2006~2008 proton Iswara RM3000~5000. Road tax RM70.
Get an Raleigh ego. New is about 1k, used is about 6~800.
Buy cash la. If you willing to buy sub rm500 bike, I give you loan. 3 month payback. Interest rate 1 root beer float (double) + 1 Coney Dog.

The lad didn't say how much his salary. Surely he can settle the loan with his 1st pay cheque.
He did mention Brompton is ridiculously expensive.
I am sure he knows how to spend his money. Why we all get so stressed up with him taking up loan to buy a bicycle?

Ever consider mini velo? A glamour name for non-folding small wheel bicycle. BMX-ish with multi gears.
I am just 10+kg lesser than you. Hence no Foldies for me. But I don't like big wheels and I am too old to go fast and exploring jungle…
Another factor you should consider is how will you be ridin? with friend or solo? Or looking to join some clubs or riding groups.
Anyway, what ever you buy, stay away from light wheelset with spoke number lesser than 36 if you can.
Smaller wheel always stronger. Just thought you might want to know.
And stay away from everything plastic (carbon). Metals (aluminum, steel) are your friends.
There is a rough guide I take the bicycle weight should be no more than 15% of the riders weight. Which is really easy for us to achieve. 15kg bikes are plentiful. Don't blame the bike weight if it's 12% of your body weight.

MTB not so fun let… get anything 20" for a start. When pusing taman won't look so out of place. And it's easier on the legs too.

This started out as an used bike.
Over the years turn into this… all in less than 1.5k. (including the helmet) spending done over 6~9months.
Now done many thousand km… ROI very good.

*Ps, set up for old obese geezer rider… plenty of wheel spoke, note the not so narrow tires, wide gear range, Wide handlebar(this is genuine BMX handlebar and stem).

For 400-600 bike bramd doesn't really matters… mongoose usually comes with the wrong 3x7 speed gear train… front chain ring too small.

Mongoose use MTB crankset, too small for anything other than climbing vertical walls.

You own a Renualt Kangoo to transport your bike? High maintain cost for Kangoo? I think it can fit a few folding bikes inside ☺ Thinking to get one... haha.

Once you find the right mechanics… sap sap sui. Parts still cheaper than Toyota.
Serious, it's cheaper to buy an used van than the racks.

Rain coat. Waterproof your bags.
My cheap and cheerful waterproofing method is to use plastic bags. I put my phone in a small clear plastic bag, no seal. Wallet in another small clear plastic bags. If you use pannier, put the whole pannier bag inside a garbage bag and cucok the belts through the bag and tie to the racks.
If you use light chain lube or silicon spray lube, bring your lube bottle along. You might need to re-lube.

If the rain is heavy enough to reduce your visibility, just stop and wait it out. No need be hero…

i don't mind getting a lil bit of soak bro ken. my main concern is the brakes performance during the descent on the slippery road. sweat.gif

I have some symmetrical dual pivot caliper brakes. You want to try?

But if you are using carbon rims without disc brake… better don't risk your life.

Thanks bro ken. I have decided to ride my dahon with 406 with bunga tyres biggrin.gif . Actually, my cap ayam bike already using tiagra c brakes, but it also needs to use c brakes adapter to make it usable with the 451 wheelset. The thing with adapter is, it reduces brakes performance a bit. So, considering that, + the slick panaracer tyres + possible slippery descent, i think it's a safer bet for me to ride the dahon since the v brakes it came with stops the bike better. Tyres on dahon are heavier, but slow2 climb ajer lah and enjoy the view biggrin.gif.

Final bike checkup before sunday's ride. Wish me luck. Heehee

I don't like adaptor too. Using adaptor just junk your expensive brakes. My correctly spec cheap brakes will perform way better.
Reduce tire pressure for long downhill is always a good practice.
