I choose Uber previously as they only accepted credit card. If rider cancel, they will be billed for the cancellation fee.

Since cash payment is introduced, they can cancelled anytime without paying cancellation fees, this will also be inconvenient to us drivers sad.gif

No, you are wrong. Even for cash payment, the rider can still be charged cancellation fee, Uber will add RM5 the rider owed into next trip payment, basically the next driver will help Uber to collect the debt.

So only the current driver which got the trip cancelled by Uber gets nothing?

Uber will pay the cancellation fee to the driver first on behalf of the rider.
The next driver basically just work as a free debt collector for Uber.

You cannot run away from debt. The passenger next trip, he/she/they will still need to pay for the previous cancellation fees. The next driver will be asking for the fees on behalf of Uber.

If the rider cancel within 2 minutes after requesting, he won't be charged cancellation fee.

You must reach the pickup location. Press I HAVE ARRIVED. then wait for 5 minutes. then only cancel with the option passenger no show. then only you will get the RM5 cancellation fees.

Rider cancelling and driver cancelling are different things.

What AskarPerang says is driver cancels the trip, if the rider doesn't show up in 5 min.

OTOH, if rider cancels the trip after 5 min, driver will get cancelation fee even if the he/she hasn't arrived yet.

a bit of correction. RM5 is charged to rider for cancellation.
driver gets RM3.75 (75%)

cancellation by rider is allowed up to 5mins from booking time.
even if you're 10 sec away from pick up point, as long as rider cancelled within 5 mins then no charges.

unless u have arrived at pickup point in <5mins, even if rider cancelled, they'll still be charged.

many riders don't realize the downside for driver when they choose to cancel the rides. Once, i was taken into Sg Long at 630am. I was probably 5mins away from pickup point when rider cancelled. Yes, i get RM3.75 for my effort, but it was hell trying to get out of Sg Long in the morning rush hour. Tho i was lucky to get another call (after 15mins waiting) to help me get get out of Sg Long.

Many times i have to slam the brake, or make illegal u-turn just to get to a rider only to be cancelled. Worse still if you're nicely cruising, then because of a call u had to turn into a super jam road and got cancelled once you're already stuck in traffic.

this is why i feel uber shouldn't take their share of 25% comms for cancellation. they did nothing and lose nothing while driver wasted time, petrol, even toll and other opportunities. just give the whole RM5 to driver.

From Uber

Accepting long trips

When riders use their app to select a pickup location and destination, they are able to choose any destination. However, you may occasionally receive a ride request with a destination that is farther than you wish to drive. If this happens, please cancel the trip. The rider can then request a pickup from other drivers nearby.

Additionally, please note that trips may automatically end after a few hours. You will be notified. If this happens, your rider can request a new ride if he or she would like to continue. You should receive this trip request with the option to accept. It's good practice to discuss this with your rider.

How to cancel? Are riders made to be aware drivers have the right to cancel even after them getting in the car? We can't be calling every rider and ask for destination right?

Last week had 1 ride, emo Nigerian lady. pick up from Puchong, and had few luggages. At first tot she's going airport, but after loading her luggages and stuff in the car, found out she's going to Rawang bangwall.gif
ride was 54km distance and 58min long. total payout to me RM32.79. bangwall.gif

minus petrol (thru & flow), toll (returning to civilization), i make RM17 nett and 1.5hrs wasted (thru & flow)

and this is the first time she's using Uber. a usual Grab user. i believe it is becos no grabber wanna accept her ride, that's why she had no choice but to use Uber. and she also just found out uber is SooOOooOo much cheaper than grab

a few days before that, from Sunway pyramid to Nilai cry.gif
56km & 51mins. total payout RM33 bangwall.gif
minus petrol & everything, i made RM20 nett bangwall.gif

by time i came back to civilization, its already pass rush hour. ranting.gif

a week before that, a regular rider called me, ask for ride from Sg Long to Janda Baik. i check the uber app, it says RM65 rclxub.gif
did an offline ride with that guy, and i only requested RM70 (at the end he gave me RM75). but becos of traffic, total thru & flow journey was 3hrs rclxub.gif

i think someone should start a petition to uber/grab to impose a different fares for long distance ride, at least double the usual fare. for crossing state or above 50km rides into middle of no where. there is 99% chance driver's gonna come back to start point empty. i believe all riders will understand you cant have the same fare structure for long distance trips and especially cross into other states.

e.g. a quick check using the app, from Subang to Cameron Highland is RM200 on uberX.
its 210km and 3hrs each way (non-stop), which means 420km and 6hrs total. driver receive RM150 - petrol - return toll = RM100 nett for 6 hours and 420km!!!!!! which is RM16.70 per hour and RM0.23 per km rclxub.gif

these ultra cheap fares & low driver income will make the drivers to do more job cancellation and affect the brand.
or, the drivers will make offline deal with the rider and uber loses its 25% comms. i'd rather absorb the RM5 cancellation fee than pay 25% comms to uber.

even those airport rides, without multiplier surges or boost is not worth it. nett payout RM48-petrol-return toll unless willing to wait 5-6hrs for return ride (which is even cheaper)

can experienced drivers tell me how to reject a rider when rider already in the car? what are the excuses i can give them? and how much should i ask for if rider desperate for the ride?
and btw, how to cancel a ride when i already swipe the "Start Trip" button? if not mistaken, driver can't cancel once we hit 'Start Trip'

Yes, you can cancel the trip even if you have already start trip. I have seen the cancel button, but have not utilized it before. Or you can just end trip straight away.
