I've been using 3 AMD chips until now. The reason is, those who seek performance, will never touch AMD for now at least. Its at the end of its product life cycle.

due to the K8 design, the frequency tops at 3GHz.. thus that's the max speed X2 6000+ and the FX74

Intel Core2 has more room to go beyond 3GHz, probably around 3.6GHz.. factor in the Core2 has around 10% advantage IPC over K8 clock for clock, so the performance crown belongs to Core2, no question asked.

so i guess it depends on how much RM you are willing to spend to get a cpu..

of coz the choice for oriented budget is AMD since with RM300 can already get a good motherboard..
and besides that, maybe temperature too..my x2 seems cooler than c2d..

Why do you need a better PSU? I thought 65nm microprocessors consume less power...? hmm.gif

enthusiast only cater about 25% or less from the overall market.

and besides, the real life performance is not much difference between Core and K8 nowadays... so cost/performance ratio is more important for the mainstream and business segment icon_idea.gif

Come 22nd April, you can get the lowest priced (but able to overclocked to 3.2 GHz) Intel C2D, E4300, at around RM400. For addtional RM120, it is a far better buy than AMD Dual Core. (Okay, I have not take into account motherboard price here).

E4300 x9 multiplier, to get 3.2GHz, you will need 350MHz FSB, meaning a really good 965 motherboard.

just for reference, reported brisbane x2 3600+ OC. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/425572/+80
