QUOTE(clayclws @ Jan 21 2008, 11:52 PM)
Hardcore or Real? Your title said Real...

I wear MU's jersey when we draw or lose, but I don't flaunt it when we win.
*
he changed from hardcore to real since most of us here are real but not hardcore.

QUOTE(-Y- @ Jan 22 2008, 01:06 AM)
hi guys. my broadband got prob. now im online (again). with pure heart (with milan n roma in it). n hope nobody still argue bout it. im loyal with 2 teams. still wonder why some ppl really hate it... for some of those.. no, im not confuse. i alrady confes i love milan n roma. + arsenal to. so? what the heck.. really hot topic. hot temper ppl also.

nice topic.

lets bring it on.
*
wow... from 2 to 3! i'm guessing your 2009 resolution is to find a 4th club to love? i hear chelsea are interested... whistling.gif

QUOTE(madmoz @ Jan 22 2008, 01:07 AM)
Nope. I'd probably think that a nation is too wide or general a culture/thing for me to connect to. I've been fortunate enough to live in those parts and have experienced what it is like to support the local club, what the club means to the people around it as well as their hopes and dreams... (well, close enough - i was in manc but i support liverpool rclxub.gif ) In a way I am 'lalang' too as I do follow the fortunes of manchester city sweat.gif
I suppose a good definition of a 'real' supporter is one who doesn't support a club because of its players but one who supports the club for what it represents.
Then again, i might be some pseudo white moron after all smile.gif

As for the national team, them brits are a funny lot. Always building up their heroes - only to set them up for the great big fall. The Aussies on the other hand seem to idolize their sports personalities. Point in case - overweight wife beating beer guzzling multiple mistress football genius Gascoigne is alway remembered as an idiot in England whereas overweight wife beating beer guzzling multiple mistress cricket genius Warne is a national Oz hero doh.gif
*
nah... i believe you hit it right on the spot.

well, the british press is well known for the overhype and sensationalizing of their athletes. but, the national pride is something out of this world. I remember the Rugby World Cup. Brits taking to standing outside pubs just to watch the game!!!!

QUOTE(clayclws @ Jan 22 2008, 01:17 AM)
I know for sure my dad had a large influence on what I like. Music, movies, etc. Man Utd was his love, and it flowed in my veins as well as my elder bro's. But his love for England didn't stick with any of us.  laugh.gif  So, real fans, how did you people get to love your clubs so much anyway? Who started it all? I know Cantona did for many MU fans (his karate kick was the best laugh I had at that time).

Why is it so much harder to love a national team? Cause there's not much influence?
*
well... not sure how I started with MU. just kinda happened. along the way, MU started to influence me back so now I support MU because of their youth policy and commitment to attacking football.

maybe coz national teams hardly play and their style of play varies. also, managers are stuck with the players available so the team has to accommodate that.

QUOTE(-Y- @ Jan 22 2008, 01:21 AM)
sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  doh.gif

what the heck. childish..
*
actually, i believe he summed it up just right. sometimes, 4 emoticons is enough.

QUOTE(-Y- @ Jan 22 2008, 01:57 AM)
whatever kiddo.

u think u wiser? learn respect others 1st.

sure as hell your brain doesn't work like one
watch ur language boy
*
i've been around and read many of air_mood's comments. I believe he's quite knowledgeable about Man Utd and football trivia. He knows what he's talking about and backs it up with cold, hard facts. You, on the other hand, seem quite content to simply repost the same reasons over and over again like some noobs in the RWI forum.

on the basis of both your writings, I gotta say that air_mood is the wiser one. I respect air_mood's opinions. Which is more than I can say about yours.

QUOTE(shah_ho_nam @ Jan 22 2008, 02:01 AM)
then if you wise enough. tell me how to measure the level of REAL in your definition... who the heck are you telling me that i am not supporting Chelsea. Why i like Milan is not even your matters. They only meet in CL. How do you know i didn't put my faith in Chelsea. For those lalang who ran away when JM got sacked is the THING that u mentioned just now. I might not the same as you who spent all day reading about your real team. I got life to begin with. U might think that it's only your words is better. That guy just log in here. he's telling what is in his heart. why can't u accept it. let it be la.. is it hard for u to accept it.. i got pissed by the way u treat others here. one time i read, it's just some delusions but it counted more than one time.. well Milan and Chelsea is not in the same league... OMG. So wise even Chelsea didn't know how to spell...

Oh ok sorry i tot the real u is about going to Old Trafford..
*
so if Milan was to fight Chelsea in a match, who would you support? Coz if you support Milan, your fellow Chelsea fans will definitely brand you a traitor. Similarly, the Milan fans would treat you as a glory hunter if you support Chelsea. Don't support either, both sides will dismiss you as nothing more that indecisive and disloyal.

Spend all day reading? It doesn't take a whole day to read about a team. I can find out the history and culture of any club within the hour.

you can say what you want but in serious discussions such as this, you have to back it up with logic and facts. Just shooting your mouth off makes you look like a 'tin kosong'. We're not looking to fight; we're just refuting your reasons because to us, it's not valid enough.

FYI, Chelski is Chelsea's nickname.

QUOTE(-Y- @ Jan 22 2008, 02:18 AM)
i think the main reason we still arguing cos dis guy (air_mood) really irritating 1. i donno why dont he respect other opinion. what the heck wit REAL in his definition. im real wit milan. im real wit roma. even u think it is a sin. so what? does it effect ur brilliant life? just carry on with ur belief. dont argue with others. u think u some 1 la. i like to speak meh coz im chinese. so what? i like minglish. does ths effect ur life to? i really dont what kind of ppl r u. respect others la.
*
he maybe irritating but your opinion doesn't warrant much respect IMHO. btw, how can you be real with 2 clubs?

argue? it's a debate. and it doesn't matter if you speak manglish or good english. There are even people who post in malay!! The difference is the contents. Speak in whatever language you want, just back up your comments with facts and/or logic. This is not the place for you to shoot your mouth off.

QUOTE(toshio14 @ Jan 22 2008, 09:42 AM)
A 'real fan', how do we become one?

for me it's easy. as long as you stick by your team in any situation be it win, lose, draw, being(or almost being) took over by a suspicious looking Russian, winning a treble, relegated to the lower league etc you are a 'real fan' in my book

doesn't matter if you just start supporting your club last weekend

doesn't matter how you start to support the team be it because of the team is winning, "siding with the underdog" syndrome etc

doesn't matter if you never been to the club stadium

doesn't matter if you didn't know the chant/song

doesn't matter if you never buy the original club merchandise i.e shirt, bag, sweater etc
re: on the national team issue. i have my support for a national team. i support Malaysia all the way since i start to know football  happy.gif
*
alright then! I, too, will support Malaysia in any tournament (Malaysian mah... how not to?). Only when Malaysia not in, then I support other countries. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(vreis @ Jan 22 2008, 11:53 AM)
Totally agree with verx here. Personally I understand that someone supports loads of teams. Maybe each team in major leagues so that it becomes more interesting for them to follow the league. I believe it starts due to strong language by both Jonno & air_mood.
Both school of thoughts cannot/won't understand or accept the points of others.
*
agreed. Personally, I also like to support Bayer Leverkusen but only in the Bundesliga. When MU plays Bayer, it's always gonna be MU. They are no. 1!!!!!

QUOTE(verx @ Jan 22 2008, 12:23 PM)
Fair enough. I for one wouldn't put up with a person who supports both Barca and Madrid. But i still think it's pointless arguing with this kind of people. You ain't gonna change them.
I think that's a very stereotypical statement. You could argue that since majority of the population are from blue-collared backgrounds, that they would make up the majority of football fans.
*
well, support and loyalty comes from the heart IMO. correct me if i'm wrong, but most Ph.D's probably think more with their head; they may not think with their heart.

QUOTE(Haunkiem @ Jan 22 2008, 09:00 PM)
HAHAHAHHAHA .

Are you serious ?

then you better get a large bucket of blue paint and throw it in any cafe/bistro that shows EPL games coz most of fans nowadays are yuppie pondans.

Even in UK the old working class fans are being marginalised , they are trying to steal the game away from them to the new age pondans.

Are you sure you are not a yuppe fan ?

If you are so serious why dont you move to Liverpool and see what a shit place it is , same withmost of the UK .
*
what makes you think UK is such a bad place? I was there for 2 years and while KL is better in some respects, UK has it's own qualities.

There's an old fool contaminating this thread with loads of his usual antics. Check out his post in other threads. He has been blasted by almost everyone, including the Staff and Moderators. He thinks that he is just simply better than others and is allowed to disrespect others. And when others confront him with his contemptuous rudeness, he goes on being childish. He is definitely not a football fan, and I think you all know who I meant. Ignore that fool.

I wouldn't say it is a pity if we could ban that one particular person from the entire Lowyat.net. He made a fool of himself in every thread, throwing profanities everywhere to everyone. Seems like he had a troubled childhood or something.

oh, and i want to add that i find really hard to accept 'fans' as real when they didn't make an effort to watch their team match when available at telly or they going to sleep in the middle of watching their team match due to their team losing (u know who u r)

Im a member since 2003. Cos I don't wanna jeopardize my real id by sent this post. This is what i felt bout football. Football is universal. All I can say is ppl have their own opinion. Why they love football. How they grow with influence of football. so choices can effected from time to time.

When im was young, im one of the catalans. Coz of my late father. we love football. we even been there when real v barca once. I also have my own Johan Cruijff jersey. But time change. When im older, Ive change team. I choose the red devil. I watch my first match when man utd visit japan for friendly match (when I was studyng there) Ive been to old trafford couple of time. Including Milan v man u last year. and of coz I even I buy original utd merch. Am I saying im 'real' fan? No. I think not.. im rather not claiming im real fan.

The reason im here. Im quite annoyed wit some of u people claim urselves as 'real' fan. Know a little bit of history, buy fake merch. & so on. Then, claim that he/she is a real fan. I don't think so. Youngsters now days.. they are really disgrace. It make me laugh when some of this forummer (claimed to be real man utd fan) out of nothing flame couple of the forummer. including other forummer also. It is really hilarious to see this guy got angry. you sure got some brain but I cannot resist to say you also childish + im might say u r a poser. At the same time claiming he is the 'real' fan. I think what we should do is respect other fans & their teams as we respect ours. Im a lecturer in private college. Which mean im a teacher. But I NEVER said - IDIOT to any of my students. It is really harsh word. he think he s really something. Really smart guy I think. but actually it reflected ur childhood. how u were raised. maybe it is custom in your family to say some one idiot.

Im married n my 2nd child will come next couple of months. I actually don't want to involve with this tread actually. Really childish. But for -y- & ho nam. I really glad u stand up for ur right & coz u r honest. i know some of the forummer also have a couple of team to cheer. but afraid to say coz of ths ppl. But what I can say to both of u, you just make yourselves stupid by keep replying ths 'real' fan post. Just ignore them. According to them, we made r sinner coz we have couple of team. So as for me, im a man utd, selangor (hometown), & gamba osaka (used to stay there for 5 years). Which makes me 3 clubs. so?

all i can say is.. Just enjoy football. and pls dont disgrace man u.

pls dont condemn my english. as we never use english in japan. cheers.. thumbup.gif

I thought the issue is dead?

To be honest, as mentioned by a few people, one is entitled to their own opinion. The fact is that we, myself and air_mood do not understand how can someone can support two teams, perhaps I am not that enlighten or I am just a narrow minded fool compare to them who can see the brighter side of things.

However, I think it started when air_mood mentioned how he can't fathom why one can do that, albeit in a tone that not everyone understands, I see it as sarcasm, others might take it in the literal meaning, therefore took offense to it. And then it just blew up when Y & Sha just went on this abusive streak offending everyone, bringing out matters that is not being discussed here, which I think is uncalled for.

Anyway, all said and done, what I'd like to say is that please do keep the arguement relevant and not birng out issues such as education, family, upbringing as well as other things, these are things that would ruin a good discussion / arguement. As mentioned to both Y and Sha, it's their inability to justify or present a good arguement that makes us think they are posers, rather than the fact that they supports two teams.

I think we need to take the verx route on this Jonno. Ignore them and let them have their fun. If people who are what 27, 28 insists on doing so, what hope is there for the ones who are still in school ehh?? Just don't expect to be respected or celebrated for it. And as I pointed out, they are lucky that they are in this forum. Go into a proper club forum, they won't last.

Don't think anything can be achieved, except people throwing out cynical comments I suppose. Saying they don't like so and so, while not daring to name who the person is. I got myself quite a hate list on this thread ehh??? Hahaha. Might have bothered me had this been real life, but seeing that this is an internet forum, it makes me laugh really.

If you think I'm aiming at you, then you guessed wrongly. I did say he is not a football fan. He came in to squirt his profanity, as he always does in other threads, and leave after fulfilling his desire.

Nope. Didn't mean you either. I'm talkign about my many fans who state things like "there's this one Man United fan"...or "I hate this guy" or " so called die hard Man United supporter". Damn, there's a lot of terms. Like I said, my many fans. you'll find at least 5 or so of those descriptons in the past 2 or 3 pages.
