Finally did my SDI OW at Labuan.

Day 1: 2-3 hours of briefing on various important diving topics and equipment assembly.

Day 2 confined training straight away do at the sea which was just right at the door step. Shore entry all the way, but currents quite strong. Struggled to even stand straight properly sweat.gif

Day 3 continued training at Pulau Papan, about 10 minutes boat ride away from Labuan. Ended the training with an open water dive. Not much coral reef around here so didn't get to see much. Visibility was good initially but became poor as more and more sand was being kicked around. Deepest dive was 14.4 metres.

Instructor gave us one week to complete the theory questions laugh.gif

Hopefully I will pass successfully.

So you have yet to complete your theory even though you finished your open water dives? The things you did sounds quite scary. Not sure if all SDI course is as so.

Hi Evan,

Nearest to us is Langkawi, Pulau Payar bro.

The rest of the dive sites are far away like east coast.

Haha yes I'm a bit skeptical too. Have to dive more for more practice.

think there are those cowboy type divers that will do green water diving off Port Dickson, with less than 2-3 m vis. definitely not my type of diving. rather just take a weekend off for proper dive trip

There's only Lumut if you wanna do day trip. Or Port Klang. But there's no "dive center" operating there. Most of them will be thru contact or friend of friend where they have their own boats and tanks.

Nearest and worth going is Tioman and Tenggol.

out of curiosity is there any law saying you cant dive anywhere? i mean there are people who live far from the ocean and their nearest dive-able spots are like abandoned mining lakes at least in the US from what i heard.

technically you can dive anywhere as long as there is someone very experienced with the dive sites guiding you otherwise it will be close to suicidal diving blindly.

some mining lakes are poisonous, so it's very not good to dive inside it. usually heavy metals leached out, so better no try anything funny, unless trying to be the next Bruce Banner

Actually as a certified diver you dont need a guide, just a buddy. But it is good to get an orientation of the place first.

well when i said mining lakes at least from the ones i heard some people do scuba dive in are not metal mine abandoned lakes but like salt mine abandoned lakes, of course its a given that any dive has its risks im just curious as to is there a law saying there are only designated dive spots.

additionally does anyone know what is the average market price for a cheap portable scuba tank air compressors? so far i have seen bauer and coltri's but if anyone owns their one can i have some feedback?
