QUOTE(yeeck @ Mar 2 2018, 04:41 PM)
There is only one God creator of all whether Christian or otherwise.

However, "for all the gods of the Gentiles are devils" - Ps 96:5. The Islamic teaching that rejects the Trinity and Jesus as the Second Person of the Trinity would be false, thus in that sense they would not be worshipping the same God as we do.

Similarly, for Protestants to deny that Jesus said the consecrated bread and wine is truly His Body and His Blood would mean they worship a different Jesus from us. rolleyes.gif

Did you know that Islam was considered a Christian heresy of the 7th century back then?
*
One thing I find a little bit funny though. How is it possible that Islam actually have the same prophets as those described in the Bible. Did Muhammad actually have a special revelation? How is it that Mary is also being described as special in the Koran. Why is it that Islam seem to have this special hatred for Christians and Jews. I think we can safely say that Islam is a religion that "originated" in mecca right? How come all of the prophets seem to be from the bible. I mean there are no important people over there? It's actually quite interesting that even though the prophets are Jewish Islam seem to have a special hatred for the Jew's. Heard rumours that Muhammad wife was a Catholic.

You really should not dismiss Muslims as heretics. They could actually be your brothers.

Sorry I imagine too much. Muhammad probably stayed in the Jewish area for sometime. He really thinks he has special revelation even though his religion is Arabic and the prophets are Jewish. Muhammad did have special revelation. He managed to write a book using Old Testament prophets based on his revelation. Seems that they have a similar eschatology as well with Christianity. But Muhammad actually thought this out from his own right? So similar to Christianity and Old Testament and yet wants to kill the jews and Christians. Sorry I think too much. Must apologize.

You know Protestants believed in Sola Scriptura while Catholics believed in Magisterium, again man-made traditions. You think God does not know when a saved person do works that pleased Him? hmm.gif

Some of the controversial Catholic teachings is not in the Scripture, now I remember indulgences! Was it very popular back in the 16th century? lol. People buy indulgences to reduce their penance. Back then the Catholic church sells "good works" as a form of indulgences. Plus purgatory was invented by Pope Gregory the Great, who was influenced by Greek beliefs in limbo. lol. Another man-made tradition which has no origin in the Bible.

Ok if Catholics believed in God forgiving our sins then why is the need for purgatory? I see it as holy men wanting to self atone themselves through acts of merits.

Why do you think Martin Luther came up with the 95 Theses?

Catholics take Eucharist meaning literally and require a priest to perform the ritual act of transforming the bread into the body of Christ. Protestants communion is more of symbolic in nature remembering the Last Supper. We don't require a priest for this practice, as long as he is an ordained clergy member of a church.

Well the Bible certainly did not forbid eating meat on any days. This is the ONLY GOOD THING about Catholics which I liked. More meat for others to enjoy! thumbsup.gif

Nobody mentioned about whether Paul and Jesus should marry or not, don't forget they are not wealthy either. So what's your point actually? They have missions on earth of far more importance than marriage and wealth.

When you bring up celibacy is more superior, no wonder the Catholic priests committed sins. Why would a Church forbid its priests from marrying? Those poor men.

Chicken and duck yeeck. This topic will never end. lol.

P/S: Let me research more on purgatory and penance yeeck since its your favourite topic. Give me few days because I'm having party over the weekend. lol

He does has many controversial view points which he defends using the bible and I actually agree but it will be difficult to digest. Commenting on his views here will make me public enemy no 1. I am already hated here anyways. But then most people will not be able to accept this.

Anyways.

He was from Medina/Madinah, and the region had a lot of ex-Jewish tribes - the various Bani something or other.

They are presented as Jews to Muslims* but the Jews of course do not acknowledge their inclusion in the 12 tribes. I believe some historians say they are descendants of Canaanites who had copied some Jewish practices

Remember that by this time the Jewish temple had been destroyed (a few times), the Jews scattered, and early Christianity was on the rise. Things were confused.

*P.s. this could be part of the source of longstanding disagreement between the Muslims and the Jews...

>> Correct, Sola Scriptura is man-made! icon_idea.gif

>> As I've said before, as long as there is belief for prayers for the dead, then purgatory is a logical conclusion. And the early Christians long way before Pope Gregory the Great believed in prayers for the dead. Heck, even the Jews believed in prayers for the dead.

I have posted many times before on your baseless claims regarding Purgatory and indulgences. Guess I have to repeat again.

Ok if Catholics believed in God forgiving our sins then why is the need for purgatory? I see it as holy men wanting to self atone themselves through acts of merits.

>> Err, because forgiveness and penance are different things? God forgave David but David still had to suffer the loss of his son as well as other temporal punishments. If Christ gave his ministers the ability to forgive the eternal penalty of sin, how much more would they be able to remit the temporal penalties of sin! Christ also promised his Church the power to bind and loose on earth, saying, "Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven"

Why do you think Martin Luther came up with the 95 Theses?

>>I answered this before. He had some valid concerns regarding abuses on indulgences, but he went overboard to deny almost every Church doctrine. Just because there are abuses, doesn't mean the doctrine itself is wrong.

Catholics take Eucharist meaning literally and require a priest to perform the ritual act of transforming the bread into the body of Christ. Protestants communion is more of symbolic in nature remembering the Last Supper. We don't require a priest for this practice, as long as he is an ordained clergy member of a church.

>>Christ must be wasting his time asking his apostles to repeat it if it is merely a symbol. St Paul would be a fool for warning believers if they eat and drink the Body and Blood of Christ unworthily if it is merely a symbol. "Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord." Strong words, my friend!

Well the Bible certainly did not forbid eating meat on any days. This is the ONLY GOOD THING about Catholics which I liked. More meat for others to enjoy! thumbsup.gif
>>Neither does the Church forbade meat EVERYDAY for believers, unlike some other Oriental religions. We do it only on certain days to honour Our Lord's Passion.

Nobody mentioned about whether Paul and Jesus should marry or not, don't forget they are not wealthy either. So what's your point actually? They have missions on earth of far more importance than marriage and wealth.
>>Obviously you missed the gist of my argument, oh vey.

When you bring up celibacy is more superior, no wonder the Catholic priests committed sins. Why would a Church forbid its priests from marrying? Those poor men.
>> I didn't say that, it was St Paul who said the celibate state is more superior, but not everybody is called to it. If they cannot be celibate, they are better off getting married.

I think you know what I mean. Seriously. If you are this ignorant, I feel much more sorry for you then before. Maybe instead of preaching your traditions so much, you should actually be more open minded. And I am sure Tina actually knows what I am implying. Anyways if you still cannot figure out well, Jesus did mentioned why He spoke in parables.

One thing I got to admit though. The mind control techniques used in Catholicism is really too notch.

You see yeeck. I have already given clues to you and you still cannot get it.

You see yeeck. I do not need to know everything about Islam to see a connection. But then if after giving you clues you still cannot get it then well maybe I should not explain further.

At this point if you cannot even get what I mean, explaining myself will only make me a fool right?
Matthew 7:6.

OK la. I will give you more pearls since I am a fool. Catholics do not like jews and other Christian sects as well right? Coincidence? If you still cannot get it, Well let's just say this information is not really meant for you to know. I mean I already did so much of the thinking and gave you a big clue and you still do not get it?

If you really call yourself a Christian, maybe you should look at the bible more instead of undermining the bible with your traditions. But then Christianity is just only a label for Catholics that's all.

To answer your question that Islam and me are coreligionist
Matthew 12:25-26

Actually that verse also applies to you and me.

Forget it then.

Asking atheist to believe in christ is damn more difficult to ask a Buddhist to believe in christ..

They will ask all kinds of difficult or funny questions that even some Christians finding it hard to answer.

During CNY, we chat for 4 hours among our friends which also includes a bunch of atheist and my Christian friends all look clueless..

True story. Not easy to deal with atheist.

From a Christian pov eh

Interesting. I was reading something similar just last night - but more from secular and historical pov. The early expansion of Islam was conquest based, no doubt about that.

And my original comment is wrong. By year 600 when Islam appeared, the Holy Roman Empire had been effectively destroyed. Under those circumstances, no wonder the Islam founders were exposed to all kinds of heresies masquerading as "Christianity".

The wrath of God is truly terrible. All the more we should keep this in mind when looking at the Church's current practices.
