Maggette, Clippers Rally To Beat Lakers, Despite Kobe's 50 Points
Corey Maggette scored a career-high 39 points, Elton Brand added 32, and the Clippers rallied to beat the Lakers 118-110 Thursday night despite Kobe Bryant's 50 points. Bryant's nine 50-point games this season are the most in the NBA since Wilt Chamberlain scored at least 50 nine times in the 1964-65 season. Chamberlain averaged a record 50.4 points three years earlier Very bad if they 1 2 clinch a playoff spot.. LeBron Scores 35 Points In 36 Minutes For 12 minutes, the Cavaliers drove, dunked and did anything they desired. And all New Jersey could do was watch. LeBron James looked primed for the postseason, scoring 35 points in 36 minutes, and the Cavaliers secured home-court advantage for the first round of the NBA playoffs with a 94-76 win Thursday night over the Nets, who blew a chance to inch closer to a berth. Nuggets To Sign Wafer Von Wafer's new place of employment will be 15 miles down the road. The Nuggets are expected to announce today the signing of the Colorado 14ers swingman for the rest of the season, and he will be a candidate to play tonight against the Hornets. They also may sign either point guard Anthony Carter or point Mateen Cleeves, with Carter sounding much more optimistic Thursday night about being selected. The Nuggets flew Wafer, Carter and Cleeves to Oklahoma City on Thursday, and they worked out at the Ford Center. "He's so pumped, you'd have thought he signed a $90 million contract,'' said Wafer's agent, Raymond Brothers, who said his client signed Thursday. THey got A.I & Melo de y they 1 another guard?? |

If not.... I think they can't reach the playoff. Added on April 13, 2007, 6:45 pmThe Rebirth of the Raptors The Toronto Raptors are headed to the playoffs for the first time in five years. Who knew? The 2006-07 Atlantic Division champions are, for the first time, the Toronto Raptors. Who knew? The Toronto Raptors have as good of a chance as any team in the Eastern Conference to advance to The Finals this year. Who knew? President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo did. And after what they have done this season, the rest of the league now knows, too. Colangelo had a plan, and it has worked to perfection. He knew exactly what needed to be changed with the Raptors and was the one person who saw something that no one else could. He didn't hesitate to take on the challenge. After 15 successful years with the Suns, Colangelo was hired by the Raptors in February of 2006. Just two seasons after being awarded the 2005 Sporting News Executive of the Year for engineering the third-greatest turnaround in NBA history when the Suns went from 29-53 to 62-20, Colangelo is up to his old tricks again in Toronto. In a shorter amount of time, he has revived the team by keeping just six players from last season, transforming the Raptors to an up-tempo offense with international flair. "Bryan Colangelo is one of the very best in the business," Heat coach Pat Riley said. "He's got great experience. Once they got him away from Phoenix I think that sent a message to the players that they were serious about things." The savvy GM made four trades, acquiring point guard T.J. Ford from Milwaukee, forward Kris Humphries from Utah, center Rasho Nesterovic from San Antonio and, at the trading deadline, guard Juan Dixon from Portland. He also signed two free agents from Europe, forward Jorge Garbajosa and guard Anthony Parker, and made Andrea Bargnani the first European player selected with the first overall pick in the NBA Draft. The transactions may not have sounded like much at the time, but those moves were essential to the Raptors' current success. With just one season under his belt and a great deal of salary cap room, one has to think that their future could to be even brighter. Even though Colangelo is credited as the mastermind that assembled the team, head coach Sam Mitchell has managed to keep the team focused and driven throughout the season. He was named the sixth head coach in Raptors franchise history on June 29, 2004. However, success was not immediate in his first two seasons; Toronto finished with a 33-49 record during the 2004-05 season and went 27-55 in 2005-06. But Mitchell began laying the foundation of a more up-tempo style of play that has meshed seamlessly with the fun-and-run style Colangelo brought with him from Phoenix. Of course it helps when you have an emerging superstar and All-Star forward, Chris Bosh, and a lightening-quick point guard, Ford, keeping the team's engine running at full throttle. In just four seasons, Bosh has gone from the fourth pick in the 2003 NBA Draft to a franchise player to a starter in the NBA All-Star Game. He is posting career highs with 22.8 points and 10.7 rebounds, and his play this season even has fans campaigning for him to win this year's MVP award. "That's one of my goals that I want to attain in my career," Bosh said. "I know I have a long way to go." He and Ford, who is also averaging career bests of 14.1 points and 7.9 assists, have helped rid the franchise of the negative mentality that seemed to linger over Air Canada Centre in recent years. But most importantly, they are sharing the ball and winning games. "Last year we probably would get down by 20 and put our heads down and that's a wrap," Bosh said. "That's the thing I like about this team. We keep our eyes on the prize. He (Ford) came to me and I came to him and we were like, 'Look, as we go, the team goes and we have to take on that type of attitude.'" The duo has taken the team from a 2-8 start to its current 45-33 record. Nevertheless, two men do not make a team. Bargnani has been compared to MVP candidate Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks. He is a good scorer and has accuracy from long range. Before undergoing an appendectomy on March 21, 2007, he was scoring at an 11.5 points per game clip. Garbajosa, a Spanish Cup Finals MVP for two consecutive years, signed as a free agent last July. He also led Unicaja to the Spanish ACB regular-season championship and helped lead Spain to the 2006 FIBA World Championship along with current Raptor teammate, Jose Calderon. Garbajosa was averaging 8.5 ppg and 4.9 rpg when he suffered a displaced left ankle and fractured fibula on March 27, 2007. Despite being injured, Bargnani and Garbajosa, who were selected to the 2007 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge during All-Star weekend, are both in the running for Rookie of the Year award. Parker, a two-time Euroleague MVP, has won five Israeli Premier League championships, five Israeli Cups and three Euroleague titles and has had stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic. As a Raptor, he brings a winning attitude and one of the league's most accurate 3-point shooting touches -- he ranks sixth in the league at 43.6 percent. Nesterovic brings championship experience from his days as a member of the 2005 San Antonio Spurs. Collectively, the aforementioned group, along with Calderon, Dixon, Humphries, Morris Peterson, Joey Graham, Darrick Martin, Pape Sow, Uros Slokar and Luke Jackson, have led the Raptors' revival. even though i admire the raptors to be able to clinch a playoff spot but then i dont really see them being champions for the eastern playoffs... indeed, the entry of Ford to the team has brough huge contribution in term of speed, if only bragnani and garbajosa werent injured, then they will most likely to be one of the good teams in the east, still, lets hope that they wont waste a great chance like this to be in the playoffs!
they are even facing the wizards on the 1st round so it would be the best chance the raptors ever have to being champion. |

Crush them?..no no, you cannot say that, Wizards are still a team with a lil playoff experience, it's different compared to season games...it can be quite tough on players mentally, and when it does, physically you'll break down as well....there's still Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison...

PLAYER OF 50 POINTS
A player scoring 50 points almost seems like a regular occurrence now. Afterall, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant has reached the half-century mark nine times this season after finishing with 50 on 17-of-33 shooting from the field in a 118-110 loss to the Clippers on Thursday. Bryant ties Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain, who also scored at least 50 nine times in the 1964-65 season, for the most such games in a single season. Bryant is one of six players this season to rack up at least 50 points, a feat also accomplished by Jamal Crawford, Gilbert Arenas, Michael Redd, Ray Allen and Richard Hamilton. Overall, there have been 14 performances of at least 50 points this season, two more than the entire 2005-06 campaign. There were only eight 50-point efforts in 2004-05 and five in 2003-04. PLAYER POINTS DATE/OPPONENT Kobe Bryant 65 3/16/2007 LAL vs. POR (OT) Gilbert Arenas 60 12/17/2006 WAS at LAL (OT) Kobe Bryant 58 12/29/2006 LAL at CHA (3 OT) Michael Redd 57 11/11/2006 MIL vs. UTA Gilbert Arenas 54 12/22/2006 WAS at PHO (OT) Ray Allen 54 01/12/2007 SEA vs. UTA (OT) Kobe Bryant 53 12/15/2006 LAL vs. HOU (2 OT) Michael Redd 52 3/4/2007 MIL vs. CHI (OT) Jamal Crawford 52 01/26/2007 NYK vs. MIA Kobe Bryant 52 11/30/2006 LAL vs. UTA Richard Hamilton 51 12/27/2006 DET at NY (3 OT) Gilbert Arenas 51 01/15/2007 WAS vs. UTA Kobe Bryant 50 03/18/2007 LAL vs. MIN Kobe Bryant 50 04/12/2007 LAL vs. LAC Wah Kobe is the one who score a lot of 50 points or more than 50 points. he has already created history...his name is already in the NBA history books for scoring 4, 50+ points in a game...but so far, in career he onli has 20, Wilt Chamberlain has 113, his Airness has 30 over if not mistaken....i'm sure he still have more fuel in him to get him going, but surely not passing Wilt..i guess....
