Wow...I can't believe that some people could make such a fool of him/herself in all the thread that he/she is in. This thread is for football fans. If you are not, just go away. Stop being a pest in everywhere you go. You know who you are.

In light of the fact that some fans look at others as being of the glory-hunting variety and so on, I thought it would be appropriate to get some views on what people perceive as being a hard-core fan. It's not for us to judge or discriminate as everyone has the right to support their club in any manner they see fit. While I admit this, I still find it annoying when fair-weather fans try to put up an argument with weak points.

Let me ask you then, what is your definition of a hard-core fan?
*
Hardcore or Real? Your title said Real...

I wear MU's jersey when we draw or lose, but I don't flaunt it when we win.

Club fans...how about nations? How many of you admire a certain country (most likely England), but is a loving fan of another country's football team? During the last few World Cup, me and my bro, both MU fans, won't miss out on watching England play (only cause MU players are in it) but I supported Brazil and he, Germany.

i personally find it harder to 'connect' with national teams as compared to clubs.
*
Why is that? Cause you love certain players from your team to death? Let me guess, you should be supporting Spain (Rafa, Torres, et al), England (Gerrard & Co), etc. laugh.gif

Added on January 22, 2008, 1:01 amDoes Arsenal fans love watching England play at all? No offense ya...

National teams? I personally supported Australia as I lived there for 6 years and having wore the green and gold in another sport representing them in the World University Games and another tournament, I feel more connected to them than any other National team...
*
Hmm...personal experience with the country eh? Well, I don't play much football or futsal (except on PC or consoles). Basketball, badminton, table tennis and volleyball are my games. So, I won't have much experience. But I started playing console really young and when my dad got me a football game, I played Brazil and never changed from that day onward. I was so hooked on Brazil and looked through their history and such, and even wished to go there someday - I still do (not least for the Samba gals drool.gif ).

I know for sure my dad had a large influence on what I like. Music, movies, etc. Man Utd was his love, and it flowed in my veins as well as my elder bro's. But his love for England didn't stick with any of us. laugh.gif So, real fans, how did you people get to love your clubs so much anyway? Who started it all? I know Cantona did for many MU fans (his karate kick was the best laugh I had at that time).

Why is it so much harder to love a national team? Cause there's not much influence?

I didn't represent them in football or futsal, but another sport, Taekwondo. That;s why I'd support them in rugby, cricket, football or saussage tossing contest. Aussie through and through...  flex.gif
*
Haha~! Most of us represent Malaysia in certain ways (colouring contest not withstanding), but I'm not going to be supporting Malaysia tongue.gif haha~! I'm bad, I know...but heck, I don't see what's there to love about Malaysia's football.

Clayclws... you are missing the point methinks. It is never about the players but more about the 'club'. How do we associate ourself with a foreign nation? I.e. we love liverpool as we would like to believe the supporters stick together and the club represents our collective hearts (beh, damn yanks messing up everything) but what of England? What does England mean to me? Nothing much.
*
Yeah, somehow it's the embodiment of the club that makes one feels that it's worth to be a fan. I do get that. So I guess it's harder for national teams to get anyone to feel that, eh? Hmm....back in my old neighbourhood with a cul-de-sac, we all young ones like to play paper soccer. And guess what, we were so passionate with national teams rather than club. We will quarrel over which country has the best player and history, etc. Or maybe cause there's only two real fans of a club there...me and my bro.

What is there to love about the Malaysian Football Team? Loads... once upon a time.
Did you catch the Thomas Cup last year? It was the first time for as long as i can remember that i saw malays and indians cheering on a chinese, and vice versa. Our national team was like that too when i was a little kid. Malaysians of all races trying their best, running their hearts out for US. We weren't all that great, but we were proud. Nowadays, politics has once again muddled the picture and football (and most malaysian sports) has lost its soul - unity.
*
Yeah, I guess so. The soul is lost within the sportsmanship of the game. Somehow, the local clan football games back in my hometown are so much fun to watch than our Malaysian league...

You aren't getting it my friend. We don't support the club because of it's players or it's managers. We support the club because of the club. We love it's history, traditions and culture.
*
Err...yeah. I know that. See my reply in the previous post:

Somehow, Clubs break the traditional national boundaries, races, religions, cutures, etc. Everyone is brought together for the love of the game and the club that they support. That club speaks the heart and soul of that particular fan, and that's why some people put club before country, wife, children, etc. Those are real hardcore fan. I'm not a hardcore fan, just a fan of MU and Brazil that'll stick by them even if MU gets relegated to 2nd Division or Brazil didn't qualify for World CUp for ten times in a row.

There's an old fool contaminating this thread with loads of his usual antics. Check out his post in other threads. He has been blasted by almost everyone, including the Staff and Moderators. He thinks that he is just simply better than others and is allowed to disrespect others. And when others confront him with his contemptuous rudeness, he goes on being childish. He is definitely not a football fan, and I think you all know who I meant. Ignore that fool.

Which is a pity cause if you remove all the personal attacks and profanities, there is a decent discussion going on in here.

I wouldn't say it is a pity if we could ban that one particular person from the entire Lowyat.net. He made a fool of himself in every thread, throwing profanities everywhere to everyone. Seems like he had a troubled childhood or something.

Good that you find his posts humourous. Personally, I would like to use a jackhammer and *too violent to be posted on the forum*. I have no idea such human exist in this world, but I guess, I haven't seen much of the world.

I think we need to take the verx route on this Jonno. Ignore them and let them have their fun. If people who are what 27, 28 insists on doing so, what hope is there for the ones who are still in school ehh?? Just don't expect to be respected or celebrated for it. And as I pointed out, they are lucky that they are in this forum. Go into a proper club forum, they won't last.

Don't think anything can be achieved, except people throwing out cynical comments I suppose. Saying they don't like so and so, while not daring to name who the person is. I got myself quite a hate list on this thread ehh??? Hahaha. Might have bothered me had this been real life, but seeing that this is an internet forum, it makes me laugh really.
*
If you think I'm aiming at you, then you guessed wrongly. I did say he is not a football fan. He came in to squirt his profanity, as he always does in other threads, and leave after fulfilling his desire.

The enthusiasm haven't wear off...yet. I don't think it would though. It's just that you are very much busy with other stuffs in life, which is good. Football, if you play it, is a sport. If you watch it, it's an entertainment. Unless you are a football player, whereby football is your life, then I guess it's alright that you miss those matches since you have more important things to do...and sleeping is important as well tongue.gif

Hmm...let's steer away from that. Let's discuss: Do real fans diss their own manager/players? I know I do that to Saha (all the time) and Brown (sometimes)...does that make me less of a fan?
