IMO Vandoorne are actually catching up to alonso, the self proclaimed 9.5/10 driver...haha
I think ferrari main concern now is to keep Vettel happy. Therefore, Vettel have a say in who will be his teammates...and i don't think he wants Ric.
*
Vandoorne so far has been a disappointment but not too surprising as he goes up against Alonso. He can claim all he wants that he's close to Alonso but the fact is Alonso has been crushing him consistently.

Yup Seb might be apprehensive about Ric as Ric had beaten him before in RB which up to this day still the only team mate who has done so. However if Ferrari still looses out the constructor while Seb manages to win the title, then surely they would have a look at the weak links and that would expose Kimi. For the team, constructor title is equally important if not more. In this last race Kimi finished over 1 pit stop away from Seb which is a very long way back, so that is a glaring lack of pace from what many still regard as the best car on the grid or at least equal to Mercs.

I think the engine and PU limit is stupid, it arguably keep the cost down (might be the opposite though since making thing that last is more expensive) but make driver do 'just enough' not pushing and attacking at the latter stage to conserve the engine.
*
It's been ironic that F1 wants to cut costs, yet it uses such complicated and expensive engine formula and keeps changing the rule which requires more development costs.

And as everyone might have noticed, for don't know how many races already, Kimi has never been able to gain a position on the start and again lost a place rather easily, this time to Ric. It seems he is playing it too safe these days. In the olden days, he was clean and able to balance that with good aggression for brave overtaking or wheel-to-wheel combat. Nowadays, he is just safe but not much aggression anymore.

Imo.

Its ok to be safe, but making mistakes when it matters (qualifying) is not.

yeah, kimi seem to be making mistakes at the time it matters most

its tough for ferrari and vettel to win the championship if kimi can't challenge mercedes taking points off them

Yes especially since Bottas is performing better too. It's really time for Kimi to retire already. His best chance to win was Monaco last year and of all places where pole position means the most, he still failed! Put Ric on the red car and we should have more interesting battles (assuming RB is still slightly behind like now). I wish Alonso can return to Ferrari or at least join RB, sigh...so wasted talent. McLaren is really rubbish now and keep going down to join Williams.

Yeah, it was just a race of 2 cars, just like this year WEC is also a championship of 2 cars! laugh.gif
I suppose Alonso will be going to Indy next year to try complete his triple crown ambition after he won this Le Mans.

Kudos to FA14, but trying to win Indy 500 is way more complex than 24 hr Le Mans i guess...

2 cars of a same team, is that even a race or a exhibition? haha

i dont follow indy but at least this a RACE with competition..winning indy would be a big thing for alonso before he bow out of racing

kimi at his best in mid 2000 but now i see he is wasting a valuable seat in ferrari, worst still ferrari now is capable of winning races than finish outside podium in a distant

fans love him he is cool but kimi have passed his best, still fast but not fast enough compare to vettel and hamilton plus all the *facepalm* mistakes he always do doh.gif

Seems like McLaren is the most losers... paid so much for Alonso, ended up with nothing, just sour relations with Honda. Seems like wherever Alonso went, he left 'problem' there.

McLaren is following Williams to become the fallen giants, just like Lotus and to some extent Ferrari in the 80s (even though Ferrari even at their worst never dropped as low as the other 3, and was able to come back strong).

For his ability, I think Alonso should worth the money coz he is still consistently fast with excellent race craft to climb up the field, dragging a dog of a car higher up where it should not belong. If not for Alonso's performance, McLaren will have even worse results I think, just like Williams. It's just maybe he's not really a good team player and he demands a lot but I believe all drivers at his caliber also have similar arrogance and expectations from the others to live up to their demands, just that some maybe more diplomatic than others. McLaren only has themselves to blame for the poor performance in the last few years.

Rumor is Ric is already approached by McLaren for a whopping USD20mill! This is a stronger indication that Alonso will be leaving hence providing McLaren the huge budget to offer other drivers.

Maybe related to that, another rumor is Ferrari is looking more keen to replace Kimi with Leclerc as they don't want to spend on another highly paid driver aside from Seb. Since Ric seems to have his price already pretty high, that seems to take him out of consideration from Ferrari.
