. Supporting a club as they say, is a way of life.

Well the positive thing is there has been a fair number of views, if not posts. It's ok not to post if you have nothing to say, just as long as you learn something from this. Fans in Malaysia are not as pressured to know about their clubs mainly because a huge majority don't. If you visit foreign forums though, it helps to know a little at least. If you actually visit Liverpool, Manchester or whatever, trust me, it's crucial to know something especially when you strike up a conversation with one of the locals. They will be apprehensive of course thinking you are one of those tourist type fans, but they will warm up to you when you show them you can hold your own.
*
No offence but if someone thinks that they have no need to know about their clubs because the majority don't, then they have no backbone IMO. I used the GF analogy because it reflects it perfectly. When you love your club, you want to know everything about it. If you like a girl and you want her to take you seriously, you'll go out of your way to know when's her birthday, what she likes et cetera. So, how do you expect fellow fans to take you seriously if you actually know jack about the club you supposedly care for and love?? As a Man United fan, I feel you're at least obligated to know about Newton Heath, Sir Matt Busby, The Busby Babes, Duncan Edwards, The Munich Disaster, Georgie Best, Bobby Charlton, Eric Cantona and the current and ongoing legend that is Sir Alex Ferguson. Just like Pool fans would want your fans to know at least about Shankly, Paisley, Hillsborough and Heysel.

Important event in your club. Learn it up. As verx(or was it Duke??) said again, Wikipedia has everything you need.

Do I label my housemate as a Man Utd fan? You be the judge, hesitating to switch clubs, from Man Utd to Chelsea...Shucks, sad isn't it?

I would say he's no Man United fan. A real/proper/hardcore/insert others here/ wouldn't even have the slightest inkling to abandon your club. Be it they're at the top or in the shits. That friend oof yours, should be shot. Would be shot I think if he's actually lived in the UK if he has that sort of principle. If you don't mind me asking, how old is your friend??? This switching club/glory hunting principle is most commonly found among kids anyways. If he's an adult, then as you said, sad, sad case...

That is the mentality of some people sadly. I was at the gym and this dude caught sight of my LFC tattoo. He obviously knows enough about football to recognise it. He then asked me, "What if you were to change clubs?". Basically says a lot about the quality of fan he is. Anyway I asked him, "Why would I ever want to change clubs?". He just shrugged his shoulders and that was that.

early 20s, I'm younger though. blink.gif

I'm just wondering, just in case if one day, any of the top four team relegates. How many would still bother about their clubs?

Like I said; I support a long list of losers. They are; Wolves, Fulham, Middlesbrough.

If I'm not mistaken, I've met a hard core fan of Bournemouth. We have absolutely nothing to talk about, when it comes to football. biggrin.gif He does talk about memories about Frank Lampard Sr and Harry Redknapp though. biggrin.gif

Previously during United's succesful era in early 90s, most rival fans blame United fans as full of glory hunters. From their rants in United's magazine and football magazines such as Shoot and Match, they say that most United fans are glory hunters because of the sudden increase of supporters. They say these type of fans will behave like rats deserting a sinking ship later...

Typical label... I just will like to see how many fans behave like this now since United are on top form again...

It's ok to be ignorant and to learn from another, even if it's a rival fan. What bites me is when ignorant people pick an argument and get their facts wrong. It's ok not to know too much, just be humble.
*
yes. agree with you. we need to get the facts right when talking about our rival.

i really hate bunch of people who because they dislike one club, they try to shoot everything without the facts and pretend they are right shakehead.gif

IMO, to be a true supporter is to stand beside the team even if they lose, or get relegated. i have my friend who truly supporting leeds even though they playing in League One. notworthy.gif

Based on all the replies here (and throughout the forums), one can tell if someone is a glory-hunter who knows nuts about football (let alone the club the person is suppporting) or a true fan.

Its great to read all the replies here about how and why you guys support your football club, down to knowing its history, the players, the songs and etc.

Most of the time in the forum, you'll across members posting things like "Yeeaa, club XYZ win again! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif", "Club ABC will win 9-0" "OMMGGXASDD !!!! What is coach 123 doing? We Lost !!!!"

There's notthing wrong with posting the above replies. IMHO, a glory-hunter will only post this kinda stuff. Why ? It doesn't related to the club at all.

Why did the team took all 3 points ? It because the right tactics was deployed ? Right team selection ?

Why did the team lost ? Players getting tired ? Key players missing ?

Why will the team win 9-0 ? The other team got injury problems or missing key players ? Player ABC is super on form now ?

Only a true fan can answer those questions above because the person knows inside and outside of the club.

Like what air_mood posted, supporting a football club is like dating a girl. Why is she angry ? Why is she being quiet ? A true BF will take all this question into account if those things did happen to the girl .... instead of going around bragging "I have a hot chick man !!!"

That's just my 2 cents smile.gif

And one really gets ripper and myself interested is ..... where's the other so-called "true" fans of the various clubs gone to ? Ignoring this thread ? hmm.gif

Well procrastinate no longer then. If we win our 6th this season, you have to promise to get one! biggrin.gif
*
No i dont think so man, when we win our third in a row maybe but not when you win your 6th...btw i changed my avatar maybe that's why u didn't 'recognise' me...

and sure had a lot of replies for this thread my friend, very popular indeed. I must speak up for those who support more than 1 team, as I am one of them who supports 2 teams from 2 different leagues, it's something that stuck with me since my school days, can't explain why and won't even attempt to do so here. but i also cannot tahan those who support more than one team in the same league...blasphemy!

as for some of the other posts here about to each his own, i totally agree with that. some collect jerseys, official merchandise, watch every game, etc. fair enough. but all i'm saying is get a little backup info/history first, i fully subscribe to fact if you know something better, the better you love it.

anyway my 2 cents lah

I guess to put it in another way,one must support a club for a erm,"non superficial" reason? As in you don't just support the best team,or support a particular team with zero reason and simply go zomgbbq when they win and what nots.

There must be at least some form of foundation for ur like of the team.Either style of play, history,or whatever attracts u to the particular club.

Why and oh God why must you tempt me like this?? See, I can't resist having a go at them now.

Does anyone not see the irony of a Chelski fan on this thread agreeing with the fact that knowing history is 1 of the non important things???hahaha

I am a history teacher. But regarding this history thingy about the clubs, noone can deny the historical events of the EPL giants like MU, LFC, or Arsenal. But, what these clubs can't match The Blues nowadays is how we create a new histories for the past 5 or 6 years.

lol i cant help but to think this things started off bcoz of me. biggrin.gif

actually my initial point previously was that knowing the history of the team is not necessary a 'requirement' or reason for u to fall in love wif something. juz like a GF, u most porbably didn't fall in love wif her juz bcoz u know her history. its some 'feeling' that most probably way beyond words can describe. so the point here is : u love something not bcoz of its history; n u know the history of it bcoz u love it. fair enough ?

anyway lets juz say that everyone hav their ways, n i respect all of them. ask a Romanista Ultra, n he'll tell u that u must paint ur house/room into orange/maroon, stick up pictures of Totti/Giannini/Pruzzo all over it, n might as well as beat the crap out of any Lazio fans if u happan to see 1. biggrin.gif
