I am planning to go to Takayama and my tours all depart from there. I booked a morning tour (to see during the day) and also the light up tour (from another company that got permits so i get to see at night). Try reserving as much as you can early on, even your bus/train out of Takayama. Apparently most of the transports day after light up get snapped up quickly. This part of the trip the logistics were a nightmare to prepare.  My trip is 2 weeks after yours hehe.

do you mind to share with me the light up tour from Takayama? tongue.gif

i am planning to go from Osaka directly to Takayama via Gifu and reach before 2pm as i saw one day tour depart from Takayama station at 230pm.. haha issit too rush? hmm.gif

cos i only spend 2d1n at shirakawago/takayama... how many days u plan to spend at Takayama?

Just came back from Tokyo.

Very enjoyable trip especially Hakone.

Don't really like Central Tokyo, over crowded.

Morning rush is no joke in Tokyo, literally sardine can on train.

ADD: Japanese girls are pretty.

I been pack like sardin for 20 Years

BTW, Japanese pretty girl all make up one, and never know what they thinking. Even I facing them 20 years still dunno.

I joined their newsletter. They emailed this the other day http://www.nippon-lo.com/announcement-shir...ght-event-2018/ There shows the options for accommodations, driving in, bus tours. The first tour still available i think http://www.yokoso-japan.jp/en/feature15.html but in my opinion its expensive. But there are 2 other options (which I think may be cheaper). If you can reserve the yokoso one first and get the other ones I think its free cancellation for the first one so long as early enough. So try secure those. Good luck. biggrin.gif I am staying 2 nights in Takayama though theres also the hida folk village light up and takayama seems highly rated to go. So I thought i'd stay over.

Yea the travelling is tough too... it takes about 5hours to get there.. but issit worth it?
i am going during winter but trying hard to book the tour and accomodation..

did you went to Takayama or Kanazawa?

2 days 1 night Takayama and ShirakawaGo is do-able but very rushed, I doubt you'll get to enjoy. And you'd better check what time is the last bus leaving from ShirakawaGo. Bus is scarce and service ends early. If you missed it, be sure to sleep in the snow or the bus stop laugh.gif All the Gassho Zukuri (guest house) are definitely fully booked.

Note that ShirakawaGo is open for tourists (those not staying INSIDE the gassho zukuri), from 10am-4pm (or maybe 6pm, i forgot - but either way it gets dark at 4+ so no point staying any longer). Plan your time.

That will be via the viewing point. It's not really inside the villages. Just take a bus to the viewing point area.
You have to check where is it, and what time the last bus leaves or else you won't make it to catch the bus.

I'm going to Tokyo 29 Dec - 5 Jan.

I just checked the tsukiji market calendar, Seems like the market is closed from 31 Dec to 4 Jan.

My flight arriving 10:30pm at HND, I was wondering should I just go straight to tsukiji market.

What you plan to do there so late at night? Nothing much to see as all shops will be close. Dont forget it will be freaking cold as well.
Only thing you can do is just line up to get a pass for the auction. If not mistaken you can start getting the pass at 4am (my guess).

Yeah getting the pass or queue for sushi dai.

Not sure after checking out from the immigration what time will it be.

Or probably I should just skip it and visit it next time when it's not winter haha.

I would not suggest to head over to the market once your flight lands, go check out the bars and have some yakitori! Warm food during winter - delicious.

Depends where do you stay for the night or you did not get any hotel booked? Shibuya and Shinjuku have lots of yakitori/izakaya that opens till quite late. Or you can think of spending a night in an onsen like Heiwajima (http://www.heiwajima-onsen.jp/en/index.html). I was there last week as I arrived at 4am in the morning. Free shuttle bus and I managed to catch some sleep as well.
