well when i said mining lakes at least from the ones i heard some people do scuba dive in are not metal mine abandoned lakes but like salt mine abandoned lakes, of course its a given that any dive has its risks im just curious as to is there a law saying there are only designated dive spots.
*
I'm not aware of any law saying that there's only designated dive spots. I think any body of water is fair game for diving unless some other law precludes it (private property, marine park, archeological site, crime scene, etc).

additionally does anyone know what is the average market price for a cheap portable scuba tank air compressors? so far i have seen bauer and coltri's but if anyone owns their one can i have some feedback?
*
From what I've seen on the Australian secondary market, small compressors go for about $3000 to $5000.

Actually as a certified diver you dont need a guide, just a buddy. But it is good to get an orientation of the place first.
*
In a new environment i think it's best to be guided in person. Can be suicidal otherwise laugh.gif

In new sites in a familiar environment, guidance can be in verbal or written form. In this case you want to be prepared with some prior knowledge so that you don't go in blindly. But it's not suicidal.

think there are those cowboy type divers that will do green water diving off Port Dickson, with less than 2-3 m vis. definitely not my type of diving. rather just take a weekend off for proper dive trip
*
You might call them cowboys but hey.. they're the ones who get to dive any weekend they want with just 3 hours of driving smile.gif

Want to ask the nearest dive site from kl?
Maybe can have a day trip?

Not sure these was up or not!?

Tried performed surveillance dive around Klebang, Melaka. Vis bad, but marine life quite surprised me probably due to untouched area beside fishing. Manage to spot reef sharks. Plenty of shipwrecks, antiques and canon ball blink.gif lies beneath the bottom of the sea. Depth was around 17m only.

Tank n compressor really BYO. Alternatively, u can go nearby bomba and get it pump. However, Professional License is required.

On another hand, if u r advanced diver and above. U can actually go join a trip to dive in Melaka straits, its a LOB trip. Again, Vis is nothing great but can be fine vis. Deep dive mostly. U definitely will spots some Manta Rays, some pelagic species. But the spot is smack right in d middle of Melaka straits. Departure from Lumut. quite a heavy traffic... Trip very limited. Heads up over the Malaysia Dive Group in FB. Once awhile seen them posted such trip there.

From the surface? You can't tell until you're there. In my experience taking photos:

Brown water - completely fucked, go do something else laugh.gif

Green water - green because of shallow beach/reef. Could be good or bad viz.

Blue water - blue because of blue skies reflection, not because of clear water. Could be good or bad viz.

Dark blue/white water - overcast day. Could be good or bad viz.

wah! 71min at 60m = can GG anytime with normal gas...

Is 20min at 60m then slowly ascend as per his description... multilevel diving...

Beyond 40m should consider Tec Dive edy with diff kind of gas. Again, pls dive safe. Dive beyond the limit or your training are putting yourself in danger.

Normal air becomes toxic at 56m as PO2 limit exceed 1.6. Might get nitrogen narcosis and convulsion with the possibility of drown at any given moment. Any Tec dive which exceeds that depth requires Trimix gas with nitrox gases for decompression stops. DCI is very real if proper procedures are not adhere to.

A normal dive comp will beep like crazy from 40m onward and may lock itself if they r not set to gauge mode. You may also risk blowing ur deco stops as those dive comps do not have the required algorithm to calculate such dive profiles. A single tank with not be enough to complete a proper deco stop at that depth. Perhaps that's y the dive centre only allows 1 dive anticipating that divers will get DCI.

Ending a dive with little or no more gas in the tank is not lucky. It's negligence and improper dive planning. Gas = time for divers to look for solution to problems encountered during/after the dive. At times, it's common practice for Tec divers to continue breathing from their deco bottle even at the surface and on their way back to shore for conservatism. That extra gas u have might save u from taking a trip to the nearest camber.

Additionally if you have DAN, they will not cover any incidents of such nature and might even void your insurance if they found out about it. Make sure to dive within your training/certification limit with a proper dive centre with facilities that support such excursion. Some centres and their staffs will push the limit for some extra profit risking the life of themselves and those under their care.

Be vigilant.
