QUOTE(weikee @ Oct 22 2017, 08:37 PM) In my opinion, the Fraser's Hill route is the best I have ridden, apart from Kuala Tembeling to Kuala Tahan (which is a bit far for regular rides). I have even ridden this route on Wednesdays which was even more fun because there are less traffic going up or coming down. The whole route (starts from KKB town) is 6 kilometers to the dam (don't be a hero here as the climbs are quite long, treat this as a long warm up) , another 6 km (flattish plus downhill) to Sungai Chilling. From here onwards it is a 20 km gradual climb all the way to Gap Station with a few, just a few steep climbs, usually at the hairpin turns, other than that it's all gradual which can be ridden even with single chain ring bikes. After that, it's up to you to do that last steep 8 km up to the clock tower. This is torturous after the 32 kilometers ride from KKB. I usually don't do the last 8 as it's not fun. The momentous clock tower pictures, I already done twice so there's no point for me to do the last 8 km anymore as I don't enjoy it. After that , it will take you only 40 minutes to reach back KKB, the only climb is the dam. After the dam, you can do 50 kmh or 60 kmh all the way back to town. I have done 13 rides here as I enjoy the cooling ride in the mornings as the sun is shaded by the mountains in the mornings. I encourage you to do this ride. It's not as hard as most says. As long as you are good with your gearings, you will be fine. There are many KKB folks (usually mtbs) who can ride up and back within 3 hours. My first time from KKB to the peak took me 5 hours, rested an hour up there and then that dreading climb from the clock tower to the rear exit. Careful at the descending road as it is a bit 'keras' I would suggest for first timers, park your car in Sungai Chilling. Skip the first 12 km. The route there is all uphill for 20 km till GAP. The good part is , it is also OK for newbies as IF you can't reach GAP , the way back to the car is all downhill, so not much of a problem. Once you can do this, then can try from KKB. When I was in KL, it takes me one hour to actually drive to Hulu Langat or Putrajaya to ride. KKB is about 70 minutes if I start early, so KKB is not really considered far. |

Driving to KKB is scenic too, unlike Hulu Langat and Putrajaya.
Another point of caution, the return trip from tower to GAP isn't all down hill, there are 3 steep climbs where many 1st time riders bonk out there... I never bother to start from KKB, always Chilling. As the return ride is pure pleasure. I don't keep my time when I ride frazer, it's just so much fun. Always get home for shower by ~3pm If one must drive 1hr for a good route, Frazer is my no. 1 choice. This post has been edited by KenC: Oct 22 2017, 11:41 PM |

we started around 8.30 at sg chiling. as promised we stop every 5km and rolling start. no matter how fast u are or how slow ur ride, each 5km must stop. thats the concept of fellowship ride.
the last 8km from gap to clock tower we let it by ur own paced. dont want to push each other. and why we do like that? to help encourage those who are slow. so they could finish together ![]() as u can see from the clock time is 12.30. i arrived at the clock around 11.15am, and we wait until all came up to took our group photo when all arrived. its been a while i didnt met rkhairulrijal since he already transfered back to kl, i think around 1year+. also i first met KenC here at fraser |

Anyone here previously have spine issue that still ok to ride long hours? |

QUOTE(weikee @ Oct 23 2017, 08:34 AM) Scary scary long hours ride. You all really have powerful and stamina. Most doctors recommend cycling for alternative workout when you have knee or spinal problems. Although the journey might be long, you don't need to ride till you reach in one go. You can actually fix a picnic bag onto your bikes, do a potluck party while riding with COMPATIBLE friends. If you are tired, there are many, many spots along the way for all of you to have a picnic before continuing the ride.My longest ride was around kesas for 1 hour only. Always amaze how you all do the long journey and stamina you guys have. I used to have spine problem, and try not to stress myself too much also. Anyone here previously have spine issue that still ok to ride long hours? Again I stress, riding companions are important. Incompatible friends will spoil your ride, ultimately your interest too if it goes really bad. Choose your riding friends wisely. PS/ Just make sure you budget the whole day for this ride and there will be no rush. This post has been edited by etigge: Oct 23 2017, 10:33 AM |

QUOTE(KenC @ Oct 21 2017, 03:11 PM) 80-90rpm is what I can sustain for 1-2hours, anything higher my heart rate will overshoot like mad. 61rpm is really nice for a while, but after 1 hour, I either die of boredom or cramp. One is definitely not a competitive rider, just want to do aerobic exercise for 1~2 hours. And to do that 80-90rpm consistently over any sort of terrain works best. In my case, top speed is never a concern other than bragging on strava, but I always keep an eye on my average speed and minimum lapse time.(I.e. less stops and rest if I could help it Ahhhh… now you know why enough low gear is important to me QUOTE(azamunekurone @ Oct 21 2017, 06:59 PM) how long can u will pedal ur bike speed above 35kmj? wow! really salute lah both of you guys! high cadence pedallers thats why i adopt 53t with 11t on the rear. cadence around 110rpm or higher can get above 35kmh. internal hub maybe in future, but as for time being im comfort with external gear as i had many spareparts lying olat my house. 3-4hours pedalling with 80rpm and above for me no problem. i always target 90rpm most the time..this method will drop when i endurance climb such as fraser. usually when climbing i will maintain 65-80rpm but mostly i will get around 60-70rpm. aiya, wanna go fast get motorcycle.. no need to pedal, just press the throthle most of the time (probably 70-80%), im always on 53-11/12, so 60-70 rpm has been the most comfortable pedalling efficiency for me. anything higher, i'll be kong immediately |

QUOTE(fatani @ Oct 23 2017, 11:13 AM) wow! really salute lah both of you guys! high cadence pedallers  ..i know i cant do that. I do not enjoy high-ish cadance naturally. started out 50-60rpm too. Like I kept saying, I am out for cardiovascular exercise, spinning slow won't give me that, and the rest are just bonuses. In actual fact, my stamina is very poor… most of the time (probably 70-80%), im always on 53-11/12, so 60-70 rpm has been the most comfortable pedalling efficiency for me. anything higher, i'll be kong immediately itsextremely easy to do long rides when you are not out for breaking any land speed records… stop when you feel like it, and guesstimate your makan time and place… hundred of km just wizz by before you know it… The hardest thing with distance cycling is finding the time to do it… This post has been edited by KenC: Oct 23 2017, 01:35 PM |

Just don go all out when downhills. Lookout point to batu 14 got a new resurface Tarmac and very nice. Only to becaful at the last stretch, after the flat as people park their car and walk over to wet market opposite the flat. Bukit Ampang is a death trap. Lookout point to ampang yes have to extra caution. Road condition and traffic is tough |

Shimano 16-24 speed… even 2nd hand also rare.
*PS forget about 24, or 3 chainring, you don't need it and you can't afford it. |
