Hi Guys,

Anyone used the Hokuriku Takayama pass before? From the routes mentioned here http://touristpass.jp/en/takayama_hokuriku/ it says I can use it from Osaka to Kanazawa to toyama to takayama. I checked with Hyperdia this is possible now but for my trip in January it does not seem like Hyperdia plans for me to use this route at all and at toyama it will go to some other 2 stations then takayama (and takes waay longer). So I am not sure its because of winter, I havent found anywhere that says the route is closed for winter. Anyone have any idea or experience with this?

What my tour agent did was to arrange and stop at kanazawa station from there go with the Japan tour to heritage site shirakawago and takayama using bus. Day tour is RM470 per person.
*
I see. Ok. I am staying 2 nights in Takayama then doing day trip to Shirakawa. I was wondering if I can use pass from Toyama to Takayama as I heard the views are nice compared to bus. But the bus from Kanazawa to Takayama might be faster.

Found klook.com while searching for discounted ticket or pass. Anyone has good/bad experience with it?
*
Used it for my trip in HK. But then for Japan since my flight reaches around 945pm and counter closes at 10pm I cant use most of the services. Only thing i can is USJ tickets.

I think should be fine if we have printed ticket or collect during counter open? Will give it a try then for my upcoming trip. biggrin.gif
*
Yeah just check terms. Be careful what you need ie printed or not and then when it can be done. I asked them what happens if I arrive after and 3 times I asked separately all couldnt give me answer. But when the system works it works well. smile.gif

i'll be flying to japan next march, from Kuantan to KLIA. Do u think its possible to catch the flight back to Kuantan from KLIA?

flight from Haneda will land at KLIA on 6 am in the morning, and the flight to Kuantan is on the 9.25 am morning.
*
So long as no delays should be ok. Though now school holidays checking in might be difficult. But ask if you can arrange for your baggage to be directly connected to your flight to Kuantan might work. Not sure if you have to exit international terminal and get into domestic or just use the connecting pathway which means your bags are connected.

I have a question. Tried to google it but not really getting the answer. In Kyoto its recommended to use the bus pass but for places like arashiyama i read you have to add on. Does this mean I use bus pass + add on and for add on can I use the Icoca card or I cant use any and have to pay by cash?

I just gt bck from japan! What bus pass are u talking about? laugh.gif
*
The kyoto bus pass. Its 500yen but then its unlimited rides within central. https://www.insidekyoto.com/special-kyoto-b...n-subway-passes says to pay extra amount so I am not sure if its cash or i can use the touch and go card. Or entirely I cant use pass and have to pay cash entirely.

Hi guys, I will be travelling there this coming end of Dec.

I will first be around in Tokyo for few days.

Day 1-2 : Tokyo
Day 3-4 : Nagano
Day 5-6 : Kyoto
Day 7 : Osaka
Day 8 : Kobe

As you seen above, I will be travelling outside Tokyo for a week. Some suggested me to get JR pass which I LOL'ed when looking at the price which is RM1K plus.

My question is, is it necessary to buy the JR pass in order to get to those places?
*
Depends on how you wana get to all those places. With that pass your method of transport is fixed for train and you can take the shinkansen if I am not wrong which can be quite pricey.

if you only purchase bus pass and you plan to go to certain destination that need to ride a subway.. then you need to additional pay because the bus pass doesn't cover subway unless you purchase bus + subway pass. else you can just use your ic card for the additional fare. if you don't have any ic card, then pay cash
*
Yeah its for bus only. Because the pass is unlimited for central Kyoto only and does not cover to arashiyama. So means I can use the pass and top up whatever amount thats extra if I am heading to arashiyama?

you can still use the bus pass for traveling within the pass covered area in Kyoto and for those non coverage area, you may use your ic card/one way subway ticket to pay. the one day bus pass will be pay off only if you travel at least 3 rides or more. actually there are a few routes to arashiyama.. but for easier access, it's better to take the train
*
Ok. Mayb can consider that.

QUOTE(chinti @ Nov 18 2017, 11:58 AM)
There r busses until arashiyama so dun worry, u won't need to top up anything. Just Google map the bus route n change accordingly.

The only time I use subway in Kyoto is to go fushimi Inari. Rest of the places I just use the unlimited bus pass.

Edit: I just Google map check n from Kyoto station bus stop u can take  嵐山本線 bus straight to arashiyama. It's about 20+ stops
*
So were there any additional payments for out of sentral kyoto? Did you use pass with money or just pay money?

But both pass is for 5 days which imho your itinerary doesn't fully utilize the pass. why don't you focus either one? just my 2 cents but it's up your preferences  smile.gif
*
The Kansai Hiroshima is for first 5 days and the last 5 days is covered by the Takayama Hokuriku Pass which covers all of the trip there. Thats based on my discussion with HIS and JTB.

yes i know it's covered. what i mean is that your day first 5 days is mostly in Kyoto/Osaka based on your itinerary which use less Jr lines. same as the last 5 days.. as you did take up tour on day 9 which transportation already covered.. just my views but anyway that is your trip.. decision is on yours  smile.gif
*
Yeah true. Just need to calculate my costs for the first pass and see if it covers. The train to Hiroshima is expensive I guess might cover with that and can use it for train to Kyoto from airport I guess?..

you can use hyperdia to calculate your cost. yes the train to hiroshima itself is expensive. so if you have round trip, it's already pay off. kansai hiroshima area pass can't be use on shinkansen from kyoto to osaka or vice versa but you can use it on jr conventional train line. you mentioned that your arrival time is 9.45pm so i'm not sure whether you wanna activate your pass on that day itself or not.
*
Yup2 considering that. But since if I dont use it the subsequent date is USJ which i dont think i can utilize the cards too so may not have any difference. haha I am more worried i screw up usage of passes.

that's why you need to plan your itinerary properly beforehand.. else USJ you can put it on your day 10? or as i mentioned go for either one. because if you didn't utilize the pass, it's kind of wasted. for eg. kansai hiroshima area pass, beside going to hiroshima/miyajima, there are still others places that worth to visit. such as himeji, nara, uji, kurashiki, wakayama, tottori, okayama, okunoshima, etc
*
Nah. Cant really put on day 10. The ride back to Osaka will reach around 6pm. But Hiroshima and back is worth it already I think. Seems pretty packed as it is already.

hi all sifus,
i am going to Osaka in Mid January, below is my rough itinerary-- appreciate your kind advice to improve:

Day 1 - KIX directly to Kyoto (follow the mini 2 trip pinned on the thread)
Day 2 - Kyoto (follow the mini 2 trip pinned on the thread)
Day 3 - Kyto to Osaka (namba)
Day 4 - Osaka around namba for some shopping
Day 5 - Osaka castle
Day 6 - Osaka to Shirakawago (will buy the Takayama Hokuriku Area Pass) - stay at Takayama
Day 7 - Takayama back to Osaka and fly back Msia..

Issit doable? or too greedy XD

i really want to go to Shirakawago for the 21st Jan lit up event!

Appreciate your adviceeee... thanks!
*
The shirakawago is going to be difficult unless you can book your bus/tour etc now. They restrict number of people so unless you have those tours with permits its going to be tough. I tried booking the accomodation since August but also full.. lol. But you can still go see during the day. Try it out.

I managed to get a booking for two weeks after that. Eurgh..

Yea the travelling is tough too... it takes about 5hours to get there.. but issit worth it?
i am going during winter but trying hard to book the tour and accomodation..

did you went to Takayama or Kanazawa?
*
I am planning to go to Takayama and my tours all depart from there. I booked a morning tour (to see during the day) and also the light up tour (from another company that got permits so i get to see at night). Try reserving as much as you can early on, even your bus/train out of Takayama. Apparently most of the transports day after light up get snapped up quickly. This part of the trip the logistics were a nightmare to prepare. My trip is 2 weeks after yours hehe.
