Which one would you choose?

65" Samsung RU8000 or 55" Samsung Q80T?

Both have same price now.

Should i go for Q80T and sacrifice on the size?

Usage is for gaming (current PS4 and future PS5) and movies.

Comparison are as link below

For this two, I will definitely go for Q80T.

RU8000 no local dimming and not good for HDR as weak HDR Peak Brightness.
High HDR Peak Brightness is freaking important in HDR and it make huge differences as I personally experiences it.

Q80T is in high quality TV range where RU8000 is just a normal TV.

Currently I am using 55" LG C9.

Actually for that price, I suggest you top up a bit and go for OLED TV.

Hi, anyone has LG 65UM7290? Saw the dimension on the spec but the size is different/smaller from other 65" model and from calculation it seems the screen size is 60".

Wondering whether is it typo from LG or the size is indeed smaller from other 65" hmm.gif

is it really worth it to get C9 instead of B9? the extra RM1500 is justifiable for C9?

i just read this list of 4k tv 2020 dated 29th may 2020:

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-r...4k-ultra-hd-uhd

C9 is not even mentioned there. only LG B9 and SM9000.

so yeah, im kinda deciding between B9 (OLED), SM9000 (bigger size)... but if anyone here can help me justify adding another thousand for C9 then maybe i'll change my mind..

im not buying tv every day so might as well buy the best bang for my buck.

Actually Samsung even the highest-end Q series also no way can win OLED. The pure black & perfect 10/10 Local Dimming already 100% OLED win.
Samsung only Q90T series win on SDR & HDR Peak Brightness. Others than that, none is better than OLED for picture quality.

That probably the main reason Samsung is plan switch to OLED as well in coming year.

After I own OLED TV, I never recommended people getting value 4K HDR TV anymore as I seen the huge differences on HDR.
Even SDR also look far better in OLED, thanks to it pure black feature & it perfect 10/10 Local Dimming.

I can't talk on burn-in as I only purchase it 1 week earlier before MCO, which means only few months usage.

Here telling you the reason - https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-type/oled

C9 is color accuracy out of the box. B9 you need to calibrate it.
The scores given by rtings on accuracy is 7.6 (C9) v/s 4.9 (B9)

Beside this C9 had better HDR than B9. Scores given by rtings is 7.3 (C9) v/s 6.4 (B9).

Comparison - https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/lg-...4&threshold=0.1

Most reviewer is recommended C9 over B9 except rtings, probably due to it is must cheaper and rtings is a calibrator pro.

For the calibration we need professional calibrator ? Can we do manual calibration ourself based on screen instruction or eyeball calibration ?

I believe calibrator device is required. Using eye is not possible / easier to be accurate.

Off course for me, as long it looks nice and meet what I prefer then it is OK but the origin scores of 4.9 seems some how very not accurate, you may need to adjust for a very long time to best suite using naked eye.

Above is just my personal opinion, I am not a pro in this area and I didn't use the most accurate settings in my C9 also as I find it a bit too warm. I prefer my own setting by changing to warm 1 instead of warm 2 from the closed to accurate preset mode - cinema mode.

Origin nearly all TV preset in standard mode is towards cool temperature which is a bit blueish. Those accurate preset need to manually choose later.

But too not accurate do impact the overall viewing experience.

For example, my previous TV normatter how I set, the red in movie angry bird always towards orange color than red. This film in 4K HDR actually quite some user comment it looks orange in blu-ray.com forum. That time I also face this issue but... it is totally in correct red when I view it at my new LG C9.

I personally never seen B9 before and never side by side compare, I had no idea how far differences the accuracy part. But from the number given by rtings, it seems very hugh differences.

You need professional equipment & software. Even the skillful calibrator need to use few hours time to complete the one fully calibration for Sdr, Hdr, dolby vison, 3 different color format. Actually this calibration only for most accuracy picture mode. If you use standard mode to enjoy your content & don't care how content looks and feels of the creators. you don't need calibration. But once you get used to accuracy picture mode, you will enjoy to use calibrated picture mode for movie, gaming , youtube , photo. you will find out other modes are unnatural or missing shadow detail. Even you buy C9, I also recommend you to do calibration if you care creators intended content.

Thanks !

I kind of agreed with u that may be subjective in terms of accuracy. So may just adjust to what suits my naked eye.

Also doubt a bit that B9 is really that inaccurate that whoever buys it, need to spend money to get it calibrated especially in western countries (expensive !).

55" C9 is a bit small for me, but the 65" C9 is too expensive. So 65" B9 RM8888 is a compromise for me.

I think I will just do manual adjustment, so long as the picture pleases my eye.

I think Panasonic generally more accurate which may also be related to picture less sharp. Or it's just me.

In showroom, LG picture more grabbing.
