What's the point of nitpicking at the worst aspect of a movie?

At the end of the day, HD-DVD are superior to normal DVD. Period.
*
Aye. Couldn't agree more.

While we're on the topic of HD-DVD, the Tosh HD-DVD players are starting to make their appearance here in this part of the world.

Arj, any models have popped up in Malaysia? Here in Hong Kong, Toshiba just launched their E1 model, retailing at HK$3,980. The XE1 should be here soon too.

HD market here still small, even though HDTV sets are flying off the shelf.

Anyone bought Matrix yet?
*
It won't be small once prices starts falling with critical mass. Question is when. If the price is right the market is there. Recent example being LCD TVs when cost of panels bottomed out. Ppl are now talking about US$199 no-brand made-in-china standalone players. Of course, then there's the cost of the movies themselves. That one is trickier since the movie studios have a say.

Ordered Ultimate Matrix. Arriving soon.

Yep. Top Gun should be awesome on HD, esp the dog-fight scenes. Top Gun on my radar, along with 300 and Planet Earth.

I managed to get my pre-order in on 1 July 07. They've also sent me an email confirmation of it. Ordered it with Planet Earth.

On other news, Toshiba's standalone players have dropped price. Entry level now at US$299, which is on par with higher end DVD players. We're getting there boys ..... $199 would be a sweet price point. tongue.gif

BusinessWeek reported that the HD DVD version of "300" will allow users to re-edit the movie, selecting and ordering the scenes as they see fit, and upload their edit to a server hosted by the studio, Warner Bros. The edit will be accessible to other users, who can download it to their players and see the movie in its new form.

300 is now at the top of amazon's hd-dvd and blu-ray charts, overtaking Planet Earth which has long held the no. 1 spot. and it's a good 3 weeks before the pre-order ships. good stuff.

@ arj - u can add items to your order as long as it hasn't been shipped by amazon (as with this order).

U guys can always hook up with a mail forwarding service provider in the US (not PO Box mind you) and get all the stuff forwarded to MY. If cost-sharing, may be feasible. e.g. http://www.usabox.com/

The entry-level Toshiba HD-E1 (Asian/UK voltage) retails for about US$500 in Hong Kong sadly. I hear their prices will be slashed soon. The prices quoted from UK online retailers is not much better as well.

U can get the American version HD-A2 for about US$250-299 excluding shipping cost.

Or u can wait till the 3rd-gen versions are released in Oct 07.

In Malaysia, as far as I know, there's no official products, so have to bring in grey.

I wonder if SG carries any official Tosh players .....

rx330 - swim over and find out for us la! tongue.gif

If net net RM1,600, I might as well get it here in HK. I've seen people carrying it out at HK airport! Hahaha ....

Oh, and if getting the HD-A2, don't forget the cost of stepdown convertor for the US voltage.

I'm running low on HDMI inputs on my AV receiver. Only have 2, but I have 4 input sources that requires HDMI in. If I use a HDMI switch, does the AVR recognise the source differently? Anyone knows? Thanks in advance.

Damn the new Yamaha receiver at year's end will have 5 HDMI inputs and Sony's STR-DA5300ES has got 6 HDMI inputs. I need one of these!!

QUOTE(silencer @ Aug 16 2007, 07:11 PM)
Yup, HDMI switch will work..but on your question "does the AVR recognise the source differently?"....do u mean on audio processing for the input sources or  recognition of the input source as there wont be any problem for different audio processing but input source is still limited on what is supported by your AVR..sounds really confusing...but the important is..it works....

Yo bro. Thanks for the reply. Sorry been busy lately la ... no time to sembang sembang at LYN. Yea I meant whether the AVR would detect the audio source correctly if it was routed through a HDMI switcher.

Also, because I use a universal controller, I need the AVR to know e.g. that this HDMI signal comes from the DVD player and that HDMI signal comes from my cable TV. Otherwise, the universal controller won't switch to the corrent AVR input source. Hmmmm my system complicated la. Celaka betul.

QUOTE
terra..since u r using it...how do u manage on the the different calibration requirements for your video source..as I believe there will only be 1 hdmi output to your lcd TV..do u override all of the default settings as there is normally only 1 user setting available for every video input source....
*
I tak main calibration. Yea I guess if we calibrated our TV to be "perfect" (e.g. use those calibration tools), then no need to re-calibrate for different sources right? Or I misunderstood u? blush.gif

was just wondering, have anyone bought a stand alone hd-dvd player from amazon? can we?

and have anyone bought the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player from amazon? is it better to get it from there? wonder can this work with an Asian console?
*
amazon doesn't ship hd-dvd players outside US. read the terms at amazon. also, you'd have problems with US voltage as I don't believe the SKU is universal voltage adapter.

So far, my fav is Matrix Trilogy & Planet Earth. And King Kong for the dinosaur chase scene.

The projected MSRP for the Venturer HD DVD player is aprox US$350.
My personal opinion, US$350 won't fly when you can get a Tosh unit for lesser. Will take time for market acceptance of the Venturer branding viz-a-viz build quality, PQ, AQ, firmware support, reliability, and form factor.
