It is important to detect and deter Maritime Security threats as early and as far away from Singapore as possible.
As such, personnel from the Republic of Singapore Navy, the Singapore Police Force, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore - MPA, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, and Singapore Customs play an important role in preventing potential perpetrators from exploiting our maritime domain.

The Malaysian government has announced that defence spending will increase by 5.3% under the 2018 budget. Total spending on the Ministry of Defence (MoD) will rise from MYR15.1 billion (USD3.6 billion) to MYR15.9 billion.
Spending will decline marginally against GDP, remaining at a level of around 1.1, and as a share of overall government spending from 5.8% to 5.6%. Despite that, the MoD’s budget allocation is still around 7% lower than in 2015 following a large cut to military spending in 2016.
The additional funding will be allocated within the recurrent budget which incorporates the operating costs of the MoD and the armed forces, with related spending rising by 7.6% from MYR11.7 billion to MYR12.6 billion.

RM50 Million For SF
Marhalim Abas October 27, 2017
PENANG: As stated in the previous post, the Defense Ministry was hoping that the Special Forces will get an extra allocation from the 2018 budget.
It appears that they had. Prime Minister DS Najib Razak when announcing the 2018 budget announced RM50 million for the Special Forces.
As for the Armed Forces budget, the Operating Expenditure for 2018 is RM12.566 billion while the Development Expenditure is RM3.277 billion.
However there was no breakdown of the OE and DE allocations so the RM50 million meant for the Special Forces could come from either or even both. It is likely most of the DE funds are those for things already delivered or in the pipeline like the A400M, LCS and the AV8.

Several hours after the budget was released, RMAF official Twitter account announced that the 2018 allocation included funding for 4 MPA. This was not mentioned in the budget documents so this is definitely something worth following up.
Allocation for armed forces beyond expectations and demonstrates government's appreciation for their sacrifices
By HANI SHAMIRA SHAHRUDIN - October 27, 2017 @ 8:48pm
KUALA LUMPUR: The RM14 billion allocated for the armed forces in the 2018 Budget showed that the government appreciates their sacrifices for the country.
Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor said the Budget focused on his men and their welfare.
“As the chief, I am pleased with the Budget, very pleased,” he said.
When asked if the allocation was what he expected, Affandi said it was beyond his expectations.
“It clearly indicates how the government feels about the whole system,” he said.
Earlier when tabling the 2018 Budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said RM14 billion would be allocated for the armed forces. RM3 billion is allocated for the purchase and organising of defence assets.
Another RM50 million was allocated to improve asset capabilities for the force’s Gerak Khas units to curb anti-terrorism activities.
