Anyways, i've got a HD-DVD question. Is the HD-DVD add-on for the 360 "crippled" in anyway compared to a standalone player? I'm thinking of getting one in the near future. Interested in getting Heroes Season 1.

My advise ..get the standalone...if u do have the latest receiver with hdmi input for True-HD 7.1 experience...as the add on is limited for WMA, DTS or DD 5.1 output through optical input..but if u r not an audiophile whore....it is more than sufficient enuff as all of the features is playable on the add on (beside the audio experience)....bt since u already have the 360..the add on will save u tonnes of money as the separate player cost very ExPenSivE....

Err. I dont have a True-HD panel and I would love to be an audiophile whore but since my resources are limited, I have to settle for being an audiophile slut. LOL

been ordering a lot from Amazon, touch wood, has been safe, biggest amount transacted is around RM1000.

Anyway, just got my 300 HD DVD.. now have to wait for my 360 to be resurrected. Another victim of 3rod.

I don't know about the majority of the people here, but the main reason I wanted to jump into HD movies is because I dig the high definition video. Back when I started watching DVDs, I was content just using my TV speakers. No 5.1 glory for me. As long as I can enjoy the DVD format on its highest video output (component) I am more than happy.

As for the 360 HD DVD player, the optical output is already a limitation by itself. It can only carry up to 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS. Not that I'm complaining or anything. 300 and Superman Returns are excellent reference discs even though you're only running the audio through digital optical. Besides, even if the 360 outputs up to 7.1, you'll still need an AV receiver that can decode Dolby TruHD or DTS HD.

I'm running low on HDMI inputs on my AV receiver. Only have 2, but I have 4 input sources that requires HDMI in. If I use a HDMI switch, does the AVR recognise the source differently? Anyone knows? Thanks in advance.

Damn the new Yamaha receiver at year's end will have 5 HDMI inputs and Sony's STR-DA5300ES has got 6 HDMI inputs. I need one of these!!

Yup, HDMI switch will work..but on your question "does the AVR recognise the source differently?"....do u mean on audio processing for the input sources or recognition of the input source as there wont be any problem for different audio processing but input source is still limited on what is supported by your AVR..sounds really confusing...but the important is..it works....

terra..since u r using it...how do u manage on the the different calibration requirements for your video source..as I believe there will only be 1 hdmi output to your lcd TV..do u override all of the default settings as there is normally only 1 user setting available for every video input source....

the A2 at $299 has a 2 channel analogue audio, 1 optical out and 1 HDMI out. If you want lossless track but dun have HDMI receiver, you can either fork $499 (5.1 analogue out) for the A35 or upgrade ur receiver to a HDMI one
