AMD just warned their Q1 will come below market expectation, with revenue at USD1.23B and going to resturcture.
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070409/advanced_mi...tlook.html?.v=1 Looks like price war benefits end users but not shareholders. I mean USD73 for a dual core is really a bargain.. I hope AMD will do better financially.. only competition brings better products at more acceptable price! |

due to the K8 design, the frequency tops at 3GHz.. thus that's the max speed X2 6000+ and the FX74
Intel Core2 has more room to go beyond 3GHz, probably around 3.6GHz.. factor in the Core2 has around 10% advantage IPC over K8 clock for clock, so the performance crown belongs to Core2, no question asked. so i guess it depends on how much RM you are willing to spend to get a cpu.. |

E4300 x9 multiplier, to get 3.2GHz, you will need 350MHz FSB, meaning a really good 965 motherboard.
just for reference, reported brisbane x2 3600+ OC. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/425572/+80 |

E4300 spec'ed 1.8GHz, FSB 200MHz, so it's 9x multiplier.. something wrong?

The pricing of X2 cpu at LYP is quite competitive, but seems like majority still 90nm parts. (RM265 3600+ listed as 2GHz, meaning 90nm parts) Not sure if easy to find retail 65nm parts.
There is a bulk for X2 3600+ brisbane at the bulk section. |

umm.. broken keyboard with CAPS stuck on?
AMD really good bang for money, 3600+ and 3800+ below USD100. so i think X2 wins in the "best value for money" category. AMD has no comparative cpu to Intel's E6700 and above. so if money no problem, Intel has the performance crown, until we see Agena and Kuma. |

I think options for S939 are pretty limited. S939 cpus are rare and more expensive compared to AM2.
I guess for S939, it would be better to get a new platform. If you are sticking with HT, I think Agena or Kuma on AM2+ would be good (but have to wait, like 6 months??).. |
